There is no way we get more points than Ottawa over the next 60 games. We will be battling Arizona and Anaheim for last overall.

Arizona might even pull ahead of us considerably if we're not careful.

Remember when a quarter of this board was out on the ledge because the Hawks were "too good to tank"?

Good times. Good times.

Arizona has Chychrun and Ghostbear to trade, but I’m not sure the former gets traded at the deadline, they’re asking for the moon.

On our side, we have our entire forward core to trade. I can’t see a situation where Arizona manages to outtank us.

Idk if Anaheim will be this bad all year, but man they're terrible.

This simply isn’t true, Saad took 6m in cap the next year and the year following in which Hossa was put on LTIR, and the year in following of that seabrook lasted 38 games after that before being put down by Terry’s daft hip surgeries. Shaw too was acquired to fill out the roster despite the 2 concussions in a span of 9 months before he joined the team and retired. Then in following of course was Keith being sent out.

Over those years we also dummied lehner 5m a year despite having Crawford(who took a pay cut to play for NJ before retiring); and paid players like mattaa, smith, panik, deHaan alongside other non-impact inconsequential players 3-5m a year

I swear the whole “we could never afford panarin” is a lie/coping mechanism hawks fans tell themselves to go to sleep at night.

Edit: Also hindsight is 20/20 — the Toews and Kane deals were given like that because our genius accountant GM projected the cap to skyrocket due to the rogers TV deal. However again some genius had it written in Canadian dollars and then the deal tanked in value. That’s what made the contracts unfeasible.
McD/Rockey handled the Kane and Toews contracts. No gm gets to spend that much owner money, Bowman was too low on the food chain to make that call

Let me put it this way, keeping Panarin would have been ridiculous and a surefire way to hockey purgatory finishing 14th to 21st for several seasons. Yes, technically there were plenty of ways to pay for him, but in reality they couldn't. Chicago was locked into mediocre or suck with the roster before the trades.

They were outmatched with him and Hossa already. They were certainly outmatched without Hossa. I think they wanted to keep him if Hossa was there. The best FA forwards were Radulov, Vanek, Vrbata, Williams, Marleau and Thornton...none reliably 2 way. There wasn't a replacement out there.

Other factors
-Panarin was not good in postseason matches,
-Q was the highest paid coach in the league and loved "his" guys,
-We don't know if Rocky (still cried poor-mouth in seasons after 2010) had the stomach for another 80 million real dollars knowing how things projected a few years out (Seabrook might have given him pause)

I wanted Panarin to stay but he was never going to be part of the long term plan for what he wanted to command. They had no chance to compete for the next several years keeping him given their roster construction. Rocky/McD wasn't going to let them move the guys they committed to.

Finally, back to the draft status and the thread, nice to see some dumpster teams get some pts tonight.

Can you imagine this team without Toews, Kane, Domi and Athanasiou?

We would never win a draw or enter the offensive zone.

Looking forward to the trade deadline and seeing just this. There will be no more 4-1 leads to surrender. We will be down 1 minute into each game and play from behind. The tank will accelerate. We will be setting all sorts of records like longest time between goals for etc.

With the first Draft Pick of the 2023 entry draft, Chicago, you are on the clock.............................

Remember our motto: One Goal - It still holds true

One goal - cause we will be lucky to score 1 goal a game
or One Goal - top 2 pick in upcoming draft.

The tank is on, oh it's on.

Congrats KD...your Tankers have made it to 3rd overall pre-lotto..Thiscis not good enough though to ensure we get one ofvthe bigv3 prizes in the '23 Entry Draft...Least we could get is 5th of 2 teams behind us each woman lotto draw to move up to #1and#2 after lotto...though that isxa remote chancevonly

To best our chance for a top 3 prize we must finish deadvkast...So just 2 teanscto catch and get to that spot.

So keep on Tanking Boys!

If Fiddy is horned up for The Tank™ then no single Hawks fan shouldn't be. Keep this L-Train a'rollin'!

So an elite 1C versus a top 6er + middle of the lineup guy?

I’d think most teams take the elite 1C more times than not, regardless of what their needs are.

I’d guess the calculus only changes if you know for sure you’re getting something better than a solid top 6er with that 5-10 pick, or if you simply do not rate Fantilli as high of a prospect as everyone else does.

I have Fantilli rated at #2 just behind Bedard

For me personally there's too many variables surrounding Michkov. That's why I'm not mad at all when I see the Hawks lose games this season. For the future of the franchise this team is far better off bottoming out this year as opposed to being a middle of the pack team.

Just my opinion. The more losses, the better chance of getting a Bedard or a Fantilli. There's just so many trash teams to have to compete with.

Last year we had a 7-11-2 record, fired our GM, our interim GM fired the coach and replaced him with a losing AHL coach(current asst. coach) after 20 games...

This year we’re 6-10-3 and about to face Kirby Dach and the Canadiens tomorrow...

Gm got himself fired with his past shenanigans. He might still be here if not for that.

The clock had run out for Bowman here, but Rocky didn't seem to see that. I'm not sure he's still here if not for what happened with Beach. But his firing certainly didn't seem imminent when that news broke.

Agreed. Once they had to make everything public that sealed his fate.

If we end up with 4 or 5 and Michkov is available you cut a rug and go draft him. If we end up at 2 you probably draft him.

He is in Bedard's ballpark.

This team is going to be trash for at least 2 more years after this one. Some Davidson era prospects should be in the line up in years 2 and 3 after this season. Michkov enters in year 4 and we're rolling.

Add the current political climate between Russia and the West to the fact sometimes Russian prospects don't want to come over until later in their career, if at all, I wouldn't want to see the Hawks touch a Russian in the first round.

I would assume that if the Hawks draft him, it’s because they did a thorough due diligence and they are very confident (95%+) he’s coming over after his KHL deal. His timing would be perfect.

I won't be mad if we end up with Yager or Carlsson. Maybe even Benson/Dvorsky at worst. Not sure when you would take Michkov. There is a lot talent to take that has less questionmarks (contract and russian factor with all whats going on).

This team will be bad enough to finish bottom 3 and even with the worst luck in the lottery they'd get a great prospect. I'm not that worried tbh.
