For those of you really in tune with this crop.. who in the 8-20 range stands out with skating, strength and compete

I have watched a little bit of some of these guys lately outside of the top 4... and i have been underwhelmed

We just need to ensure we pick a pick that projects as a solid pro then develop

I dont want skill ceiling shit with flaws

The player I'm most interested watching at the U18s is Dalibor Dvorsky who ticks a lot of boxes as a big, talented C with a quality two-way reputation and a wicked shot. Consolidated ranking is currently at #10.

According to my calculations if the Canucks reel in the Wings and Blues in their last 10 'garbage-time' games, there's a good chance they fall out of the top-10 in the draft.

They may think they're playing 'meaningful games' in March, but all they're really doing is sliding inexorably down the draft board.

3 points back of 13th overall. 9 games to go.

Dvorsky has huge skating issues, I would stay away

Skating is one of my necessities

Getting locked into one trait as a necessity is how you make bad decisions and take Steve Kelly over Shane Doan.

Teenage Sedins were bad skaters. The best skater in the top end of that draft was Jamie Lundmark.

You have to look at the whole picture and if a player has size/compete level/elite skill that usually wins out over a lesser talent who is really fast.

Agree with the sentiment that Bedard Fantilli Carlsson Michkov Smith Benson and Reinbacher will be off the board by 10 or 11.

In our range i really like Oliver Moore or Brayden Yager the most and would be thrilled with a excellent top6 C prospect that can fly and play both ends of the ice

Dvorsky Danielson and Barlow should be good NHLers just not as sold on the scoring upside for Dvorsky and Danielson but do like the 2 way acumen.

Barlow being a winger has me a little less excited given available C's. Something that is really tempting is his net front presence and maturity which should translate pretty quickly to a NHLer. His shot comes off fast and heavy as well he will score goals

i'm really intrigued with Lukas Dragicevic also. Im hoping to get to watch him at the U18 with fast competition and reads to see how he handles his own zone positionally and in moving pucks quickly and decisively up ice. Might be a bit of a reach but his puck moving position size and strength are hard to ignore as well as how quickly he's advanced as a defenseman and his love for physical play. Raw but if you can clean up a few weaknesses you could get a top4 RD stud

I've basically given up on Draft Watch for this club. Let's get real. We all know they're trading the 2023 1st anyway, in a desperate attempt to add a player that'll help get them to the playoffs.

The sad state of this franchise is that 8th in the West is their Stanley Cup. They'll sacrifice anything to get there. I fully expect more draft picks going out and an OEL buyout.

Canucks with nine games remaining, and a pretty soft schedule. Could easily see them winning seven of them.....which effectively drops them out of the top-10.

They'll still get a good player because it's a deep draft.....but it won't be a kid who'll be of any help to them for at least a couple of seasons and maybe longer.

Would be nice they could re-acquire a second rounder to compensate for losing their pick to the Wings; but that seems unlikely so far.

But they do have multiple picks in the third and fourth rounds--and their track record at unearthing some gems in later rounds has been pretty good.

I dont care about fast or speed so blindly.. being a strong skater obviously isnt about those two things.

I am just bringing up what i want in a player.. i could list a whole shitload..

And corey sarich was a better skater than lundmark during that time. Lundmark was quick but clunky.. same with saprykin.. quick but choppy

Sarich was smooth

Would you make any kind of bet that they trade their 1st? Because I would take that bet.

If we want another RHD why not just take Dragicevic? Bet on skill, size and production. The skating isn't bad, just needs a better first step. He can figure the rest out. Better than Evan Bouchard defensively as a draft eligible IMO.

More I look into the Draft more I want.

Axel Sandin Pellikka

Think he'll be the best defenseman in the draft. Smooth skating puck mover who fits the exact mold the team is after. Plus he should be available wherever we pick.

I thin Hronek will work out ok, but I am still annoyed that with a tiny bit of patience we could have easily walked out of the draft with Reinbacher and Dragicevic.

Well, depends what "downhill is. I absolutely think a D-core of Hughes-Bear, 4D-Hronek, Not OEL-Not Myers can get them to the playoffs.

Is getting to the playoffs really an accomplishment? Do they have much of a chance of seriously winning the Cup? No. Is that downhill? Purely by standings points, I guess not.
Pretty much.
Its just a cycle of mediocrity over and over again
10th in the West vs 8th in the West is not much difference in team quality. Still mediocre. But the latter is Frankie Blueberries' Stanley Cup.

At the right price I would, yes.

Personally, I think they should trade the 1st. They've already chosen the direction of the club: Playoffs at any cost. Might as well lean into it. They need at least one more top-four defenseman and a high-end 3C. Use the first to get one of those.

I'd be disappointed if they didn't trade it.

No we need a few ELCs coming down the pipe especially one that can relieve Miller if he's staying and they're going for it over the next 4-5 yrs.

Lots of good Centers available......Moore Yager Dvorsky Danielson Heidt are all very good 2C prospects with a good/proper development.

I remember this same thing in 2017 when we were debating Pettersson Glass Necas (me) Vilardi (Y2k). The top end guys went and then Suzuki Norris Chytil and Thomas were the lower ceiling 2C middle 6 guys that would be incredible for our team in 3-4 yrs.

If I had things I'd use as a deal breaker it would be work ethic and smarts, if those are solid I think the rest can be developed (or worked around, I guess size can't be taught but smaller players can use smarts and hustle to compensate).

I think Simashev would be a better pick - maybe trade down and grab another 2nd?
