How about the other hundreds (?) of kids who were projected as superstars when they were toddlers? But sure, once or twice they'll pan out. We only remember those who did.

How many of those hundreds did win scoring titles of WJC U18 as underages? Led the top U20 league in goals as 15/16 year old? Set a scoring record for Hlinka?

I'm not saying Michkov isn't a great prospect, but the NHL is a different sport than U18/U20 hockey. It doesn't matter how good a prospect looks in a tournament like this, you never know how a player will handle the next step, which is a huge one. That's my point.

And points are a just a rough way of evaluating prospects. Michkov is hardly the best player I've seen in this tournament. It's not like you see a bunch of NHL super star players on the list of all-time top scorers at the Ivan Hlinka tournament.

He was the best player at U18. At Hlinka he didn't look as great as usual but still won the scoring title.

Locking 15 year olds into certain draft positions is this site in a nutshell. Anything can happen.

The so called "consensus 1st overall pick" for this years draft ended up going in the 2nd round. I remember starting a shit storm for questioning his game 1.5 years ago. People took it personally.

Fair enough but that was mainly because no one was really standing out and there weren't 2 prospects on the level like Bedard and Michkov who can both be called "generational" or as I prefer "exceptional" top prospects.

Shane Wright had a higher PPG average at U18 (2.8 to 2.29), played a more important defensive position and did so flawlessly, all while wearing the C for the gold-medal winning team. Even with a broken bone in his foot and a bout of strep throat, Wright was the best player at the U18s. I don't care who the directorate or the media voted for in post-tournament awards.

Michkov played 7 games not 5, scored three more goals, and one of Wright's goals was an empty netter. Most Michkov's goals were beautiful, and a few of them were phenomenal. Yeah, they named him the MVP absolutely rightfully.

Funny how you try to throw the shit at Wright for scoring an empty netter while you forget to throw the same shit at Mitchkov. Your phenomenal fanboy scored an empty netter in the finals to claim that scoring title when the game was already decided.

Its only Canadian boy who can be generational or what does Michkov have to do? Scoring at PPG in KHL as an 16-17 years old? Some try really hard to downgrade Michovs accomplishment so far:huh:
What are you talking about? Nobody is saying Michkov is not a generational talent or trying to downgrade his talent ... and he played in the MHL last year, not the KHL.

Even if you take away Wright's empty-net goal, he still had more points per game than Michkov -- all while playing better defence in a more demanding position. That he did it with not one, but two injuries after the first game makes it all the more impressive.

Tell me, by what measure do you think Michkov was the best player? Hint, the fact that he played two more games than Wright does not make him better. ;)

If Bedard had won the scoring title with Michkovs stats there wouldn t be a doubt who Was the best player even if Wright had the better ppg, or?

OK, respect
Sorry, wrong Button. I meant i respect Your opinion. But Wright and michkov have different roles. Wright is a center and as a center automaticaly He plays more resposable game. So a compromise could be that Michkov was the best wing and Wright the best center.

Michkov outplayed both Wright and Bedard in the final game and was the best Player on the ice and rightfully chosen as the tournament MVP.

Anatoly Tarasov is rolling over in his grave right now. Centres who outscore wingers and play better defence are more valuable, especially when they do it over a whole tournament. You don't award an MVP for one game -- that's what the player of the game baubles are for.

Which Wright did not…
