Idk but I'd take a RHD not just because of situational need but I get the sense the DMEN in this draft quite underrated id take either Reinbacher or Axel sandin pellikka and if the hit their potential we look a lot better than if we select a winger. Assuming they hit their potential quite quickly ala Sieder or Hughes in two years we can have

Hughes-Rienbacher/Axel Sandin Pellikka

Ufa/trade-hronek

OEL/Hirose-Bear/ufa or trade

Obviously the tough pill to swallow is OEL but in the last two years we may just bite the bullet and trade him 50% retained with a sweetner especially if Hirose shows these last few games aren't just a flash in the pan. We would be looking a lot better especially considering we would have found a long term defensive partner for Hughes.

I don't want to get ahead of myself but if we make the right moves and we get just a little lucky we could be building a strong team.

Barlow, Honzek, or Moore. Don’t want anyone else.

Otherwise trade the pick for a 21-24 y/o core player. Maybe try and grab Byram somehow lol
Yes. Get the Crosby specialists to fix him.

RHD's or d men in general are what you spend 3rd's to 7ths on.

It is too risky to spend top picks on defensman. Never again.

So after a really shitty season where the team only showed up when it was over… just like last year! We end up with a broken D man and a 10th/11th overall pick… yikes! We were positioned nicely before we tried to win games.

Another Lekkermaki here we come! Yay.

Virtanen Hodgeson Lekkermaki

Juolevi Woo

Demko

Hope we see that starting lineup next year.

Laughing at those who said that we had no chance of dropping out of the top 10. Well at least we will play .600 winning hockey next year and Hirose and McWard will be regulars and ROY candidates and Demko will win the Vezina... all because of sample size and what we accomplished at the end of the season. It will 100% continue next season because Benning and now Tocchet said so.

On Feb 18th the Canucks were 6 points out of last,
That would make them the 5th worst team now.

It's Oliver Moore time baby! If Reinbacher, or an unexpected faller are there, that would change things, but if not I'd be all over Moore at 11.

11 OA… Meh…

If someone good falls to us, great. If we can get an under 25 top pairing defenseman with it, or a great young 2C, I’m fine with that too.
Even if one is available for the pick, how do we fit him under the cap? With the 2nd for this and next draft already gone, what assets do we have to use to dump bad contracts?

I think this is the first year since... hmm... holy crap. First year since the 1999 draft that I really do not care who they end up picking.

They really need to trade the pick if it helps them win next season.

Besides a couple of teams who got lucky by getting a top 4 dman for a 3rd, it is still borderline impossible getting a top 4 dman for a 3rd. Heck we just paid a 1st and dropping two rounds to get Hronek. I'd be ecstatic getting a dman that high in the draft and if they hit their potential having a top 2-3 dman paired with Hughes for years to come is an absolute win.

No difference makers will be available where we are picking. Not saying there won't be good players or future stars after #11 but they'll probably be in the late first or second and third rounds. So if we're going to pick, I say trade down to unload salary.

Something like Boeser full cap hit + Rathbone + #11 to Chicago for #20 and grab Honzek or Simashev. Hawks have loads of cap space and Boeser gets to play close to home and I can see him rebounding nicely and then Chicago flipping him for assets.

Im actually quite curious to see how rebuilding team does this draft.
Some teams absolutely stockpiled on draft picks in this supposedly "deepest draft of the decade"

What now?

Still hoping Benson drops to us due to his size…. One can hope

If not, Im happy with either Moore/Dvorsky/Reinbacher/Barlow

Whats everyone’s thoughts on ASP if Reinbacher is picked? Smooth skating puck moving defenceman who is probably a safe bet to be a top 4 dman

Sorry. You are saying good players or future stars after #11 will probably be in the late first or second and third rounds?
