The NFL draft is helped tremendously by the fact that the general public actively watches the league that the players are being drafted from. People know lots of the college players that are being taken. The NHL draft is mostly random people no one has ever heard of from a league they have never watched.

On average I find their prospects to be the safest, you tend not to get all that many outright busts from their top guys........................you usually at least get a serviceable player.

It's also nice they allow teams to make picks directly. It always looks weird for the NBA and NFL to have their commissioners just announce them all.
