Probably different philosophies. In the earlier rounds you want to take the safer pick to make sure you get value while in the later rou ds you can take bigger risks as the picks aren't worth much.

We're deeper at talent with defense than we are with our forwards. We can find shutdown defensemen in the 3rd and 4th rounds. We did grab Thrun in the 4th round.
