2023 NHL Draft situation

Schedule really softens up in the next month with multiple games against the yotes and cbj, and games vs. the blues, Nashville, flyers, sharks…

Now would be a good time to trade Kane and whoever else has value.

Kane gets the final say on anywhere he may end up being traded.

He might be feeling as though he's in between a rock and a hard place. He's likely interested in Mikita's records but I doubt he's enjoying playing for the current rendition of the Hawks.

with the half dozen or so one timers he set up last night when his teammate whiffed, I think he realizes he isnt setting any records with noone to play with. That might soften his stance a tax

He'd enjoy playing with Bedard. Bedard and Kane as linemates are a match made in heaven.

Ideally you trade Kane to NYR for Kakko+, Hawks win the lotto, draft Bedard and you roll with a Kakko-Bedard-Kane line.

I would be happy with Fantilli too. He has been playing well collegiately against men 2-4 years older than him.

We're in a good spot.

Either we win 1st and draft Bedard, win 2nd and draft Fantilli, or fall anywhere else and draft Cristall.

No matter what, we wind up with an elite talent at worst.

I'd be disappointed with Carlsson but he's not a terrible consolation prize. All three of Bedard/Fantilli/Carlsson are 1st OA quality players, but just different tiers themselves.

Based on the draft rankings I've seen, Cristall is someone who should be available with the Tampa pick.

Won't happen. He'll be a top 10 lock by draft day, and probably wind up top 5.

The media is slow.

I had Slafkovsky #1 on my board this time last year when everyone still had Wright, Kemell, Savoie, Cooley, Nemec ahead of him.

Idk, I think he might go in the teens at best, even if he's a big mover. I've seen him ranked around the high 20s and low 30s,

Not a single org or even a single scout besides you has Cristall in the top 5. He has that trademark Musto overhyped bust potential written all over him

You're basing that solely off of what the media is telling you in December 2022
Literally a week ago you said you havent watched anyone in the 23 class:laugh:

EliteProspects just ranked Cristall at 5

The narrative shift is already starting

Naturally, I was ahead of the curve
Show the receipts he is ranked #5 right now

You had him in the top 3 which is crazy to me... and this is coming from someone who likes Cristall alot. Now if the Hawks drop down to #4-5 then maybe I'll squint at Cristall. Top 3? Zero shot.

Carlsson doesn't have Cristall's skill, and Michkov isn't as complete.

Having Cristall at 3 isn't as crazy as it seems.

And unfortunately Chicago dropping to 4 or 5 is a reality we have to prepare for.

Let's not act like Cristall is some dynamo in the defensive zone. And Cristall definitely has great skill. Michkov is just another level above. Only reason why I'm hesitant on Michkov is the Russian factor. Literally that's the only reason.

I'm not saying he's a dynamo, but he's not a floater.

Michkov is worthless unless the puck is on his stick. Of course when it is, he's capable of elite play. But it's still frustrating. It's like watching current day Kane. Lots of empty stats, not a high impact player.

He's a very raw right now, and is very far from playing in the NHL. Some people will really value that pure upside and hope they wind up with their own Panarin or Kaprizov. That's tantalizing, I get it.

But I look at Cristall, and I see a surefire elite talent with no question marks. Michkov comes with a lot of asterisks.

I like Cristall but #3 is a bit too high at this point. I've been to a few of Kelowna's games this year. A year ago, when I said Cristall would be a top 10 pick for the 2023 draft, I wasn't kidding. He's certainly improved his stock since then with the solid Hlinka-Gretzky performance he had as well as the terrific start to the regular season. He's a heck of a player but has his limitations. He can get into the top 10 but he's not there for me yet. I still want to see what he does in the second half when the teams start jockeying for playoff positions and the checking becomes tighter. He could move up and he could also move down. There are a lot of real good players in the 2023 draft, especially from the DUB. Cristall is definitely one of them. Without mentioning any names, we currently have Cristall ranked 6th in the DUB for the 2023 draft. Those that follow the DUB closely would know who the 5 that we have ranked ahead of him are. Still lots of hockey to be played between now and the draft so things will no doubt change by then.

This may seem like a dumb question but what is the worst draft position the worst team can get? I thought it was 4th but read somewhere that it's 3rd.

Oh, and about Cristall, I didn't see him in the top 32 just a month ago but somebody named Ferrari has him at 7th and another site had him at 12th so I guess he is rising.

The worst case scenario is to drop from 1 to 3.
It used to be from 1 to 4 however.

Carlsson is at the level or above of Peter Forsberg and the Sedin twins per EP at this point in their respective careers in the SHL. If that is the case then I am good to go with him as our 6'3" C with Nazar 2nd line C.
