It’s cool to see four BC boys picked so far in the first round (Bedard, Benson, Wood, Moldendyk). Could be five If Cristall gets picked still.

What are they doing differently? I've watched a couple and they look fundamentally more or less the same to me. More people care about them and the production is better definitely but it's still mostly old guys talking into a microphone.

Well yeah, this draft is atypical for that. Usually there are at least 4 or 5 trades in the first round. Maybe it speaks to how strong this draft class is that we haven't seen any yet.

The NHL is just playing from behind in that regard. The NFL is bringing in old players and celebrities attached to teams that are known not just among football fans, but among sports fans and the general public. People tune in just to see those celebrities and legends and only care about maybe 5 minutes of the actual draft.

There are only a handful of former NHL players who the average person would recognize. This is the product of many years of dropping the eight-ball when it comes to marketing and now there is no real fix.

There's more trades then this one. I remember this last year's NFL draft being very entertaining because there were a flurry of trades.

Not too surprisingly overall, but the theme of this draft was more certainty over upside.

The NFL draft is helped tremendously by the fact that the general public actively watches the league that the players are being drafted from. People know lots of the college players that are being taken. The NHL draft is mostly random people no one has ever heard of from a league they have never watched.

Pittsburghish
Chayka and Weekes trying to talk about a player they've clearly not watched. Chayka just vomiting random data points.
She is so bad. Just reading a script that may or, most likely, may not have been written by her.

Add that to Kaplan who is the most awkward interviewer of all time and you have the level of NHL draft coverage you would expect from ESPN
