If Murray was still here I feel like I’d bet my life savings on him picking Leo. With PV I’m not quite as sure, but I do think we end up making teams look silly with Fantilli

I hope the WC brings clarity and Fantilli dominates, firmly establishing himself as the #2 pick. It’s a bit psychological, but I want it to feel like the gap is as wide as possible between Fantilli and the rest.

I fear Carlsson outplays/outscores Fantilli and there is a jumble between guys 2-4/5.

alright I have to ask the more knowledgable posters on this..

what are the chances we get Byfielded with Fantilli?
No amount of knowledge can make an accurate call on this. Fantilli has some definite issues in his game but most of them are coachable. The question becomes how willing is Fantilli to dedicate himself to work on those problem spots when he can just as easily hang his hat on the fact that the way he plays let him lead the NCAA in scoring as a Freshman, an extraordinarily rare feat?

I think objectively speaking Fantilli is faster and has better vision and and offensive zone IQ than Byfield seemed to. And he always seems hungry to impact the game on the ice whether it's with or without the puck. And that lends to a player that serves a wide range of utilities even if he doesn't end up a top level superstar offensively.

I think Fantilli should be the pick, but would be very tempted by Michkov. He'll probably slide to someone like the Pens or Caps and tear it up there.

Great article on The Athletic about Fantilli. TLDR he will be fine.

He knew that Adam was going to be a hockey player by minor bantam not because of his talent — “he’s never been naturally gifted with a natural skill set, it is something that he has worked at,” he’ll say — but because whenever he was challenged with something negative, he’d do everything within his power to turn it into a positive.

When D’Ammizio told him, “You know, Adam, you’ve got a powerful stride and you can skate fast but you’re not a great skater, you’re not very smooth,” he took it upon himself to reach out to Dawn Braid, one of the game’s preeminent skating coaches, and work until it was one of his biggest strengths.

When D’Ammizio told him, “You know, Adam, you need to improve on your shot, you’re not getting your shot off fast enough, you don’t have a very good one-timer,” Adam responded “OK, no problem,” and has spent every day since shooting pucks and turning his release and one-timer into strengths.

When D’Ammizio told him, “You know, Adam, you’re having success right now because you’re physically stronger than everybody, not because you’re more skilled or smarter, you need to work on being smarter,” Adam responded, “Oh yeah, OK, let’s do video, let’s watch all my games, let’s watch other people.”

“He went to an eye doctor so that he could help his peripheral vision. He’s reading numbers off the screen to help his peripheral vision,” D’Ammizio said, laughing. “And he has done that throughout his life and he’ll continue doing that. He’ll just find a way.”

fedorov wasn't terrible in anaheim, but he was certainly a disappointment in what was a disappointing season for the ducks overall in 03-04. and yes, he was partying it up at the beach all season long

i forget which podcast it was, but i recall hearing that the main reason burke traded fedorov early on in 05-06 was because he didn't want his influence around getzlaf/perry

interesting to see some scouts having carlsson ahead of fantilli. i don't think them drafting fantilli is as set in stone as it might seem

Yep. New day, still angry. f*** Chicago.
Same, even after a night of heavy drinking. Or maybe it's because of the heavy drinking.

For the sake of the thread, I'm going with the consensus - Fantilli. Not going to watch any highlights or do any extra reading until the pick it made though.

The man who built Swedeheim, yes.

Murray also drafted McTavish at #2 OA #3 OA with Swedes D Edvinsson and LW Eklund available in the 2021 draft. An overwhelming majority of this board would have taken Eklund or Edvinsson over McTavish. Not many wanted McTavish at all.

Edit: We owned the 2nd overall pick, but dropped one in the lottery.

Feels so deflating to finally get a good shot a prospect like Bedard only to get f***ed over. Don't think I'll be watching many games next year, definitely not paying for any.

I guess you take Fantilli. Ducks can't wait for Michkov.

Only positive thing I feel is this draft is good or at least better than many before it.

That was a surprising pick for several reasons, but considering he resigned ~3 months later, you have to wonder how much power he really had at that point.

Regardless, this is a lot of thought being put into what I felt was a pretty unimportant joke about Bob Murray having a preference for Swedish players. Pretty sure at one point we had Lundestrom, Aberg, Rakell, Lindholm, Silf, Larsson, and Pettersson on the bench all at one time.

There are two things that are frustrating for me. Number 1 is getting so close, things were literally going perfect for us, no movement at all. Even going into the final revelation, the odds were with us. it felt like it was on our doorstep. Number 2 is it obviously being Chicago, i could've rested easier with a team like CBJ, AZ, or even MTL. Although i will not go as far as others and say i would've even preferred SJ, because i think that would be really bad for the Ducks. But Chicago is a team which has had just a lot of stuff go their way, and not to mention they beat us in a painful playoff series 8 years ago where we probably win the cup if we get by them in that game 7.
