2023 NHL Draft situation

If my scouting department has a group of players in the same tier, I'm probably taking the guy with size though.

But in cases like DeBrincat, where he's obviously the BPA, go for it.
I think size makes a huge difference for defenseman. You can get away with a few small skilled forwards but if you have a roster full of them you get manhandled, especially in the playoffs.

I like the optimism, I just don't see how the Hawks stay below ANA, SJ, and AZ in the West. CLB is ready to implode and a couple of other teams are ready to fall apart.

The Hawks are going to have some streaks picking up points. There are going to be alot of meaningless games for playoff teams the last 3 dozen games.

I hope they bottom out, but I'm not sure they'll be able to yet.
Yes because the hawks are the only team that will have a streak of picking up points…
What honestly makes you think we are better than those teams?

We finished 6th last year and got a lot worse while you could argue every one of those teams got better through the draft or through free agency this offseason

Prediction: Bedard will not end up inArizona(Bettman wouldvnever allow a Generational Talent to play before just in that fail of a franchise.before just 5000 fans.

Prediction: Of course Bedard will end up with his favourite team= Canucks...just because hockeygods want to dig the knife deeper into Stan's mess....would be a double blow to Hawksc ans...because not only suffering this season and not getting Bedard as a reward but the indignity of especialy Vancouver getting him would be beyond torture....

Actually could be triple blow...if Vancouver finishes with more points than Hawks but wins lotto for #1 and pushes Hawks down 1 spot in the process ..

Bottom line...woukd not surprise me if Hawks miss outvon all of the top 3 ...

Just Karma...you design a Tank...but it still somehow misses the objective.
Dear diary…

The race to the bottom makes this season a bit more palatable. But some fans need to tap the brakes. Securing the top spot in the tank hardly means Bedard is ours. Less than 1 in 5 shot (let that sink in). #1 has a heck of a lot better shot than #2 though (37%).

I get what you’re saying. But it’s important to at the very least secure a bottom 2 spot. There’s an argument that the top 4 in this draft are better than anybody drafted in the last three years. So that would guarantee us a game changing talent.

2024 is looking like a special draft at the top too...

Cole Eiserman...Tanner Howe ...exceptional talents ...

Can anyone clarify the rule about being allowed only 2 lottery wibsvin a 5 year period?

Is this rule limited only to thex#1pick or does it include winning a #2 viav lotto?

Can you win back to back years then forfeitcany lottowin chancecthe nextc3 years forxax#1?or#2overall?

Ie.If Hawks win either #1or #2 thisc2023cdraft can they also opt to try again forxac#1or#2 via lotto in 2024 or must there be at least a 1 year break before they can try again?

Woukd be nice if we tanked again for 2024 and got another #1or #2overall pick viavlotto winagain.

Best scenario...Hawjs do not get a lotto win in 2923 but get either #3or #4...Tgen got lucky in 2024cwuth a#1or#2 viaxlitto and again got lucky with another #1or #2 in 2025.

Plus, who the hell even knows how Nazar will develop.

Talking yourself out of Conor Bedard because you have Frank Nazar is some odd Bowman-type stuff. Most of the time it’s best not to overthink it and just take the best player available.
we had Mitchell Boqvist no need for Jokiharju

Ducks grab a point in OT. Only two point out of last place. I cannot understate how bad Zegras looked. Who cares about points when you‘re completely useless in every other facet of the game. (I know it was only one game)
interesting I am going to have to really tune into a ducks game soon to watch Zegras.

That’s exactly it. Guarantee yourself a top-4 pick, and you know you’re getting an excellent player to build around going forward.

Getting Bedard or Fantilli is obviously the dream goal, but Michkov and Carlsson are also elite prospects.

This is also a multi-year rebuild. Even if you get Bedard this draft, you still want/need 2-3 more lotto picks before transitioning. I know some disagree with me on that point, but I think Davidson wants to follow the Colorado rebuild model of getting all elite talent via draft.

but if they finish last they will for sure get a top 3 pick or 2nd to last they for sure get a top 4 pick. There is a consensus top 4 players on the board. Bedard Fantilli Carlsson or Michkov. Dont tap any breaks. The bottom 2 seeds are important.

I think there are a top 2 then carlson and the Michov is signed 3 more years in the KHL after his draft year. that is really going to hurt his stock I think he goes 5th. just a guess

Thats why I like the prospect of any of Fantilli, Bedard, Michkov or Carlsson on this team

Any of those 4 guys would be a huge boon to our prospect pool.

I think Michkov goes 4th depending on the team in 3rd.
1 - Bedard
2 - Fantilli
3 - Mich / Carlsson - totally depends on if it is a completely rebuilding team (Ari/SJ/Chi/etc.) or a team like Columbus or Ottawa who want to be more competitive sooner.

Just remember that with the new rules, they can't win more than twice within a 5 year span
Right, but that just means can’t have #1 overall more than twice, doesn’t it? They can still pick in the top-3 several times, right?

Any of those four will be the best prospect the Hawks have drafted since Kane. Do most of us believe that statement?

How do you all see the Kraken's turnaround and think the only way to build a team is to root for several more years of trying to lose? Did anyone think they were a Burakovsky and Bjorkstrand free agent signing away from being one of the top teams in the conference? Did they announce that they were going for it this year? Should they still be trying to lose every game since they weren't expected to be competent?

Top two picks are lottery picks I think and you can't move up more than I want to say ten spots if you win the lottery. It's all muddled with what I knew when I got into hockey though.

And the brain damage.

Is it really that hard to be the 10th best team in your conference? I think the rebuild has a goal of being significantly better than 10th best. The goal is to look like the Avs, not the Kraken.

They have their franchise 1C already in Beniers,.

Wright is a 2C, and Firkus is top 6 wing.

Evans, Goyette, and Nelson could develop into contributors as well.

After only two drafts, there's a decent crop of young talent there. I don't think it's damning for them to suddenly be competitive. Though maybe with the strength of this draft, they should have held off lol.

They have their own first and three second round picks in this upcoming draft.
