If MSL is in the scouting room like I read in a post on here I don't see how he doesn't vouch for him. He's exactly what he's been preaching since he's been hired.
For sure. Looking for a talented, game-breaking talent? Benson. Looking for a play-driver? Benson. Looking for a relentless and intense player? Benson. Looking for a player with one of the highest hockey sense in the last 5 drafts? Benson.
...
Looking for a player who's above 5'11? Not Benson. But sure, pick Smith if you really think he also fulfills all of the above.

That dere 1.5 centimeter difference.

Of this, there will be NO doubt,
People forget just how God awfully brutal it was around here last summer
It was civil war
So shall it be again
If they pass on Michkov we should all just form an alliance and hate on HuGo like we did post 2018.

The board will implode regardless of which player is taken by the Habs. Be it Michkov, Reinbacher or Leonard (or someone else).
Don't think that's the case. Picking who's perceived by many fans as not even the consensus top D in a forward heavy draft will not go over as well.

Picking Leonard might ruffle the 4 or 5 Benson/Dvorsky hipsters, but nothing more. As for Michkov fans, we are highly rational and expect the slide.

Looking for a tiny forward? Benson. Looking for a player who can't score from distance? Benson. Looking for a below average skater? Benson.

This works both ways. He is a good player but I would not be surprised at all to see him fall out of the top ten and I don't think Montreal has any intent on drafting the kid.

Benson is not a below average skater and, thats just bad evaluation on your part. He can also score from a distance as hes done many time.

Tiny as in Bedard-sized? Tiny as in 1.5 inch smaller than Smith but plays much bigger than him? Where do you draw the line?

Not scoring from distance is fair, although it is something that he can definitely improve, plus it doesn't mean he can't score in different ways.

Below average skating is just plain wrong.

Will Montreal draft him? Probably not, you're right. Will it be a mistake? Very likely.

Man, deep down I hope these are all smoke screens and Benson's the pick. Probably my favorite prospect of the last 5 years with Byram and Perfetti. Also the only player who can legitimately be picked over Michkov imo.
Dude are yiou a family member of something? Jesus Christ

Benson won't even go top 10.

It’s michkov or smith unless carlsson falls to the 5th spot - high end talent vs center depth.
I bet the Canadians management is not convinced that Dach is a legit 2 way center ice man
and is better on the wing. Thus the need for another high end center prospect.
1. Michkov or smith
1. Right defense or another center
2. Goaltender - ie hrabel
3. Center ice depth

He can do those things, but can he do them at a high enough level to play a PP1 in the NHL? That is the question.

Just look at our organization, does he play the PP1 over a Hutson? A Mailloux? No. He probably plays PP2 with Guhle…
Your post creates other interesting questions.

1- Will Mailloux fix his defensive weaknesses to be a viable NHL d-man?
2- Will Hutson learn to skate backwards well enough to, you know, actually play his position in the NHL?
3- Currently, who do you think has a higher bust factor? Mailloux and Hutson, or Reinbacher?

He’s an agile skater, but he has very limited ability to create separation off the rush. He won’t be beating NHL defenders with his skating.

Leonard gives me Zach Hyman vibes. He definitely played the Hyman role on his line. Are the Habs really going to use a 5th overall pick to draft Zach Hyman?

I have little doubt he will. Hes a better skater than Caufield right now and he still has growth to go through. His edges really are great and to call him a below average skater is just a complete fallacy.

Every time this team does something right (actually setting themselves up for a rebuild), they follow it up by shooting themselves in the foot (passing on Michkov). Can't wait until he comes over and becomes a PPG player. The egg on HuGo's faces should be massive and everlasting.
Technically, the egg would be on every GM's faces from the 2nd spot until the spot he is chosen.
Singling out and blaming only Hughes screams "hidden agenda" more to me

In 3 years we could be an entirely different looking team, and possibly for the better hopefully (we will)
Don't let this get you down too hard bud

Fantilli, Carlsson and Smith at least have super high offensive ceilings. They could be somewhat justified. I'd be cool with Leonard at 7/8 but as it stands I don't see anyone on this team (or prospect pool) capable of hitting PPG or 100pts. You draft those players and it's going to be hard to do down the line when we get closer towards playoff contention.

Leo and Adam have high potential too, thats the difference.

And were Habs fans.

He skates like Gallagher with that awkward forward lean and no top end speed. He may very well improve that and he may improve his shot but he has way too many question marks and there just aren't any examples of small guys with both skating and shooting issues in today's NHL that are worthy of going top ten in a stacked draft. I personally hope he succeeds because he has a huge heart and plays the game the right way but I wouldn't gamble with a top 10 pick in this years draft on him.

OMG! If only I had a dollar for every time I saw a quote that begins with "If they don't Michkov..." and finishes with something along the lines of I'm done with HuGo or I'm done with this team.
