The more I see and think about it, Reinbacher would be a good pick at 5 for us.
I disagree, not saying he’s bad but unless it’s a slam dunk like Makar or Heiskanen, you have to go offence with a top 5. Address defence later and we have a good/decent d prospect pool. Offence there’s not much scoring in the pipeline

Caufield/Suzuki/Dach/Slaf are already in the NHL and you have guys like Roy/Mesar/Farrell/Heineman.

On the RD we have: Barron already in the NHL and Mailloux in the pipeline.

We need as much a futur 1st pair Dmen (Especially a RD) then we need a high end talent on offence

If you think Reinbacher is a future #1D and not a fan of the other options, I guess I get the logic. I personally will be pretty annoyed though. Smells like KK all over again.

He would be a good pick and solidify the backend but I would be somewhat defeated if we didn't take a big time offensive producer if they were to be available and passed the vetting process. Mitchy, Smith, etc...

The #5 spot feels a bit early for Reinbacher, unless they really do see him becoming a Seider type at the next level (I don't quite see that personally). He's certainly in the mix though, if we want to go with a Dman he's pretty much the guy, he'll be long gone by the time we pick again.

I'd be really curious if Washington would be open to trading the 8 pick. Maybe a package centered around Anderson and the Florida 1st might work

If Hughes (Molson) don't want Michkov at 5 (and if he's there), you try to trade down for 1-2-3-4 spots (for another first round pick, or a high 2nd round pick), and take the BPA with those two.

Exemples :
Detroit 9th + 17th vs Montreal 5th
Philadelphia 7th + 1rst 2024 from Florida vs Montreal 5th
Arizona 6th + 38th + 2nd round pick from Montreal 2024 vs Montreal 5th

You just conveniently forgot 2/3 of our D prospect pool.

We need forwards unless the D is spectacular. Next year is very rich in Ds and very deep.

Who did I forget on the RD ?

I heard the same thing last year about center and the chance we draft one at 5 are low. You never know what the 2024 draft will look like

LotProkofievian take.

Hes one of the best skater in the draft, plays with an edge, has all the offensive tools you should want and he has a very high motor.

Hes literally the perfect undersized player.

Has all the offensive tools I should want, and 25 goals? No sir, does not add up. He's a better Cam Hillis.

Engstrom is a LH shot that prefers to play on the RHS.
Harris was decent there this year, and has room to grow.
Kovacevic is pretty much a perfect bottom pair guy with this contract.

While fragile, RHD need is greatly overblown.
We only need 3 "RHD1 or RHD2" prospects really, and I think we have something above league average in Barron, Mailloux, Engstrom.

The cost of lost opportunity (what we're leaving on the table) is likely going to be lower with a ~10oa pick next year.
You can't be GM and optimize your assets in the big picture by evaluating only a year at a time - actually you can if you have purple pants.

Reinbacher is a good, even great prospect.
However to me, it just smells like Hannifin vs all-star 2015 draft all over again.

Much better Cam Hillis. I agree hes not the best goalscorer but his shot is more than decent. Hes also a much, much better skater than Hillis ever was.

Reinbacher is actually a Tkachuk pick. Hes October, pretty much plug and play and still has massive potential. People are downplaying his tools jus like Brady.
