What did Kent say? I missed it.
He basically said that they are going to really dig in and investigate the situation. Said if it’s between Michkov and similarly talented player they’d probably go the other way, but if Michkov is the best player on the board… said they wouldn’t not take him if everything checks out.

Grier said his contract is not a factor for them and Hughes said that if a similarly talented player is available they will go with him instead. Doesn't sound like Hughes is open to him.
Will there be a similarly talented player on the board though? Is Bedard falling as well? I took that to say they wouldn’t take him first overall but seemed to me that he didn’t close the door on taking him at 5 at all.

The fact that they said if he is tied with another player in terms of talent Michkov would not be picked due to other reasons is awfully confusing given how Michkov being significantly more talented than anyone not named Bedard is what's keeping him so high up on lists.

I think they included Smith, Carlsson and Fantilli there, in the sense that all three could be All-Stars and franchise players. The risk and reward ratio might not be advantageous in that case. When you get to Dvorsky though ? Completely different story. You're looking at a potential top 6 center - you take the potential generational winger in that scenario.

Sounds like he's in a grouping with smith and carlsson. It's refreshing to hear that if he's there at 5.

I just listened to it, sounds like he would've seriously considered him @ # 2. I like that.

Well clearly we won't get to choose between Bedard/Fantilli/Carlsson/Smith + Michkov so I took it as meaning another player like Reinbacher and/or Dvorsky.

Dammit. Tanked the wrong frickin year. What a joke. Some joke of a franchise in the states gets the best. Just bull crap.
not surprised with chicago moving up, history is there with American markets ,rangers drafting 1 and 2, than the devils the same, habs only moved up in 2005 when everyteam was in the lottery, glad it was not arizona, expected the flyers to move up as well just to knock the habs down while benefitting the nhl's preferred country .

In which case I think we all agree Michkov would be more talented, so to me sounded like he’d consider him- as long as their homework checks out.

Really like what I'm reading for Will Smith, which has a good chance of being our pick since Michkov will probably be off the board at 5.

I'm reading a two-way smart center who has first line projection, low risk and a good scorer too. High IQ.

There is nothing two-way about Will Smith at the moment. His defensive game is as existant as Jadas hair.

He plays NHL next season?
Id wait a year, but he is more NHL ready than Smith thats for sure.

Going off scout reports, and Button who said he was good in his zone and could play PK. I never saw the kid play once. Maybe you are right.
