Passing on Michkov is the far bigger story of the day for me.

Yeah, that was a bit of a head scratcher. Not a knock on Reinbacher but with Michkov sitting there I don’t know how you pass on him.

I know you follow international hockey closely like myself so you’ve had a decent number of viewings of Michkov and he always has looked like a sure firer NHLer.

His numbers in the KHL are outstanding as well to finish the year.

I saw that kid just take the bull by the horns in a game against sweden russia was trailing in at the cancelled WJC, i mean..............he took things over and got Russia right back in the game, he was just 16.

It was impressive man, I can't see how we passed on him, but we aren't alone there, he wasn't even the first Russian taken!!

I dunno, some teams may be really kicking themselves in a few years.

Dragicevic was even less surprising. He does have decent size, but huge boom or bust.

Surprised the Ducks didn’t choose Fantelli. Fantelli and Zegras would be a nice 1-2 punch for many years. They must be super high on Carlsson.

Zegras,McTavish and Carlsson are a great young 1-2-3 punch! Probably the best young centre 1-2-3 punch for many years to come

The draft coverage on ESPN is cringe. They said the 21st pick “free falled”. People have “turned on” the 24th pick. They said one kid maybe “is what he is” because he has a beard. The coverage team has zero tact and seems to think anyone that anyone that isn’t a top 10 pick kinda sucks, without realizing that going in the first round makes a player a really good prospect lol.

How he fits: Getting a center was a priority for the Ducks, who had a number of options. They surprised a number of people by taking Leo Carlsson. The 6-foot-3 center showcased his skills across all levels in 2022-23 by playing for Orebro in the SHL, the highest division of Swedish hockey and when he represented Sweden in various international competitions. I'm pretty sure Hawks fans are not thinking the playoffs are a possibility next season - probably not even the season after that. The new core group isn't even identified yet - much less in place and playing well together.

The prospect pool was already top-10 and after the draft finishes up tomorrow they will probably be top-3 / top-5. But - most of those prospects are 1 or 2 or 3 years away.
