Honestly, Reinbacher at 5 and Cristall at 29. I’d be so down for that!

Very good point.

If we go Reinbacher,

Slafkovsky and Dach will need to establish themselves as solid top six players and frequently hit, at least, 60 points.

Slafkovsky, Dach, Dubois (if we get him), Suzuki, Caufield

Guhle, Reinbacher, Hutson

Could be a very solid core for a long time. Very nice mix of size, speed and skills.

I think Caufield, Dach and Hutson all have legit star potential.
Yeah I mean if the team evaluates our forwards and believes that say Dach and Slaf will become first line players and one of Farrell/Roy/Mesar/Beck hits and becomes a 1st-line player as well then maybe going Reinbacher isn't that bad.
What rounds were Robertson, Hintz, Bratt, Stone and Aho drafted in?

Hopefully better drafting and higher emphasis on development will allow us to have a few high scoring gem forwards in our lineup. I don't think we have a stud #1 D in our young core (Guhle is the closest) and these playoffs are showing the importance of having them.
This is also a fair point, but I also feel that it's easier to find a top line D (ex: Hutson last year) than a top line F later in the draft.

At the same time, I doubt you find Reinbacher late in the draft where as maybe one of like Wood/Sale/Cristall/Yager fall and actually become top-line forwards.

Engstrom is a LH shot that prefers to play on the RHS.
Harris was decent there this year, and has room to grow.
Kovacevic is pretty much a perfect bottom pair guy with this contract.

While fragile, RHD need is greatly overblown.
We only need 3 "RHD1 or RHD2" prospects really, and I think we have something above league average in Barron, Mailloux, Engstrom.

The cost of lost opportunity (what we're leaving on the table) is likely going to be lower with a ~10oa pick next year.
You can't be GM and optimize your assets in the big picture by evaluating only a year at a time - actually you can if you have purple pants.

Reinbacher is a good, even great prospect.
However to me, it just smells like Hannifin vs all-star 2015 draft all over again.
I do think Engstrom will play LD though in the NHL.

Yes we only need 3 RD and I agree that the 2RD his ok with Barron but we don't have that 1RD or 1st Dmen even if I love Guhle and that's as much important then a #1 C.

Or it could smell Seider at the place of Zegras what was a good thing for Detroit

The only thing I'm afraid of with drafting Reinbacher is that we become the 2017 Preds. Best D in the league with Subban, Josi, Ekholm and Ellis, but can't score.

We'll have Guhle, Reinbacher, Hutson and hope one of Mailloux/Barron/Engstrom is our 4th D and potentially have a top 2-3 D in the league. But then have a middle-of-the-pack offense.

Caufield and Suzuki are good, but is not McDrai, McKinnon/Rantanen, Matthews/Marner/Nylander, Hughes/Bratt/Hischier, Robertson/Hintz, Barkov/Tkachuk, Eichel/Stone. Maybe could compare to Aho/Svech?
And the 2017 Preds have won more series then the 2017-2023 Maple Leafs... Defence is the most important thing in the playoff

Here it is... I'm done

They might be interested by Reinbacher but all year the habs were around 6-7-8 in the draft, i think it’s pretty normal they looked at him and were interested.

they might still be but now they have the 5th pick so their targets maybe changed accordingly.

And the 2017 Preds have won more series then the 2017-2023 Maple Leafs... Defence is the most important thing in the playoff
And how about Colorado? or Tampa? Why are you hand-picking the only team that hasn't had a successful playoffs where as most teams that win cups have really good offense.

And even if you nitpick the Leafs. If you watched them play... except for Holl, it wasn't the defense that made them lose. They just weren't able to score enough goals. And it's been their problem for the longest time.

What should they do, add a 5th PPG forward?

Tampa and Colorado are examples of teams that had a really good defense to supplement their offense.

Tampa had Hedman, Cernak, McDonagh and Sergachev.
Colorado had Makar, Manson, Toews, and Byram.

IMO they're missing complementary forwards like what Lehkonen did for Colorado last season. Funnily enough, if they would have protected Jared McCann instead of Holl, they're probably in much better shape.

Leafs just have no depth outside of the top 4 (maybe Knies helps).

Btw, I'm not saying we should emulate the Leafs. Reinbacher is an amazing piece to have and he'd be the perfect fit for Hutson. I'm just saying I'm worried that our offense will dry if we can't find a stud offensive player somewhere else and I think that's a valid thought.

Have you seen Tampa this year with Hedman injured ? Not the same team and Cernak injury didn't help either.

They had a REALLY good top 4 with Hedman, McDonagh, Cernak, Sergachev

Colorado wasn't winning anything before Makar arrived.

And they had a REALLY good top 4 them too

Some teams have made it to the Final and even win the cup without a star forward but I don't remember a team winning it without a solid top 4 (Maybe CAR in 2006)

Guhle, Barron, Xhekaj, Harris, Struble, Hutson, Engstrom.

Let’s draft another D with the 5th overall in a deep forwards draft!

Jesus.
Don’t think it will happen. I mean, can’t be sure but…

It says they watched and liked him this year but the habs were around 6-7-8 for the draft before they started losing more near the end of the season. Now that they have the 5th pick their targets might have changed for the pick.

Your Brindley ranking really stands out as surprising to me, I've got him top 15. Certainly better than Mesar last year.

Let's say we get Dubois... Cole, Suzi, Dubois, Dach, Slaf should all be bonafide top 6 players who can be a part of a successful top line. One of Roy, Farrell, Heineman, Mesar, Kidney will become a top 6 player at least.

Our offensive forward depth is not as thin as we think. It's just like our defensive depth... lots of solid talent, but no superstar or #1 D.

If Reinbacher is a future #1 defensemen, we need him just as much as we need a Will Smith.

We need offence ffs.
Honestly we lack high end in almost every department.

I don't blame you for claiming a forward, but we aren't exactly overflowing with talent at D.

Lane Hutson fans would say he's Adam Fox 2.0, but I don't see him becoming a big minutes D if he even makes the NHL as a regular.

Who did I forget on the RD ?

I heard the same thing last year about center and the chance we draft one at 5 are low. You never know what the 2024 draft will look like
1- We have 8-9 credible D prospects for 6 spots and 6 forward prospects for 9 spots. One prospect per slot should be the aim of a rebuild; we're there with Ds. Of course, you want to upgrade quality - we're just clearly behind with forwards both in quantity and quality.

2- It's not low, Smith, Dvorsky are right where we draft and they are high-quality prospects.
Michkov is the exception who is for sure not a center in the top 6. Next year looks like this for Ds.

1- But most of them are LD and we have as much need for a Top 1 Forward then a top 1 Dmen

2- I don't think Smith is gonna be a center in the NHL and I prefer a futur 1st pair Dmen then a Top 6 C

Lane Hutson will be better than Adam Fox

Have you seen Tampa this year with Hedman injured ? Not the same team and Cernak injury didn't help either.

They had a REALLY good top 4 with Hedman, McDonagh, Cernak, Sergachev

Colorado wasn't winning anything before Makar arrived.

And they had a REALLY good top 4 them too

Some teams have made it to the Final and even win the cup without a star forward but I don't remember a team winning it without a solid top 4 (Maybe CAR in 2006)
I think both are true. Most teams have multiple star forwards and have a really good D core (the exception for both are St-Louis - no star forwards and Pitts in 2007 - no good defensemen).

Ideally we want both and the argument I'm trying to make is that I prefer having more offense and lacking defense vs having really good defense at the expense of offense.

Also FWIW, I don't think Reinbacher is a #1. I think he becomes a really good defensively sound #2 like Guhle does. Great skaters, has size, contributes offensively, but is not the dynamic star defenseman that you would ideally want.

You need to have both for sure with a good goalie and heavy forechecker
Pittsburgh had Gonchar and young Letang with solid big defensive Dmen in Scuderi/Gill/Orpik

I personally prefer having that solid top 4.
