2023 NHL Draft situation

Would anyone trade the first overall for the second overall and the other team’s 2024 unprotected first?

You’d get Fantili and hopefully two top 5 picks in 2024. Would that be enough or is that a dumb idea?

I mean, it's a lotto.

So it's going to be largely dependent on who wins the second pick and whether that team is convincingly bad enough to ensure a top 5 pick next year with the addition of Bedard.

But that said, I'd need more.....a lot more to make that trade.

If a team is 10 points clear of the Hawks by the new year, no chance the Hawks will be able to catch them in the standings.

So hopefully some of these bubble teams can rattle off some wins these next few weeks.

Gotcha. I think you would need far more than an unprotected 24 pick to even ponder the thought for more than 3 seconds.

We have to be careful of over-hyping up the next guy - in this case Fantili. Remember when many people thought Eichel could or would be as good as McDavid?

Also, don't hold Edmonton's lack of success with McDavid against Bedard. If you put a generational superstar in Chicago, players will flock to Chicago to play with him. This isn't the cold north of Edmonton.

Good point. Even Edmonton had become somewhat of a destination for a little while post drafting McDavid. Was it not Justin Schultz who was a sought after free agent who signed with the Oilers back then? If that was the case for Edmonton, it would be much more true for the Hawks.

Edit: no it wasn’t Schultz, he signed before the McDavid draft.

Blues pick up an important point. Blue Jackets up 2-0 in the second. Key game tonight is Philly and Arizona. Going to want that one headed into OT.

So with Chicago battling Anaheim for last place, we’ll really the Hawks have been falling while Anaheim has been holding...it looks more and more like a top four pick is quaranteed...

40.2% 4th overall
32.0% 3rd overall
14.4% 2nd overall
13.5% 1st overall

So it’s Michkov, Carlsson, Fantilli or Bedard

Then a second pick in the 20-26 overall spot via TB

Blues pick up a controversial two points. Nashville picks up a loser point. Philly picks up two. And obviously the Ducks won. Sabres picked up two as well.

These teams are thankfully getting away from the Hawks. There are only four teams at this point the Hawks are within 7 points of.

I don't if it's just me but as I catch up on this year's draft class, I haven't been impressed with anyone outside Bedard and Fantilli. Maybe Carlsson.

Still have a lot of guys to watch, but haven't found anyone else I'd pound the table for.

I don’t watch these guys so I can’t weigh in, but I did read someone the other day pumping up Gulyavev, fwiw. Seems like a late 1st rounder who could be there with the TB pick.

Any early thoughts on Yager and/or Will Smith around that #5 pick?
