Marc Denis on radio -

Nick Suzuki was asking John Sedgwick about who they are going to draft. Wouldn't give him anything much but that they've narrowed it down to a few names.

Marc Denis said he hasn't heard anything outside of the top 5 and then mentioned Benson, Leonard and Reinbacher.

How does he not go 1st? Cooley before? No. Nemec and Jiricek are on par with Reinbacher from what I gather. That leaves Slaf. My guess is that teams prefer a more known quantity in Smith coming in from an A+ program in USNDP. It’s measurable, Slaf was hard to project coming in from reduced playing time in Finland and weird ass teams in OG and WC.
Not so sure Smith would go #1 last year, Logan Cooley wasn’t #1 and they are pretty comparable

It’s one of those years where I am a fan of a lot of guys out of the top-5. There’s half a dozen guys that are IMO in the same ballpark and could go anywhere depending on club preference, Unfortunately a 5OA this season is an extremely steep price to pay. It would be a different story if our pick was say 8OA to 12OA.

Denis with the big scoop here. So everyone we think and name and debate... Just minus Dvorsky.

you only looked at a 2 week tournament what about hes season with TPS he had 10 points everyone knows Slafkovsky went 1st because of hes size matter fact when Knuckles asked Gorton who he was picking 1st Jeff told him we need to get bigger

Juraj is a beast which can help in the NHL ( hopefully for us ) but talent wise no hes not better then Smith Slafkovsky went #1 on a weak draft but this one is very strong one of the best
Slaf is a beast, Smith might be more skilled but regardless of draft strength Slaf in term of accomplishment and package he in the same tier as Fantilli, Carlsson and Smith.

Suzuki had 66 points under terrible circumstances in 2 half of the season. Give him CC, Dach (or PLD) and Matheson for full season and I definitely expect him to be PPG player.
Just slightly improve our PP and he will be PPG. Michkov, Benson or Smith are not even NHL ready and you alredy see them as PPG. Does not make any sense.
Until Suzuki ACTUALLY hits 70 points, he's just the new Plekanec to me.

Physically yes he his but talent wise he has alot to prove and no hes not in the same tier as Fantilli,Carlsson and Smith those guys all have ppg/100pts potentiel Slaf was never viewed has a ppg player just a top 6 winger with size ( wich is still rare ) but they are complete opposite players Juraj first needs to learn how to keep hes head up and use hes size hes bigger then 90% of the NHL and we barely saw it but hes only 18 so plenty of time to learn i like him as a prospect but no he wont be better then the 2023 top 5

Super interesting Michkov discussion with the Habs. FF to 21:10.
I’ll summarize the key points here so it’s not verbatim but Eric Engels essentially says Habs brass, whose he’s spoken to, know that Michkov will come after 3 years and they recognize Michkovs talent and need to interview him to see if he has the character and ability/humility to learn so they can assess whether he’ll continue to improve with them: if not, they’ll take the player who will improve and get better over the next 3years, even if Michkov is better now.

So those interviews will be key and Engels also says that with Bobrov in play (his dad too who works for Ska), they have a leg up when it comes to access to Michkov.

True. I think Smith is more projectable for this reason, the moves are more ''full body'' even if Cristall dummies defenders regularly. The passes he comes up with are more out of the box, too. But there are fewer of them.

Cristall is a turnover machine and needs to do some serious work on his skating. Smith is bigger, faster and a better shooter. Cristall is the "skateboarder" of this draft as he has a lot of cute tricks that impress the kids but will have to gain more projectable skills if he wants to be successful as an adult.
