Yeah i know its early but 2022 draft discussion started pretty quickly too last year.
So far its #1 Bedard and #2 Mitchkov but after that what are players you are interested in for the Ducks ?
I don't see Bedard falling like Wright did at all. Who will be this years Slaf and Cooley ?

Blanket warning to everyone - the season is over, the active tanking is over, and everyone needs to remember how to get along.

Polite discussions of different viewpoints is fine. Assertions as to who is a good fan, who is a bad fan, and most particularly trolling behavior is going to result in thread bans and warnings. The vast majority of posters here are great about this. There are a few of you, on both sides of this issue, who are trying to start things, and I would advise you to carefully consider if that snarky comment you just made is worth being your last post in a thread. I would advise the folks who think that making an even snarkier response to make that same assessment. Neither of your posts will be seen by anyone else for long regardless.

It is perfectly fine to not understand how anyone could root for the team to lose. It is perfectly fine to not understand how losing has strong benefits to the franchise king term. There are gaping holes in BOTH positions, that may be discussed and debated…POLITELY.

We are all Ducks fans. Time to remember that and stop being at each other’s throats.

I think Smith is a great player and will be a star player in the league but to me, he's clearly on a tier below Fantilli/Carlsson

S Tier - Bedard/Michkov (but Michkov's situation brings him down in the draft)
A+ Tier - Fantilli/Carlsson
A Tier - Smith

I think things will correct themselves post-World Championships and Carlsson will be back at #3 in the final draft rankings from McKenzie

By the hate for Smith? He would still probably be the best draft prospect for the Ducks in atleast the last 20 years.

If the scouts have him higher then Carlsson then you gotta trust them.

I don’t think it’s hate for Smith as much as realizing what the other prospects bring. Having Smith and Zegras would be redundant when you could have grabbed one of Fantilli or Carlsson.

You take the BPA with a top 3 pick. You don’t draft for need that high. Time and time again it has shown to be a huge mistake.

Sure, if Smith is clearly BPA, which he isn’t in this case. Hence the “hate” for taking him over someone who is arguably just as good/ better, but fills a gigantic need on this team.
I get what you are saying and personally I agree that Carlsson would be the BPA as well as a better fit.

But if the scouts disagree and have Smith higher then I want them to take the BPA.

Maybe it's Chicago and Arizona who told McKenzie they prefer smkth. They might be the perfect fit for Smith who lack the player like him. Cooley is super small, Smith would be a bigger Center for them. Chicago has literally no young high upside centers so Smith could be what they want.

Chicago is the team who passed up on Minyukov for Korchinski. Maybe they would pass on Carlsson for Smith.

If it's the scouts who hyped Tracey, Colangelo and Nattinen maybe Verbeek should go with his gut on Carlsson who brings that size down the middle and skates quite well lately

I think media pundits rank Smith over Carlsson due to recency bias of the WJC-18. Carlsson missed out on the WJC-18 by six days, with a Dec 26th birth date. Carlsson would probably have scored equally or more than Smith at the WJC-18. At the WJC-20, Carlsson just turned 18 just when the tournament games counted, on Dec 26. .

Before securing the worst record in the league, I was one of the fan hyped up on selecting Will Smith. IMO, he's like a better goal scoring version of Zegras. Both need to work on their two-way games, but Smith doesn't engage himself with winning puck battles all too often and lives on the blue line to receive long, stretch passes for a quick transition.

I'm all up for BPA, but I don't think Smith is BPA over Carlsson, especially with what Carlsson did in the playoffs in a men's league: first in team assists (8a), second in team scoring (9 pts), and second in plus/minus rating (+8). We aren't comparing apples to apples here. Smith is doing his thing against 18-year olds or younger while Carlsson is doing his work against a top tier men's league for the second season in a row.

If neither Smith nor Carlsson can't score, then only Carlsson would still bring more to the table with his defense and puck possessions. Carlsson can still tilt the ice if he isn't scoring. The same cannot be said of Smith right now.

Tracey, Colangelo, and Nattinen were draft late in the first round (Tracey) or in the 2nd round (Colangelo). As for picking inside the top-10, Anaheim is doing much better with forwards Zegras (drafted 9th).

True. Its like after Nattienen & Larsson they stopped drafting so many europeans in one draft.

Bedard or Fantilli, please
Agreed. I don't want to have to deal with falling a spot again, let alone two. I can not remember if we ever really moved up a spot or two beforehand in a regular lottery draw (2005 was, IIRC, effectively a +1 spot from #3 to #2 but might as well be seen as staying on course, as our roster was atrocious and we would've finished bottom two anyway). We have dropped a spot like 80% of the past 20 drafts, we're overdue to win the lottery.

I think most of the teams haven't. It's how the draft is designed.

Even now the odds are that we're highly likely to fall. But man, I have my fingers crossed we get #1 pick this year
