J. Fresh's bottom 5 in his projected standings for 2022-2023:

1. Arizona
2. Chicago
3. Montreal
3. Philadelphia
5. Anaheim

Montreal and Philadelphia are tied at 71 pts. That would actually be a 16 pt improvement for Montreal, as they only finished with 55 pts last season.
Lets trade for Philly's pick...

Is it me underrating next year draft or only the top 4 is insane and then it drops significantly?

You're underrating.

Connor Bedard
Matvei Michkov
Adam Fantilli
Dalibor Dvorsky
Braden Yager
Leo Carlsson
Zach Benson
Kasper Haltunnen
Charlie Stramel
Theo Lindstein
Riley Heidt
Calum Ritchie
Matthew Wood

It's legitimately just stacked.

Bedard, Michkov, Fantilli, Dvorsky yes. Legit top talent. All would have gone 1st overall this year.

But are Yager, Benson, Stramel any better than this year Savoie, Kemell, Cooley? They seem pretty much the same level to me.

Yager absolutely.
34 goals in 63 games.. in the WHL.. in his D-1 year.

Zachary Benson had 63 pts in 58 games in the WHL.. in his D-1 year. You know what he did after that? 23 pts in 15 playoff games.

Stramel is big bodied and skilled, in a 3rd/4th line role he had really good production. So yeah he's better than Savoie and Kemell, probably not Cooley but he's got a lot of size and jam.

Carlsson is, I'm pretty sure. The rest have the potential to be, we'll see what kind of jumps we see from their D-1 seasons, but there's a lot of really high potential guys.

The WHL is a pretty tough league for D-1 kids and a lot of those WHL kids really went hard.

WHL has an insane crop this year, best I've seen in a long, long, long time.

Yager, Benson are much better than Savoie, Kemell, Cooley, not even a comparison. Yager and Benson are better than Wright/Slaf.

The worst part about scouting Yager will be listening to that cringe AF Warriors commentator.

Yager SCORRRRREESSSSS

Love the enthusiasm, but lord jesus this is a matinee game against Swift Current in February, not Stanley Cup Final Game 7 overtime, you need to dial it back a couple notches.

I don’t think people realize that having St-Louis as a coach since the start of the year , 20-30 games from Price and 40-50 from Allen , caufield producing as a 35-40 goals scorers , Guhle-Harris eating big minutes , slaf producing 60 points , Suzuki improving , veterans like Dvo-Andy- Drouin over producing could actually end our chances of finishing bottom 5.

Let’s say the team have lot of chemistry and is well coached I think we will not finish top bottom 5 sorry to say that but it’s the truth our kids will improve this year and everyone will be better we just need 2 nhl caliber goalies.

To finish bottom 5 it means our rookies will suck and I don’t want that.

This draft has the potential to be 2003 good.
So many great players drafted in the first round outside the top 10 in 2003. Truly remarkable draft, but no generational talent. You didn't need to finish near the bottom of the standings in 2003, you just needed good scouting and development teams.

2023 has potentially generational talent. If it also has the depth of talent that we saw in 2003, then this could go down as the best draft in history. With two picks next year added to our current young core we could transform this franchise, if we have good scouting and development teams. Development looks to be in good hands with Adam Nicholas. Let's hope scouting is also in good hands.

By the end of the 2024 season we should have a pretty good read on the team's trajectory and the capabilities of the HuGo tandem. Still shaking my head at the idiots calling for their heads already.

The collective D will be poor, and thus will have a hard time scoring more than we get scored on.

I'd trade all of our rookies + Caufield for Connor Bedard.

The title of the Grestest Russian not to play in the NHL, IMHO, should go to Valeri Kharlomov, the player Bobby Clarke took out with a vicious slash in the ‘72 Summit Series.
I stand corrected. I re-read my post and just noticed that I inserted to wrong name. Thanks! Valeri Kharlomov was the one that died in a car accident if I remember correctly? I don’t know why I’m confusing them…I was very young at that time and I remember him.

Yeah, what could have been. Kharlamov died in a car accident as you stated but even more tragically, he died young.

That's best case scenario for the players but as we all know best case scenario rarely happens all at once. No matter how good a few players are, if you aren't solidly constructed throughout the lineup, you'll fail. We all know hockey is a game of mistakes, and those mistakes get heightened with having bottom feeders throughout the lineup. I honestly don't expect price to play this year. There's no reason for him to, especially if he wants to stay with the Habs long term. Allen will probably be traded. But anyways, Habs under MSL we're doing great until TDL. That's when the holes emerged and they had to lean heavily on players that weren't ready. The same will probably happen this year. Habs don't have DD this year to give them a head start on the tank but I expect the team to finish near the bottom. If you best case scenario every team in the NHL, Habs still aren't competitive
