He's not lying though and I think most understand that.

Perimeter hockey doesn't win you cups. Pucks in deep, win the battle on the boards, own the front of the net....that's been the stable of playoff hockey for decades. You need a good balance but if players aren't willing to sacrifice their bodies to get to the tough areas, you aren't winning anything.

Hard work beats talent unless talent works hard.

I mean that's the reality buddy...

McJesus can't get through 5 players for a highlight real goal in the PO unfortunately

Matthews can't just coast and wait for a pass for an open net anymore...

He’s got a quick release but he’s not a guy who will beat a goalie from distance with his shot. When you’re smol you kind of need that otherwise defenders will back off of you. I can’t think of many small players who couldn’t beat goalies from distance who were really good- it’s kind of a requirement for a top end small player.

And with you on Leonard. Anyone expecting Tkachuk from him will be very disappointed. He’s more of an all around winger than a Tkachuk. Going back a ways, but Chris Higgins like when Higgins looked like he would be good- that’s my Habs comp for Leonard lol
Higgins was never that good offensively and certainly not as physical.

The only comparable I have for Leonard is a faster Dustin Brown.

When i read that there is no Michkov and 25 Reinbacher in the NHL. I understand the point of Pronman, but on the other hand...

How many Bedard in the NHL, how many McDavid, how many Makar?

Isnt that one quality of the greatest of the greatest? Being a unique player with a unique skillset.
Yeah the best of the best aren’t just efficient but uniquely capable at special things. Like it’s “their” secret/special ability or weapon.

I didn't skirt it at all. You just don't do nuance, been there before.

I think Dvorsky is better than Wright, I think Wright might be a cheap and durable 2nd center behind Beniers. In a cap world, it's not always about going for the best talent - it's about building a team. If Seattle is rebuilding, yeah I do the trade. In the current situation, I'm not entirely sure if cap space is not more valuable than the delta between the 2 players (not significant, assuming Wright doesn't self-implode).

The real question you wanted to ask is: if you are the habs, and you can pick between the two players who do you pick: Dvorsky - I'm 65% confident, it's not a slam dunk because both have things to figure out. Clear enough?

Who do you pick and why? And how confident are you about it?
I didn’t ask who you would pick I asked if Seattle would make the trade. Of course not, because Wright is better and considered better. No team would make that trade since Wright has the same characteristics as Dvorsky but can actually skate. And most GMs were taking Slaf ahead of Wright.

Not sure I completely agree but I'd take a Brown in his prime on my team any day of the week!

That guy was a truck out there and a major factor in those Kings Cups.

He was playing in Russia before September too. Nothing has changed on that front.

The quote about him being #2 was from September...when Cam Allen was #1 D and #8 overall. Things change during the draft cycle. Some players go up and some players go down. As I mentioned, Sept to June is an eternity.
All he did between Sept to June was set every record for a draft eligible Russian, beating out the likes of Ovi and Kaprisov. Sounds like his production really fell off a cliff... :sarcasm:

To be honest we don't know enough about Hughes to doubt our picks. Hutson last year for example looks like a free top 5 pick. Even if we don't draft Michkov I will give this group a couple years to wait and see before being bitter just like I gave Bergevin a few years.

We definitely don't regret not drafting Zadina.
Hutson was an easy pick, they fanned on super easy picks like Kulich and Firkus too. Dont cut him slack because he made the easiest pick in draft history.
Gotta go with Ryan Leonard if you want to continue adding to that group of "Chads" with Slafkovsky.

He is the chad. Love him and wouldve loved to have another top 10 pick for him.é

The only difference between Bedard and Michkov is the place they were born, its typical russo-phobia by the NHL. One is labelled as a generational cant miss talent with no flaws and the other has all these flaws.
Kucherov is the only example out there and from the reports I get Michkov is not this cerebral PP monster that can pass the puck like no one else in the league...

We'll see I guess...
Michkov literally is one of the most cerebral player ever, you clearly need to pick up the remote.

The more I watch Hutson, the more I think he needs to play with a pure stay at home guy to maximize his potential- like a Chariot or Kovasevic. If the idea is for Reinbacher to be his partner, I think that would be a waste because Hutson is so offensively minded, whoever he’s playing with has to be ultra conservative.

Ya kind of makes an argument against Reinbacher… guys like Reinbacher are fairly easy to find. With a 5th pick you want to get a guy who’s rare.

Its a blend of both that win you games. Kucherov and Kane come to mind. 5 cups in the past 10 years between the two as best players on their respective teams.

A certain Lafleur would also like a word.

You can’t draft guys based on partnerships. Things change so much from year to year. It’s how you end up with Jarred Tinordi.

Hutson will join the team in a year. You’d likely want a veteran to be with him for 1-2. You’re looking at 3-4 years down the road.

They still lost got bounced in the first round... Wild is the Leafs of the West...
7 goals in 6 games, you just flat out lied saying he’s not getting it done. It’s not his fault his team sucks outside of him. Saying you don’t want a Kaprizov when he has proven to be a beast in the playoffs because of one run is one of the worst takes I have ever seen on this forum.

You question Michkovs brains when it’s his best asset. You want more examples of small player succeeding because you ignore the ones people have already brought up? Marchessault is another one. To blame Kaprizov who is single-handedly keeping his outside the bottom 10 is a so wrong that it speaks volume about what you know on this situation.

You find guys that end up what Reinbacher is projected to be in the late 1st Round or early 2nd Round. Sure it’s great to get a player like that.

Getting Michkov at 5OA is like Haley’s Comet. Might come once in a lifetime.

There's an abundance of right handed defenseman with size who can skate, transition the puck in the face of pressure, support the offense with a heavy shot while also providing high value defensively?
