I've seen some Sawchyn.
I'm sure I'll get some more games in before the draft.
He's a talented player so I wouldn't balk if I saw him ranked late 1st, but I have him pegged as a 2nd rounder.
He's not unlike Cole Guttman. A small player that is years away from an NHL debut. Not the easiest type of player to project.
I think at times he tries to do too much and it gets him into trouble. Looks good when it works, but that's often not the outcome. For a playmaker, I've seen him miss some obvious passing lanes. He has 40 assists so that might be nitpicky, but he also plays on such a loaded roster so it's a bit easier to rack those up.
I think for me it comes down to where do I see him fitting into an NHL roster, and it's not the easiest fit to find. I don't think he'll ever produce enough to be a top6er, and I don't think he has the size to hack it as a 4th liner. So you're stuck with a scenario where he's either a 3rd liner or a career AHLer (probably a very good AHLer, for what it's worth).
So from my point of view, his outlook is limited. I'd prefer to draft guys with more versatility (or upside). Players who you think can fill more than one type of role on a roster, that way there's more options and higher odds that they find a niche.
Looking at our picks, I think the Tampa 2nd (currently 57th) is the earliest I'd consider him.
