All those Playoff teams will be resting their stars/starting goalies though

We still play Hawks, Ducks, Coyotes. Thats 3 free wins.

Capitals may not win another game for the rest of the year

Red wings play Sabres, Pens, Stars, Canes, Lightning

Blues play Rangers, Wild, Stars, Stars. They may not win again either.

There is no lock yet.

Yeah tell that to Calgary.

It is an easy schedule but there are no free wins in the NHL. You'd think hardcore fans of 20+ yrs would pick up on this.

Bedard Fantilli Carlsson Michkov Smith and Benson will be gone by the time we pick and the players we should be focussing on are.

RD-David Reinbacher

LC-Oliver Moore

RC-Brayden Yager

LC-Dalibor Dvorsky

LW-Colby Barlow

LW-Quentin Musty

RW-Ryan Leonard

RC-Nate Danielson

RD-Lukas Dragicevic

blerg, just checked the sched, and we got three wins coming up. That will place us at 13th. Just outside of a shot a Bedard. Typical.

How much faith do you guys have that we will even hold onto the pick and not trade it away?
Keeping the pick makes very little sense if management is going to stick to its plan to be competing for a cup within three years. But there's no telling whether they'll do what makes sense.

Keeping the pick makes sense if the Canucks think they can get a player who will contribute within 3 years.

It takes us to 11th place and that's if the Blues and Wings fail to pick up at least 2 points in their last 4 games. We hold the tiebreaker over anyone so if we are tied with anyone we get the better draft slot.

Certainly (though it depends on how much of a "contribution"). But if that's what they're thinking, well, they're wrong. It's possible but highly unlikely that their pick will be making a contribution of the same order that a player acquired by trading the pick would.

His production in the top Swiss league is elite for a 17 year old defenseman. Albeit 15 years later, he produced at twice the rate Roman Josi did in that league when he was 17. Not sure why you would doubt he has the potential to be a top tier player.

Watch him.

Top 4, possibly. Probably even.

But my post was arguing the "All Star F 1D" label he's been given. He ranked him same tier as Michov. O_o

There seems to be a trend of players looking more developed than their peers busting, I'd be a little weary of Barlow. Also Fantilli (although that's a controversial take)
I could see that with Barlow, but with Fantilli it’s difficult to see. Even if you argue that he’s closer to his ceiling than the other top prospects, his current level of play is already pretty high.

But you could use that logic to argue Carlsson over him

At this point I think they should shop it around. It’s clear that Quinn Hughes contract window is a timeline they’re focusing on.

I don’t agree with it, but if they’re doing it then don’t half-ass it. Im guessing that they were in talks to trade their first for Kirby Dach last summer too.

This is something someone would think having no idea who Reinbacher is.

I'll wager two things:

He's not a "All Star F 1D"

I have watched more of him than 90% of this board.

But keep stat watching and drawing conclusions based off of group think instead of reality.

There's reason he's not ranked top 10 anywhere but to the ppl in this forum.

Ngl it’s pretty depressing knowing that we are about to head into this draft as a bottom tier team and dispite it being deep even our potential top 10 pick will probably be used to bring in some sort of RFA so we can “make the playoffs next year”

In purely hockey terms you are correct but the player they might acquire won’t be on an entry level deal.

Really comes down to whether they give a majority of the starts in the last weeks of the season to Demko or Delia.

With Delia, the tank is still 'real'. Look at last night's game. Canucks were up 2-0 and it looked like the Kraken--who played the night before-- were ready to fold their tents. But instead Delia gives up an absolute stinker and suddenly they're back in the game.

Three wins isn't guarantied for the Canucks. And I can't see the Wings and Caps losing out the rest of the way. Right now they have the 8th best lottery odds. I suspect that's where they'll stay.

We aren't trading our 1st and nor should we. I can't decide whether people are just so mercurial that they think it's either tank and trade everyone or else trade every pick and young player for 29 year olds (which is asinine). Or if this is just tantrums about not getting the tank. Like a child being told they can't have a 2nd piece of cake and saying, "I guess I'll just starve then since mom says I can't eat".

Trading the 17th-21st overall pick and a 2nd rounder for a 25 year old top 4 RD with lots of room to grow was a good move. This will be proven next year and we already have had a taste.

Trading the 8th-11th overall pick would be stupid and won't be happening.

I am willing to give anyone (up to 10 people) even odds. I bet $100.00 to each of you that we make our pick (or trade up or down, but we don't trade it for non pick assets), you bet that we won't. And if we do, I will be a thousand bucks richer.

As I said above, I don't know what they'll do. Their moves and even their plans seem inconsistent to me. Will they trade Miller? I think that'd be a massive mistake, if, once again, they're planning to compete for the cup by three years from now at the latest. But all the rumours suggest they're considering it.

They should move the first, given their goal. If they don't, my only explanation is it'll be because of optics—fans who just kind of think in a knee-jerk way, "you have to keep your first" will be pissed, and management won't want to take the heat.

I still wouldn't be surprised to see the pick moved on the draft floor, as soon as the Reinbacher is taken, or kept, and they make him their pick.

If they do make the pick, I'll bet you lots and lots of money that the player won't be an important contributor on a Canuck team that wins at least one playoff round within the next three seasons.

I would be happy with a big, fast and somewhat physical top 4 RHD at our draft slot, so I'll still happily take him where we are projected to pick.

He does have potential for more, and his floor seems relatively high. I'm curious why he isn't universally rated higher (ie: top 10). There are many high scoring wingers rank from 5th overall to the end of the first round, but most of them have some serious flaws/weakness and wing isn't a very valuable position. I would definitely take Reinbacher's combo of ceiling/floor over most of them (for example: Cristall/Barlow/Musty).

I really hope one of Reinbacher or Moore is available at our pick, those are my 2 most realistic targets. Michkov falling to us would also be awesome.
