People are saying that Bedard is comparable to McDavid and Crosby as prospects, not NHL players.
Apples to apples, what McDavid and Crosby were in their draft year as prospects is the same level that Bedard is. Maybe he isn't as good but he is in the conversation.

Bedard vs.McDavid :
Using their draft year stats pace projected for 68GP (WHL pkaysx68 game schedule; OHL playsx65 gamexscheduke but to equalize GP I am using their production paces projected for 68GP ):
McDavid (2014/15 with Erie OHL):
47GP 44g 76 a =120 pts +60
* 68GP 63g 110a =173 pts +87
* (projected)
Bedard (2022/23 with Regina WHL):
31GP 36g 42a = 78 pts to date +23
* 68GP 79 g 92a =171 pts +50
Bedard is better at goal scoring ;McDavid better with assists ...
As to the big +37 differential in the +/- stat (+87 fir McDavid to only +50 for Bedard), this may be related more to takentvdeoth of their respective teams and who was playing with them on their lines and d-pairson their shifts than tge individual Even strength abilities of each of them in scoring -goals against when on shift at evens...
My sense is that McDavid had better talent to play with than Bedard has this season in Regina and that Bedard axtuakky carries more load in terms of game outcome that McDavid was facing with the talent he had in Erie...but I will leave that discussion for others..
Suffice to say theirvoroduction seems comparable..but Bedard the better goal scorer...McDavid the better assists guy..

If Connor Bedard has a career like Patrick Kane that's still a great outcome for a 1st overall pick.
I feel like everyone is being set up to be disappointed if he's not at least in the conversation with McDavid.

I knew he did it as an overager but I wasn't sure if it was D+1 or D+2
Look at Lafreniere. He put up over 2 ppg in his D0 year and hasn't done jack shit in the NHL.
I'm not saying that Bedard sucks or anything, just that nobody knows just how good he'll be until he gets here.

It's not necessarily imperative the Hawks get Bedard, but it is imperative they get one of Bedard/Fantilli/Michkov/Carlsson.
Like if the Hawks get Bedard I'm not expecting McDavid. I'm expecting Kane or other 1st overall picks that were damn good players. Not expecting McDavid, Crosby or Ovi as those guys are rare.

Your expectations change with the day of the week.
Just enjoy whoever the hawks draft with their first and relax whenever the kid starts playing for them. Don’t get yourself worked up for no reason and flood every thread with outlandish quotes and future edits.
This is going to be a long and sometimes sloppy rebuild with guarantee of success.

KBS probably said the same thing about McDavid when he was coming into the league ("fans should temper expectations on McDavid. He's being compared to Crosby? He'll be lucky to have a Kane like career!").

Laf was almost a year older than Bedard during his D0 season. Bedard is 2 months away from being eligible for the 2024 NHL draft.
And again, it's not just points. Bedard generates offense at an exceptional rate, independent of the points he scores. An argument could be made that Bedard has underproduced relative to the offense he's generated in the WHL this year.

SOME need to temper our wishes for the Tank enough to let CBJ and ANH each be hit with bad luck and drop 1-2 spots each..but if we finish 3rd last,4th last or 6th last then we will be lucky in the lotto amd move up maybe to #1or #2...
