Mamamia literally the best draft i could think off. Insane value.
New Sweden connection !

I tried to pick different type of player even if some players doesn't have the higher celling like Dylan MacKinnon who I think would be a great value pick in the 4th round. Tried to get bigger and faster

I got speed with Sawchyn, Sorum, Vote, Willander

I got skills with Carlsson, Sawchyn, Sorum, Willander

I got physicality with Suniev, Xhekaj, Mann, MacKinnon

I got size with Carlsson, Walhberg, Suniev, Levis, Xhekaj, Mann , MacKinnon

And I got my 2 good goalies prospect with Hrabal and Clara

Grier said that the contract on Michkov isn't a limiting factor for them.

They need some time to transition out of bad contracts, too.

Please, please, please.

There's no way Habs pass on Carlsson if he's there....right?

Bedard, Michkov, Carlsson, Smith and Fantilli…just pick whoever is left at 5 and you’ll be happy. Should be easiest pick in the draft after Bedard at #1
Montreal can't make anything easy.

I would never want someone to get hurt but Carlsson getting sick or something and missing the WC would be a god send. He's going to play himself way out of our draft range.

Yeah, Michkov's timeline is perfect for SJS. They have a lengthy rebuild ahead of them because of so many immovable long term contracts.

Even in 3 years, there's 2 years left on Couture & Karlsson's contract and a year left on Vlasic. 4 years for Hertl.

They'll still have Martin Jones buyout for 2 more years too.

But, Michkov plays in Russia for 3 years. Then they sign him to a contract that final year to waste a year of ELC leaving them with 2 years ELC.

By the end of that 2 years every contract will be done except for Hertl. They can build around Michkov, Bystedt, Mukhamadullin, Eklund plus their future 1st round picks.

They also have a ton of Russians in North America already.

Would you trade all of our picks in the draft for Carlsson?

I think I would if Michkov is out and Smith goes 3.

4 for 5 + 30 + 37 etc

I'm just hoping CBJ loves Smith (as reported) and SJS loves Michkov (doubtful with their roster)

I know people don't like Button, but I think he made a good point.

I forgot his exact quote, but he basically said if you're afraid to wait 3 years for Michkov, you're afraid to draft pretty much any prospect. Someone with better memory might remember the full quote, or find it.
The thing is his contract is NOT what scares teams.

Let's examine some potential fits of the group we're looking at.

Dubois-Carlsson-Suzuki
Slafkovsky-Dach-Caufield

Dubois-Suzuki-Smith
Slafkovsky-Dach-Caufield

Dubois-Suzuki-Caufield
Michkov-Dach-Slafkovsky

Slafkovsky-Suzuki-Caufield
Dubois-Dach-Benson

Guhle-Mailloux
Hutson-Reinbacher
That's better ;)

Button says Reinbacher isn't the best d, he says ASP and Wallinder are better.

Says his 2 top goalies are Bjarnsson and Hrabal.

Compares it to Cossa and Wallstedt in terms that they might go "early" and "fast'

Normal, David Reinbacher wasn't at the U18 or at Hillinka-Gretzky and wasn't playing in a good team at the WJC. Button based a big part of his evaluation on those tournament since he cover them and he's the analyst in those games.

If the 2 goalies go early that's OK. It means two forwards drop. This is a deep draft for goalies, and there are quite a few that I like.

Carlsson’s stutter probably makes him a no draft for some team ahead of the Habs

Yeah, Button is really all about what have you done recently.

Very true. Get another solid forwards or dman somewhere

We are guaranteed to have the opportunity to draft one of Carlsson, Michkov or Smith with Dvorsky imo being next in the queue if we pass on Michkov. It is not Bedard but we have a very real opportunity to potentially draft a player who would have went #1OA last year.

I am all for combining FLA's pick and our second to move up into the high teens as this draft has a steep drop off in the late 1st and 2nd round. Last years 25-60 was far superior to this year's 25-60 imo.

I would also look to do that. We have quite a bit of depth, need high end talent.

I'm looking at the SJ-ARI trade last year for the Connor Geekie pick. 11 for 27, 34 and 45.

We could maybe go for something like that 29 + 37 + . Maybe a team like Pittsburgh with pick 14 and very little depth in their prospect pool.

Nice thread on Dvorsky. He reiterates what @WeThreeKings has been saying for a while now - that there’s an issue from a lack of dynamic skills. He’s more of a finisher than someone who transitions the puck up the ice. Average agility limits him. Good two-way play but if you’re picking 5th in a strong draft, he shouldn’t be an option.

And then grab Matthew Wood. Go for the upside.

I mean he could be a good option for a teams that have already an elite forward who can control the game, but that's not the case with the Habs. We don't have that player that can dictate the tempo of the game and it's our better chance to get one
