2023 NHL Draft situation

McDavid is worth $20m and only being paid 12.5m. The rest of the team is worthy of blame, but certainly not him.

His contract is a steal.
I don't disagree but with the way the NHL salary cap works its really difficult to put a good team around him. It takes an exceptional GM.

I guess the argument that I'm making is that tier 1 stars make the GM's job harder than it should be.

I'm not blaming McDavid as much as I'm blaming the NHL's salary cap for being too rigid.

Is it that we're not understanding your argument or is it that you're not understanding your argument?

I did a poor job of explaining my thoughts.

It's not McDavid's fault at all. It's not about him.

There is something to $10M players though as through 2020 they did not win a playoff series, and the only teams to win playoff series with a $10M player are Montreal in 2021 and Edmonton in 2022. Maybe the dam is cracking with this.

So, the hawks are on pace for 51 points currently. That’s historically bad, in contention for that Avalanche record a few years ago

I think the team might actually be better when Kane and Toews are gone. I can’t imagine they’re doing much leading at this point. But tank wise, it couldn’t be going better. 1 win in the last 15 games.

When is the last time we heard a peep from Davidson? Then again what's he going to say. I have a chance to take in home game in Jan but long way to go from BC to watch this disaster. Brutal.

Just stop.

Having one of the best players in the league is trash. Give me eichel.

I don't if it's just me but as I catch up on this year's draft class, I haven't been impressed with anyone outside Bedard and Fantilli. Maybe Carlsson.

Still have a lot of guys to watch, but haven't found anyone else I'd pound the table for.
Well this was premature. I'm retracting this statement already.

Today I tracked Andrew Cristall.

Oh man.

Top 5 player in the draft this year. Better than Michkov.

As of now (these things are always subject to change) if the draft happened today, and the lottery f***ed us out of Bedard and Fantilli, I would take Andrew Cristall at 3rd overall.

Cristall is damn good, but not #3 overall good (and I like him alot).

Who do you like more than him?

Not counting Carlsson, Michkov and a couple others mocked at #3, I am still a Yager stan. Better shot, better skater, better defensively and not as soft (I know you have a thing for soft, skilled players). Cristall definitely has him beat with his vision, hands and playmaking though. Yager is a bit bigger and will fill out more as he ages. Both guys have a very good I.Q. for the game. Cristall's season certainly has been very impressive though. Reminds me of a faster, less gritty, left shooting Giroux.

Cristall isn't soft though. He does need to work in the gym more, but he does engage physically.

Maybe it's just me, but I think you're a better team with Eichel and William Nylander than McDavid alone.
I think it's better to spread the production around a bit.
Depth wins cups.
It’s Alex Nylander. Eichel (Buf 2015 1st) Nylander (Buf 2016 1st)

Alright so Michkov is guaranteed to be better than Cristall

It all depends what the gap is between Bedard and Fantili. Is the gap worth more than a high 2024 pick or not. That’s the debate.

As of now, it appears that the gap is just too wide to entertain any trade, which is perfectly fine. I assume it’s still going to be the case at draft time but who knows.

So I guess if we turn things around, we would trade the 2nd overall and our 2024 unprotected 1st fot the first overall this year if we could, right?

So 12 hours later and all of a sudden you found someone who is definitely top 5 in the draft?

It’s almost like you become easily obsessed with certain players.
Yeah it's crazy but I like elite players with lots of skill, high compete, and play a 200ft game

I know that clearly makes me unique though

Again..it would sick ifHawks finish last or 2nd and getting pushed back 1 or even 2 spots via beibg unlucky in the lottery results..

Imagine this pain and no Bedard or Fantilli reward.

The consensus if experts is that Michkov is the best Russian goal scoring talent since Ovechkin...a generational offensive talent...but the usual caveats on size which also limit defensive capability. Nevertheless you cannot ignore special talent like him ....BUT tge Russian factor and his contract wait till it terminates only 3seasons after thec 2023 Draft puts Hawks in a difficult decision if they end up drafting 3rd.

Seems like Carlsson is experts' consensus 4th and would go 3rd if team drafting 3rd does not want to wait for Michkov.

These are the only 4 picks the Hawks should consider in scenarios where they finish last or 2nd last.....Yaeger ,Cristall or Zach Benson or the top rated American prospect would all be in a tier from 5th trough 8th unless that euro (Austrian) d-man keeps rising as scouts seem to be talking about with more interest recently...
In that case the 3 WHL forwards(Yager Cristal and Benson and the toprated American forward could extend to a 5-9 pick tier...

So if Hawks finished 2nd last the most they could drop is to 4th in worst case scenario afterctgec2 lotto draws..

If team sekectibgv3rdcoassesvon Michkov,as good as prospect as Yaege,r Cristal lBenson or the top American could be =none are generational goal scorer's like Michkov...So Hawks would accept whoever team selecting 3rd leaves for them th slot=Michkov or Carlsson.

If it is Michkov still there's #4 in this"worst case scenario (where Hawks finished 2nd and lost 2 spots viateans below them winning the 2 lottos), the Hawks could also consider trading down 1 orc2 spots and still get the guy they want from the 5-9 ranking Group. Maybe Arizona would be willing to wait on Michkov and would pay a good return to move upto get him?

So there are different options involved ...but I cannot see Michkov not being taken top 4bofvyoubarecjudgibgbon a talent scale.

Somebody will take the risk of waiting on him.

Everyone here knows what he means but is piling because it’s KBS and that’s what posters here do.
He literally referenced the cap hits of T/K jumping. Those unable to follow along for what? 5 posts? Have a serious lack of either comprehension skills or deductive reasoning.
Nice
