Nice thread on Dvorsky. He reiterates what @WeThreeKings has been saying for a while now - that there’s an issue from a lack of dynamic skills. He’s more of a finisher than someone who transitions the puck up the ice. Average agility limits him. Good two-way play but if you’re picking 5th in a strong draft, he shouldn’t be an option.

I don't think I have seenthat comparison before, but to me his most likely upside is a guy like Bo Horvat.

I've seen many suggest that he could play the half wall on the PP with his shot, but I see him much more as a bumper guy a la Tavares/Horvat. Solid player, just not a creator/difference maker, even on the PP where he should become a specialist.

Dvorsky is a very solid prospects in he has top 6C upside. Big important player.

But there is an important cut-off in talent in my opinion after the big 5.

Dvorsky should be in consideration at 6-7 with the other tier of prospects (Benson, Leonard, Reinbacher, Wood, etc.) But at 5 we have to aim for the top dogs.

If we pass on Michkov for one of these guys, better hope he don't comes or that the player you pick is a star cause it will f***ing bite us in the ass.

I mean he could be a good option for a teams that have already an elite forward who can control the game, but that's not the case with the Habs. We don't have that player that can dictate the tempo of the game and it's our better chance to get one
He’s basically a worse skating Shane Wright and the team didn’t even want Shane last year.

Winning the lotto, or moving up to No. 2, would have meant zero tension, all joy, in the leadup to draft day.

Falling back to 7? I suspect Reinbacher would be the guy, but, some hefty tension for sure.

Instead, there’s plenty of tension. The draft way more often than not has been a source of angst.

Like a moth to the campfire, though, here I am, wishin’ and a prayin’ the dominoes fall in fine fashion.

I don’t like the odds.

One thing for sure, I'm 100% confident with management. They have a really great draft in 2022. They go with a player I really like Slafkovsky at 1, they go with Beck, they go with Hutson. Mesar is still a talented prospect. I'm 100% confident they will go with a really good hockey player. Smith, Carlsson or Michkov can be available. If they love work ethic + talent, Benson and Leonard are solid pick aswell. Don't underrated both, they are 1st line players potential aswell. I really like them!

I hate #5, there is not a TOP 5 , it's a TOP 4 .
Smith as nothing to do with the other 4

How does Smith not belong in the top 5 didnt he brake Cooley & Caufield's record? kid is very talented but he does need to be better defensively
Stats are just one thing. He played in one of the weakest U18 division in recent memory.

Perrault is the one that has the record, actually.

Smith didnt separare himself from Benson and Reinbacher

Better start calling me Rose, cause I'm team Leo all the way now! He's everything we were hoping to get with Kotkaniemi, except with a much better natural toolbox. Great advance stats and pro projection, lots of Nick Backstrom parallels. Smith is flashier but Carlsson is the one we need.

I'd be really interested to see if Washington who can only go all in with the core they have, would trade the 8 OA pick for Anderson, Mesar (etc), and the Florida 1st

Dvorsky is pretty good at lugging the puck up ice. We saw it plenty at the U18s, and I saw it in Allsvenskan. What he has to improve is his speed and acceleration. He sorta solves his way through the neutral zone (which is nice), but doesn't blow right past fools. Makes his life more difficult.

habs say no, too much of an overpay, besides washington is the team in win now with ovi mode
That's why. Habs need to shed as much cap as possible before the 2024 FA. Anderson needs to go and he's definitely the type of player Washington loves. But Anderson needs a sweetener to get the 8th pick

I challenge Hughes and his men to find me an equal talent at 5 if Michkov is available. Unless that other talent is Bedard who drops, we're picking Michkov.
I have a feeling they will too (if he's there). As good as some of our forward prospects appear, none of them project as first liners.
