Crystall just got pissed at his teammate for not passing to him, Yikes.:snow:

Smashed stick multiple times on ice, loud uuuu from crowd

best player of the game has been Samuel Honzek, No clue who he is, but man he has been impressive.

Is he draft eligible?
Ya after the 1st period, Honzek played really well, and as you mentioned earlier Cristall seemed to get progressively more frustrated with his teammates.

What a finish with Honzek scoring the GWG with 0.5s left!

Watched Cristall and Honzek tonight. And i've seen them before but it's been a little while

Andrew Cristall

the good - PP specialist can manipulate lanes and put pucks into wheel houses. Has ice in his veins. Goal and assist, passing is excellent soft hands, agile and shifty with good balance, great hand eye knocks down pucks, high iQ and knows how to anticipate moves and find open spaces where pucks can filter to. Snuck in behind the D for his breakaway goal and is money on dekes

the bad - is a soft ice and half court game specialist. Dont think he took a puck off someone all night or skated through contact. Played at a 3/4 speed and with an intensity way off what it will take at the NHL level to succeed. Speed is poor when you project it and he puck watches in his half of the ice and defers to teammates to let them get him pucks. Is always the stretch pass guy in transition cheating up ice and was getting knocked around and to the ice on the boards. His body language sucked too. Dramatic head shakes and beaver tapping would be annoying for teammates

Best comparison tonight would be Sven Baertschi. Not reassuring at all. focussing on NHL tools and what he brings other than the offensive zone would make me very apprehensive in the top10

Sam Honzek

the good - Skating is powerful with good edges and quality explosive steps. Reach and range of coverage is massive. Scored 2 goals, was good in transition and showed a NHL level shot with good on puck patience

the bad - wasn't able to assert himself in the game for much of it. Plays LW not C as advertised by scouting agencies and rankings. Doesn't turn on the boards well and plays with his head down too much which will negate a lot of cycle success and transition quick strikes. Playmaking wasn't really on display in this one.

Best Comp tonight for me would be Pierre Engvall

Report is focussed on the game not an overall body of work. Playoffs hopefully brings another level as game was a bit meaningless for the standings. Can't say Honzek has impressed me enough to reach into the first round (maybe late 1st )and Cristall is polarizing. Just so little engagement without the puck and his speed is an issue as is. Creativity IQ and on puck in the offensive zone he's a special talent just not sure how he's gonna make it work.

I agree with pretty much everything.
Of the lack of intensity, especially, angry at teammates is not intensity, he has very little energy when it came to anything, except for when he had the puck.

I would not draft them in the first round, his offensive potential is worth a second rounder.

I know this is a weird comparison, but honestly, he reminded me of Kyle Wellwood.

That's not an outlier performance by Cristall. I've seen him quite a few times now, and that's generally how he plays. Outside of the stick tapping, i really didn't notice terrible body language or anything, but his strengths and weaknesses' are exactly as described above.

Almost (I said almost) makes me glad we moved the Isles pick, there's no way we should be taking him with our 1st. I'm glad a vegetable isn't making our pick this year that's for sure.

Edit- I should've said I didn't see last night's game (the body language stuff), the games i've seen him were all in Kamloops, and 1 in Kelowna. "Not sure how that's gonna work". At the nhl level, was my exact thought after every game when thinking about Cristall.

According to my calculations if the Canucks reel in the Wings and Blues in their last 10 'garbage-time' games, there's a good chance they fall out of the top-10 in the draft.

They may think they're playing 'meaningful games' in March, but all they're really doing is sliding inexorably down the draft board.

But what do you think about Garth Buthcer?

The players don’t care. The games have meaning for them

Well if the Canucks win their way out of the bottom 11 they have successfully removed all mathematical chance at Bedard and removed themselves from the lottery for #1 pick.

But good moral victories boys!

Sooooooo Canuck

I don't like his engagement or pace much either...that's where understanding personality comes in. When scouting I think it's always important to focus on what a player does well, and exactly HOW well does he do it, rather than what he doesn't do well. A player will get chances improve in problem areas as long as he is truly elite in some area, and has the work ethic to improve. Mediocre well-rounded players are much more likely to fail completely.

One scenario is that the Canucks Drafting Gurus are targeting some lower-ranked prospect, so it doesn't matter to them if they fall.

Explains this Fiasco.

I dont really see a drop off from 7-11. Itz the same group of players just you dont have a choice of your preference from that group.

Dvorsky, Danielsson, Moore, Reinbacher, Smith, Benson are the players that will still be avaliable in that group and I dont really have a peference from that group. At 7 I would consider trading down to re-aquire a second

It doesn’t matter if we fall a couple spots with the new development team in place here. The coaches we have hired along with the Sedins etc are one of the best in the league no doubt in my mind.

Anywhere from 7-12 we are going to get a player with the same talent range and if I’m a betting man I think we end up with Moore or Reinbacher. ASP is the top rated Dman to go in the draft and if we end up with him it would be a homerun as well.

The sky isn’t falling

If we end up with moore or reinbacher, nobody would be upset, but that’s not a problem, the issue is that or potentially going to be outside of that clear top 8/9.

I personally have made it a clear top 10. Changed it from a top 7 because i think 8,910 have really stood out to me. Obviously with different tiers. Players with high floors and high ceilings. After 10 I feel either you get a high floor player or high ceiling player hard to find players with both.

Bedard
Fantili
Mitchkov
Carlsson

Smith
Reinbacher
Benson

Moore
Heldt
Leonard

If we pick after 10 I would not be disappointed with Sandin Pellikka

Wild stretch though, we saw Leo Carlsson floating in front of our eyes and now we're like 10 spots down the board

For those of you really in tune with this crop.. who in the 8-20 range stands out with skating, strength and compete

I have watched a little bit of some of these guys lately outside of the top 4... and i have been underwhelmed

We just need to ensure we pick a pick that projects as a solid pro then develop

I dont want skill ceiling shit with flaws
