Sucks that he was supposed to be our Hjalmarsson replacement. In hindsight we should’ve just kept Hammer and Panarin. What a failure of a decision
Hammer lasted 4 more seasons after that trade. Murphy is still playing.Sucks that he was supposed to be our Hjalmarsson replacement. In hindsight we should’ve just kept Hammer and Panarin. What a failure of a decision
This is some funny stuff. Heavy drinking during the week?He isn't, he is a good bottom pairing Dman. No offense, average defensively, those are bottom pairing Dmen.
He is far too inconsistent to be a middle pairing Dman. Some times he plays like a 4th/5th type guy, more often than not he plays like a bottom pairing Dman.
Or y'know, and hear me out, they flip for him for the haul that he was worth instead of BRANDON f***ING SAADHawks keep Panarin and they're in hockey purgatory for a decade and a half.
I just don't recall the league having a team that looked like they would part with more.Or y'know, and hear me out, they flip for him for the haul that he was worth instead of BRANDON f***ING SAAD
I don't think they looked at other options.I just don't recall the league having a team that looked like they would part with more.
It was bad, but the only way the Hawks would have done better is if they take draft picks and a good prospect. I don't think McD was going to let that happen.
Who then was going to give up a haul for him as an expiring contract AND who many thought got his numbers by playing alongside Kane?I don't think they looked at other options.
Toews was whining to Stanley to bring Saad back.
There was also an additional year on Panarin's contract. They didn't have to move him that summer.
I agree and that is why I go back and forth on him. I've said it before that I think he's a player that lives and dies by the system he plays in. When he's playing well, he can be decent defensively.I think Murph in a good system, with a better pool of D talent / partners, would do just fine on a contending team. Let's hope other GMs think so too...
As the clock ticked on Panarin's contract, his value was going down. The whole league knew it was about money for him on the next deal.I don't think they looked at other options.

A non issue for Toronto who I could easily see being in on Murphy.A big problem is his contract moving up to 5.8 real dollars
Many players wanted contracts structured with actual dollars being higher after the Covid recovery escrow period.Murphy is a very good 2nd pair type.
A big problem is his contract moving up to 5.8 real dollars. The other is health.
I will never understand why the contract is built like that other than Rocky putting them on a budget.
I wonder how much his value drops with the hike in 24' $$. Big markets won't car but it might dampen the demand a bit.
If Muzzin is in fact done I can see his LTIR as part of a return.A non issue for Toronto who I could easily see being in on Murphy.
Moving Holl + Engvall (who both suck) is all it'll take to make the salary work.
Then just a matter of adding those sweet picks and prospects to satisfy Chicago.
They’ve already been in purgatory from 2018 until this season when we’re finally tanking. Instead of actually having a shot at being a good team however, we traded an All Star winger for a top 9 forward in Saad.Hawks keep Panarin and they're in hockey purgatory for a decade and a half. Nobody wanted to gamble huge on a trade since he wanted the money and had not proven himself a playoff performer. Hawks spend 33 AAV on Toews Kane and Panarin and are forced to keep building the roster to "win now" by trading away anything decent that needs a year or more of development. They wouldn't get out of the first round for years.
It was a bad trade but it wasn't going to get better. Hawks were done being good 5 on 5 after Hossa left the ice anyway.
It was a free two years. Toews and Kane's extension by McD 6 days before the 14' convention is what made sure any Panarin or similar player wouldn't be part of the team for the rest of the decade.
Getting the lottery win and 8th overall picks isn't purgatory. Only the lockout year where they got the Reichel pick was like thatThey’ve already been in purgatory from 2018 until this season when we’re finally tanking. Instead of actually having a shot at being a good team however, we traded an All Star winger for a top 9 forward in Saad.
I doubt we win a Cup if we didn’t do that major Panarin/Hammer shakeup but it probably would’ve been better than what we got from the Nashville sweep onwards. The cap would’ve worked out, Kane would’ve still had an elite linemate, we could’ve figured something out for Toews perhaps as well.
Looking at our pending UFAs as trade bait...
Patrick Kane
Jonathan Toews
Max Domi
Andreas Athanasiou
Jack Johnson
Jarred Tinordi
Alex Stalock
Jujhar Khaira
Buddy Robinson
Dylan Sikura
Luke Philip
Brett Seney
Defiantly looking at another 5-6 picks coming the Blackhawks way...
So like I said...add another 5-6 picksPatrick Kane
Jonathan Toews
Max Domi
Andreas Athanasiou
Jack Johnson
Jarred Tinordi
I don't see them getting anything for anyone outside of these guys
The ducks may be even worse than us considering how bad Gibson has fallen off a cliff while already not having a great offenseWould have been nice to lose to the Ducks. Anyways, if I’m being objective, I still think we are the least talented team in the league. Just need these other bottom feeding idiots to win a couple games.
Remember all the people earlier in the season who thought the Hawks might be "too good to tank". Lol.
Good times.
