2023 NHL Draft situation

NHL trade deadline day...

Upto date draft standings...

Hawks picked up some picks this week(an understatement) now currently picking #2, #26(TB), #34, #46(OTT), #57(NYR), #58(TB), #66, #93(DAL) and #96...nine picks in the top 100...and the team is only gonna get worse today!

Yeah he would be an awesome add, i really like him too. My favorite is starting to be Moore though out of the second tier.

Quite a lot of very nice options to trade up for.

(Disclaimer) I don’t pretend to be a draft expert. I have seen clips and read things but I don’t “study” prospects.)

From what I’ve seen Michkov is easily the 2nd best player in this draft. Assuming the proper research is done and is good he’s (for me) the choice.
Beyond that Smith seems like a longtime number 1 C who does everything well.
Bedard is a no brainer at 1.
Fantilli is the favorite at 2. (Not mine)
Michkov (to me) is Kane’s replacement.
Smith appears to be (to me) a solid #1 C.

Is Carlsson really more than a good power forward?

I've only seen Carlsson for a few games in the Juniors tournaments but he was everywhere.
It seemed like any time SWE had a scoring chance, Carlsson's influence was all over it.
He's a big dude who was all over the front of the net, has good speed, good hands, uses his size well.

Honestly, as long as the Hawks finish in the bottom two, I'm very happy to see them pick any of the top four prospects.

Seeing as our one and only ever 1st OA pick ( that's right we've only had one? ) just left it only seems fair or perhaps karmically just that we now receive one to replace the one we lost.

If you want to talk karma, the GM deliberately burned this team to the ground to lose every game possible. Karma probably doesn’t like that. Karma would have them drafting 9th.

Michkov is not "easily" the #2 pick. If you're looking at O-zone only, then yes. But Fantilli has a better overall game.

That's one way to look at sure, but another is that by burning it all down a phoenix can arise anew in the form of Nazar, Korchinsky, Bedard etc etc.

Moore is top 10 for me. Incredible skating, great compete and high IQ. Like you said, Davidson is probably salivating. Obviously can’t take him at 2-4.

In 2007 JVR and Turris had overall game as well. Projected to be a power forward and a #1 center respectively. Hawks wasted the pick on some small soft offense only guy.

#1=CBJ
#2=VAN
#3=CHI

So Carlsson or Michkov or Smith

I do not think KD waits 3 more seasons to get Michkov (and you never know if Russia oulks shenanigans to keep hi9m there or if the Transfer Agreenent with KHL still in susoenspin or nit) ...so alk kinds if Risks to =uncertainties...doubt KD takes such risks...besides we need a 1C. He is a winger.

Carlsson =PowerPoint C ..think Kopitar...209ft okayer . Already playing Swedish pros inKHL and doing well...Maybe can ojay right away in tge Show Big size..
Will Smith...probably needs 2 years i NCAA ...Not because his skill or talent is not there. Checks off al the boxes except size as a currently 6'0 172 ...Can drive yourctop line...best slot passer in the draft.. goidxshot..Smart...goid skater...good edges...work ethic..defebsively good..so Strength the only issue at this stage ..He also has a special chemistry with linemate winger Gabe Perrault who has probably moved way up after he and Smith have been ripping it up even better in the 2nd half..

If youvgivfor Smith you gotta try to move up to grab Perrault too..If so you get a dynamic duo ..but still tgey probably need 2 years in NCAA to muscle up.. But the talent is there to form a great line if you can pull that off.

Ok ...not saying Hawks actually finish 3rd after lotto...but end in 4th still get one of2 very good players.. Nice consolation prize..but unless Vancouver or whoever is in the #2 slot after lotto takes Carlsson,Hawks at #3would not get Fantilli .

But TSN did actuak lottery rules with ping pong balks determining teams'fates...the NHL may have Gary "fixing" it..if he does...let is hope he fixes it for Chicago as the NHL need a strong Chicago market..not saying...but if there's any chance......?

Do you get tired of doing this? You constantly post about mock draft lotteries as if they are what will happen and then get upset about it. Then proceed to ramble about the results and how others are effing the Hawks and how we are destined to not get Bedard.

We get it. The odds of not drafting him are higher than getting him.

I like to think that we can't go wrong if we finish in the bottom 2 ......even if someone wins the Bedard sweepstakes, we would get Fantilli or Michkov, correct?
 
I know there was convo about this earlier here, but im starting to really love prospects like Moore, Leonard, Cristall etc., who are in the tier after the top 4 theoretically.

If we fall to 3rd would you guys trade rhat pick to say montreal who is currently sitting at 7 and 11?

I think i would. The question is like 1 of Carlsson or Michkov vs 2 of say Moore and Leonard.

Fantilli for me is beyond any trade down scenario, but Carlsson definitely isnt. I dont know about Michkov right now...
