Seravalli: Buffalo may not have a choice but to trade Peterka

Most extensive retool I’ve ever seen, then. Seriously, name another that compares.

My god..........look up the definition of rebuild and retool in hockey...........Jim Benning for years tried to do this. When they sell actual players like Fox or Miller then you can call it a rebuild.........Rebuild is purposely tanking for a season or 2...........The Rangers are not doing that (even thou it might seem like that). They are retooling - Big big BIG difference here........

I get what you are saying, but Hagel probably has the best contract in the league and could be a 100points player at a 6.5M AAV for the next 7 years. He also has a ton of grit, masterful PK player.
If we wanna extend our window, we gotta find other "Hagels" to add to the one we already have, not trade him away.

I agree with you tho, Peterka is kind of a bizarre target because we already have 2 clear cut top6 LW.
Can Peterka play RW?
It’s bizarre for JBB to bark up this tree unless he’s got a fleece job lined up somehow or unless he’s cooking something else up. But TB pro scouts are batting pretty much 0.800. They hit a lot more than they miss. I’m with you on Hagel. He’s a beauty on an amazing deal.

When the most valuable player in their transactions is someone they acquired(Miller) and the most valuable asset moved out is a 1st, it’s beyond bizarre someone can view that as re-building.

First he said he would get traded by the deadline…now he’s getting traded by the draft (despite there being several reasons that deadline is asinine for this player)…

If JJ is still in Buffalo after next weekend can we stop putting any stock into what Frank Seravelli has to say on the subject?
Friedman says Buffalo doesn’t want to trade him but they’re listening to offers and the situation has absolutely changed per 32 thoughts a few days ago. EF is basically the gold standard

To be fair didn’t that happen before the rangers totally fell apart lol? And tbh I bet if Drury could trade that contract to San Jose he would lol
No matter how the season went, Shestyorkin was staying. He is the backbone you build around. The reason the Rangers & GM Drury are interested in a winger like Peterka is because they need to find someone with point potential up front once Panarin is gone in a year. Mike Sullivan also has a taste for speedy/crafty wingers.

Rangers are in on Nečas for this reason as well.

They prob have a better shot at Necas. Buffalo seems to want proven NHL commodities who are good now and still have some room to run. Rangers don’t really have any guys like that that aren’t untouchable

Problem for CBJ might be that their established NHL talents are too valuable to give up for Peterka (or not worth it) and Buffalo doesn’t want prospects or futures anymore I don’t think
Buffalo does not want more prospects. This month we saw 2 F prospects not sign with buffalo. One was europe and digned as a UFA, the other i think re-enter the draft. I think both saw not much of a chance in buffalo

If Buffalo signs peteeka, mcleod, and tuck to 5+ yrs contracts. Thompson and norris already on one...that's 5 of top 9 on long term

The only hole is in RD in NHL ready prospects. They have drafted a few over the pasf few years in strbak, mcCarthy , and Kleber.all 3 are in NCAA. Thesr were 2,3,w round picks. And they could draft a RD in their top pick

They need that mid pair RD bridge to those prospects who might be 2-3 yrs away

They could ask for future picks beyond 25 draft for trade bait

You can say that about any player due a new contract. Everyone calks others

Buffalo has his control for 4 more years. There is no pressure to trade him. They will likely match an OS of 1-2-3 comp. They might not for those of 4 1sts or 1-1-2-3 comp. That probably is the benchmark of an asking price. Hed not being moved for a 1st and a prospect like what Fiala, Reinhart, Nuchevick got moved for ( they were all RFAs with 1 yr of team control).

And makes Tampa a worse team. Cirelli is morr valuable to Tampa in terms of positional need.
Thought that initially but don’t know if that’s the case especially in the long run. Guentzel can play center, Gourde can play center, Geekie can play center, and we have Point and Paul already.

Yes Peterka can play RW. He actually prefers that side (while his best friend Quinn is listed as a RW but prefers to play LW).

Also if you gave Cirelli powerplay time his stats would go up but he doesn’t really ever get any shifts

Or maybe if Cirelli were worth a damn on the PP, he’d be getting those minutes in Tampa. Dude is a ~40 point player who rode Hagel’s coattails to an anomalous level of production last year. He’s great defensively, but odds are Peterka will outscore him by 25+ points going forward (if they’re both healthy).

Friedman is a well-documented bullshit artist when it pertains to the Sabres. No one is plugged in to the Sabres. It's all secondhand information from Agents and teams who deal with them.
