Well I don´t claim anything that Carlsson will be but to say he isn´t elite talent or doesn´t have a first line potential is way out of line. I´m not going to pretend here to be smarter than everyone else but there is enough evidence that Carlsson has star potential. Just not the media hype.
Well, Sundin wasn’t flashy outside of a couple years but got the job done good enough to land in the hall of fame.

If Carlsson turns into that I’d say that’s a damn fine pick.

And yes, there’s articles out there that say the guys hockey IQ is elite

Well what I´ve seen and heard of him he is the most promising forward talent from Sweden since Niklas Backstrom. Some see Mats Sundin on him. Some say he might be most promising forward talent from Sweden since Peter Forsberg.
To say all that is to minimize some great talents that came out of Sweden.

Since Backstrom there's been Landeskog, Zibanejad, Forsberg, Lindholm, Nylander, Pettersson, Raymond, Eklund...

Highly unlikely Carlsson surpasses everyone on that list.

And nobody has brought up the Bedard factor.

Compared to Bedard, everyone looks like a second line player this draft.

If the Hawks get the third pick, you take either Michkov, who is generational, or Carlsson.
His talent is undeniable but we all know why that might not happen.

I'm familiar with his thoughts on Carlsson. Nothing there suggests that he's a 1C. If anything it's closer to 2C because he doesn't use words like elite or game breaking and whatnot. It's positive, but reserved. The kinds of things you'd say about a top 5, but not top 3 prospect.

And I don't claim to have the definitive truth. But those that claim what hockey media tells them to be the definitive truth are no better.

I've seen lots of tape on these guys. Most people haven't.
but you said hes a 2C and you prob have watched him play max 4 times.

Sure but the potential a lot of people see in him is real. We are talking about potential. You said he is 2C. I´m saying his got a first line and elite player potential. I´m not saying or pretending to know what he will be but he has the potential to be elite player in the NHL. And if you look Carlsson´s points in SHL he is producing in his draft year better than anyone you mentioned above except Lindholm. Landeskog and Pettersson didn´t play in SHL when they were drafted. Yes I know, points don´t tell you the hole truth but he is producing in pretty unique level in SHL as a draft year player.

That's what the media is saying, sure.

I have different opinions. So do NHL teams.

As the great Mike Doneghey once said: It’s not necessarily what The Athletic might have, what Craig Button might have or what Sam Cosentino might have, what Central Scouting might have. They’re not building the Blackhawks. They’re putting names on the board where they think those guys are gonna go.
Like I said, Dach all over again.

Landeskog and Pettersson didn´t play in SHL when they were drafted.
Pettersson couldn't because his team was in the Allsvenskan. They weren't promoted to the SHL level that season.

But make no mistake, he was absolutely capable of playing in the SHL.

And he torched the Allsvenskan.

If he was in the SHL that season, he'd have easily had 30 points.

Just read a fine article about the Hawks Top 20 Prospects in the entire organization. 5 of the Top 10 came from this last draft. 9 of the Top 20 came from this last draft. Good to see Kyle Davidson and his staff on the right track and laying the foundation for future success.

The “Russian factor”?

I’m not buying it
Me neither. How far back do you have to go to find a Russian of note taken in the first round who did not come over to North America? any in the last 2 decades? Sure, you may have to wait a year or two longer while a contract gets played out, but if a Russain can play at a high level in the NHL, make no mistake that they will be here by the time they are 21/22 in most cases. All that said, it is not necessarily a bad thing for the Hawks where the plan appears to be to suck for the next several years and stack up high end talent. Michkov playing men in Russia while we suck and hopefully rack up a couple more top 5 picks in the '24 & '25 drafts is not much different then Bedard or Fantilli getting thrown into the deep end on a couple of terrible Hawks teams over the next 2 season. Going into the deep end at the NHL level is just as likely to end up being the Jack Hughes expereince in NJ where the first couple of NHL seasons are some growing pains and 3 years out before you turn the corner into a star player.

I would be happier with Bedard of Fantilli as you have no questions or waiting and they project pretty easily to be top line talents. But if the lotto balls bounce outside of the top 2, you're still getting a pretty nice piece to build off at 3 or 4. Maybe it turns out as Cam Barker at #3 redux with Malkin and Ovi going 1 + 2, but I think Carlsson and Michkov have floors of being way better than the modern day equivalent of Barker.

The player Carlsson is compared to most is Anze Kopitar...

Kopitar is playing in hisx17th season forvthe L A. Kings ...2 Stanley Cups
Their 1C just as Toesz was the Hawks 1C designation.

Kopitar .883 ppg vs..830 ppg for Toews

Kopitar 1125pts in 1274 reg season GP

Toews 880 pts in 1060 reg sesson games

Nobody would dare call these guys (at least in their primes ) not 1Cs.. They were 1Cs. 3 way Centers...

However neither can be called Generational inthe the sense of McDavid or Crosby..Mathews maybe Geberational too...but since he has not yeyt ormay never win a Cup , he gets diminished as that as if he has a big flaw on his resume...So to will McDavid unless he wins a Cup....despite GenerationallTalent.

The presumption that Bedard maybe Geberational but not Carksdin does nit mean Carlsson is not a legit NHL1C candidate...in the same way KooitarxandcToews had long careers andxCuosxas 1C'forvtheir teams.

I am niot sure Carlsson will becas goidxss Kooitarvor Toees in his prone wss defensively ...but probably close...He may be slightly better offensively ..
So my guess hexwilk be akso .88 ppg to maybe a 1.0 ppg guy in the NHL too.

Not every 1C is a 90 to 120 point production points leader...

But you woukd not not dare say Kopitar,Toews or Bergeron were not 1Cs and so there vs no reason to exclude Carlsson once he gets to the show and reaches prime to be a 1C forvtgectesm that drafts him.

But I think you would agree that Bedard and Fantilli lol to have the ability to be 100pts + guys and maybe 125+points guys...

So tgevisduevis notv2C orx2C...rather 1C b types vs.1Ca or 1Ca+ or 1Ca++ types.

Kopitar and Toews (in his prone) = 1Cb types but with 2 and 3Cuos respectively

.not bad at all(well.. except for the post 2015 Machu Picchu version of Toews and all his health problems since his sumner vacation to M.P.).

TOEWS Of course did not go till #3in hisxdraft ..and Koputar was even lower...

But I think we can project Carlsson a bit higher for production than them, but slightly essential defensivelyvthsn those two in their prime Cuo years.

Ot is pretty clear to me that of tgex4 Venter cabdidates:
#1Bedard
#2 Fabtil

#3 could be Carlsson or Smith...but Bothwell be very good picks tgerevorxat #4...

The Michkov ranking is more debateable:

. A winger not aCentsr
.a much smaller player
.tge Russian factor/uncertainty of if he can cone over eben waiting 3 more seasons to finish KHL contract

Maybe Geberatjonal winger...but lotsvof issues involved.

So lemme get this straight…

NHL scouts who get paid money to scout say Carlsson is an elite talent and a consensus top five pick in a rather deep draft means nothing compared to “watching a lot of tape”…..

And for the record I think Michkov is the second best talent in this draft.
Most everyone thinks the same except for the Russian factor dropping him down. That is the only reason he most likely won't go 2nd because it would take ownership to sign off on that pick in that position.

No matter where we pick we are getting a very good player to help with the rebuild.

There’s so much win in this post it should be worshipped in small suburbs around Chicago.

Somebody I follow on social media is the biggest Kaprizov fan in the universe and when he’s saying Michkov is better I tend to put a little stock in what he says.

I’m not saying it isn’t an issue, I’m saying I don’t buy into it.

Are their teams that have him on their do not draft list? Probably. But I don’t think somebody with that much talent drops considerably when there’s a huge drop off from first overall then another huge drop off from fourth overall. I don’t see Michkov falling beyond fourth and if he does Davidson needs to use all these draft picks he has and move to get him because outside of a few guys in the next few drafts nobody is on his level.

The Hawks system was a joke.

Davidson could have drafted a decomposing body last year and it would have ranked high.

Was is the correct verb....congrats on that.....They are now considered to be in the Top 10 due to what they added. Just look at the stats of Korchinski, Savoie, Hayes, Green----all encouraging as heck....I clearly don't share your incessant pessimism here and at this point, its unsubstantiated given the above.

They traded away proven young talent for lottery tickets. Of course they’re going to shoot up the medias prospect rankings.

Not that having how many players play in the WJC had anything to do with it or anything.

Stat watching is fine and dandy when these kids are playing in juniors or college. Until they make an impact in the nhl it doesn’t mean a thing.

Like I said before, it remains to be seen if Davidson knows how to draft.

Hawks will want something to show for the tank, that takes Michkov off the table with the KHL factor
Michkov would be an absolute upgrade to anything in the Hawks system.
