I don’t think most people want a defensive shut down forward at 5OA. They expect a serious offensive producer.

I kind of understand that Grant and others that like Slafkofsky might also be impressed by Dvorsky’s performance and numbers because they are even more impressed by Slafkofsky‘s performance. They followed the same path playing for Team Slovakia and in Scandinavia. Except Slafkofsky looked better and produced better offensively. But Dvorsky while inferior followed close behind.

i don’t understand posters that think Slafkofsky might be offensively challenged and Dvorsky might not.

He's not a defensive shutdown forward lol. Imagine if Danault could convert...that's Dvorsky and he will have a lot more offence than Slaf on his own. But Slaf with someone like Dvorksy strives because it addresses his weaknesses and it's the type of play-making that works with Slaf.

Look at the U18 they played together...

My list at 5 based on what I've read and highlight videos + some U-18 play.

So, I take into account probability based on the number of mocks/ Rankings I've seen both from "professional" and people here and other amateurs sites. No, not those ones....

1) - Matvei Michkov.

Guy has elite skill. Skill that easily rivals Bedard. They're only real comparison was a U-18 tournament and Michkov out produced him, but that's just looking at stats as I wasn't able to watch that one. If he (Michkov) was 6'3 and still this skilled, I imagine him going 1st overall despite his contract would still be likely. Worst case, he'd go 2nd. He's not, so the habs have a chance for him to drop to 5th and that skill you can't realistically pass up on.

2) Ryan Leonard

Has maybe underrated skill that some give him. He isn't as skilled as his teammate, Will Smith, but he's not slouch. Has a nice release and plays the games as a whole and brings much more to the game than just offense. The potential of having a skilled forward that plays hard like T.J. Oshie, Filip Forsberg, or maybe a little less Gabriel Landeskog is a nice prospect to add.

3) Will Smith.

Name alone should have him going 1st overall, but he just dominated the U-18 and the USNTDP. He beat records set by some really good NHLers, so it's very likely he will go on to be a very good NHLer. Solid size at 6', maybe if the habs draft him they feed him some radioactive pre-workout and he goes a few inches. Would not be disappointed with this selection.

4) David Reinbacher

Everything about him sounds like the potentially perfect piece to add to the potential future dcore of the habs. Like pretty much the others, he's had a season where his point totals are better than what current NHL studs had put up at a similar age. Potential to be a future number 1 dman, but it seems some publications are souring a bit on him because of ASP's U-18 while Reinbacher, who played for a low end hockey country didn't put the points in a much harder tournament for 17/18 year-olds.

In my opinion, if you take Reinbacher at 5, it's the potential of looking like a genius like Yzerman who took Seider at 6th I believe when he wasn't even in that area really, more like 10th+, or it backfires and you get questioned. It's not like it's taking Smith, who seems to be unanimously ranked close to 5 with whispers he could go as high as 3 and he busts.

5) Leo Carlsson

Big centre with skill and a lot to like. He's 5th as it seems it's unlikely he's there at 5. Columbus/San Jose would have to like Smith and Michkov more, or potentially someone else.

Would be a great day to get a player like that at 5th, but I wouldn't hold your breat.

4 weeks and about 8 hours until the habs select.

Way too long.

Did a little mock draft using a Draft Simulator. Forgot about this site...used it a ton last year.

I picked the top 4 as....

Chicago - Bedard
Anaheim - Fantilli
Columbus - Carlsson
San Jose - Smith

Every other pick except ours were selected by the simulator. Here is what I ended up with.

How did I do?

Here is the link if you want to play around!

My draft from draft sim.

5) Leo Carlsson
31st) Daniil But
37th) Danny Nelson
69th) Anton Wahlberg
101) Nico Myatovic
110) Felix Unger Sorum
128) Yegor Sidorov
133) Jacob Fowler
144) Cole Burbridge
165) Austin Roest
197) Spencer Sova

With getting Leo Carlsson I figured the habs could take a homerun attempt with But. Habs get some size in their pool that has skill, too.

Dvorsky isn’t half the skater Danault is and isn’t nearly as tenacious. It’s not a good comparison.

Still waiting for Puljujarvi to surpass teammates Aho and Laine, who he was clearly better than in the U20, since that’s apparently indicative of future success.

Bonk late 1st?

Watched a bit of London Knights this is crazy to me. Bloodlines I guess..
I watched Bonk a ton this year and was always really impressed with his high IQ and attention to detail. Once he's on that first pairing with Dickinson next year his offensive numbers will explode. Needs to work on his shot, but otherwise checks off an awful lot of boxes.

Danault wasn't half the skater he is now at 17
Dvorsky is more tenacious than Danault at the same age by a mile, Danault wasn't stopping the top line at the WJC at 17.

Very good comparison.

I didn't make that argument at all. I was talking specifically about Dvorsky and Slaf.

Not to derail, but what was there to hate in Jiris case? I dont exactly recall what happened with him.

My guess is that they thought he was one dimensional as a shooter, and that he didn't look all that great in Extraliga. For some reason our central euro scout had Mesar ahead of him, and there was a 14 player gap between them for me.

Do But, Haltunnen, Ritchie and Wahlberg?

Yeah, add Edström as well.

For some 6'4, oops I actually mean 6'3 reason, yea.

NP confirmed size queen tho
