Interesting hearing Hughes say how a team like tampa drafted based on skill and hockey sense, and later made changes to add size/competitiveness as “finishing touches” to put them over the top. Says they want the most talented hockey player regardless of size.
Sounds like Michkov.

Michkov has significant red flags (not just the Russian and contract). He is a big time floater and he does not play any defense at all.

Wtf red flags. Kid scored 12 goals in 7 games as a 16 y old at U18 and now we are caring about his defense?

If he floats and scores 50, that's good enough for me.

You can teach defense, not that level of skills.

Michkov all the way for me.

Montreal will
Be left with Carlson or Mitchkov. Smith will go 2, 3 or 4 to the American team. No way an American team picks the Russian.

So I think this is the order

Bedard
Smith (or Fantilli )
Fantilli (or smith )
Carlson
Canadians will pick ???

Good evening all. Boo this. Boo.

Let me make my prediction.

Chicago - Bedard - becomes a Patrick Kane type player.

Anaheim - Fantilli - Quinton Byfield version 2.0

Columbus - Michkov - Bure redux

San Jose - William Carllson - say hello to Lias Anderson

Habs - Will Smith - no way in hell Hughes doesn't pick him at this point if the above 4 is as above. Smith becomes a Mike Modano level talent.

Enjoy everyone. That is my top 5 prediction and those are my projections.
No way an American team passes on smith

Good.

I'd love to have that type of RHD anchor.

In case you haven't been watching the play-offs.. defenseman make a huge impact.
It really surprises me how many people don't actually understand playoff hockey. You mainly win by making the least amount of mistakes and being able to capitalize on one's the other team makes not creating offence to score (unless it's on the PP). Having shut down two way D who can eat minutes like it's nobodys business is just as valuable as having a first line player

Dvorsky doesnt have the same offensive potential and defensively they should be similar.

Benson is one of the smartest player in the draft, hes an awesome playmaker. Always in the right spot, always at the right moment. Puck follows him around and hes a maniac on the forecheck.

Dvorsky has an insane shot, better than Benson (much better) but he doesnt bring anything dynamic.
Benson has average skating, small and a bit soft. He does have very high IQ and skills though.

So why didn't this apply to last year when Slaf is a significantly less talented prospect than Michkov and Jiricek showed more than Reinbacher?

Oh my summary was a general statement not an indictment on any certain prospect. I had Slaf at 4 and Jiricek at 5 last year so either one was good for me. But Jiricek is more offensive than a shutdown D who can provide offense. Michkov should be the only target for the Habs if he falls to 5. That's assuming they are content with his answers in the interviews

If you notice in the playoffs, the cup champions #1 dman can provide offense just as much as defense. I don't disagree that a guy like Reinbacher wouldn't be helpful. But a guy with the potential to have a Kucherov/Mack impact is worth way more than a primarily shutdown dman.
