Yeah i know its early but 2022 draft discussion started pretty quickly too last year.
So far its #1 Bedard and #2 Mitchkov but after that what are players you are interested in for the Ducks ?
I don't see Bedard falling like Wright did at all. Who will be this years Slaf and Cooley ?

Blanket warning to everyone - the season is over, the active tanking is over, and everyone needs to remember how to get along.

Polite discussions of different viewpoints is fine. Assertions as to who is a good fan, who is a bad fan, and most particularly trolling behavior is going to result in thread bans and warnings. The vast majority of posters here are great about this. There are a few of you, on both sides of this issue, who are trying to start things, and I would advise you to carefully consider if that snarky comment you just made is worth being your last post in a thread. I would advise the folks who think that making an even snarkier response to make that same assessment. Neither of your posts will be seen by anyone else for long regardless.

It is perfectly fine to not understand how anyone could root for the team to lose. It is perfectly fine to not understand how losing has strong benefits to the franchise king term. There are gaping holes in BOTH positions, that may be discussed and debated…POLITELY.

We are all Ducks fans. Time to remember that and stop being at each other’s throats.

We’ve watched Kucherov do what he does in the playoffs for years and guys are ready to pass on the second coming of him for dollar store Nik Backstrom
It's a tough call but the risk is just too great for a top 3 pick given how much talent the other 3 players have. At #4 it becomes an easier call to make. And Michkov has his own warts...he's not a perfect player either.

They say this, so it's just hockey pedigree:

But then they say this, so...no it isn't?

I'm more inclined to think it's hockey predigree. There are two more Russians in the top-10 besides Michkov, with one of those Russians jumping into the top-10.

LW But: Midterm Rank = 11th, Final Rank = 9th
D Gulyayev: Midterm Rank = 8th, Final Rank = 10th

Central Scouting probably holds a quorum like Elite Prospects and The Hockey Writers do on YouTube whenever they do prospect rankings throughout the seasons.

Just my opinion, but I think Carlsson's SHL performance probably nudged him over Michkov. If the Final Rankings came out before the SHL playoffs, then I think Michkov is #1 in the European rankings. I had Michkov #1 for Europe because of his late Sochi surge (before Carlsson's SHL playoff performance), but I wouldn't draft him.

For the record I think Michkov is only behind Bedard in terms of talent and I have no doubt he'll be a star in the NHL. I'm not as scared off by the Russian factor as other people seem to be. He's already said he plans on coming to the NHL to play and he's developing in Russia first.

I think most people’s fear is that politics will keep him from coming. Not that he won’t want to.

Why are you guys giving a new poster/Ducks fan a hard time, more the merrier. 5-6 years ago I came here, and the first reply I got was “How is McIlrath” lol.
I don’t care at all about new fans. The more the merrier. But when someone comes in just to talk about how stupid we are that isn’t exactly the same.

If I went to the Kings board and started trashing things would I be welcome?

If I’m wrong and he is a fan and posts here then fine. I’m sure more then some of you think I’m dumb so he will fit right in lol.

We need fresh blood! If we get Bedard this place will swell

Maybe, but we're still in the middle of a rebuild where we're probably waiting on our blue line to be NHL established and hope that some of our new, veteran forwards, like Strome and Vatrano, learn how to play defense better than -30 and -29 respectively.

Any of the top-3 picks will take time to develop that 200-ft game. McTavish is one of our better 200ft players, but he's still learning.

With Terry breaking out at the same time Z broke out and then we added McTavish' debut. I'm kinda already spoiled.

I don’t think that is the case, and no we don’t think you are dumb, lol.

Taken from personal experience it’s hard to transition or add a 2nd team forum, when you have dual fandom.

It had been a shitty season so not much positive things to talk about but the Top 3 locked in pick in a stacked draft, gives us a lot of hope for the future and it will hopefully bring back fans and add new ones. Especially, if we land Bedard.

I moved to LA in July last year and have been watching there’s games the whole year. Team was so bad though that I didn’t engage all to much
I feel like it was more recent than that.

Anyway. Does anyone have an opinion about the difference in ceiling between Fantilli/Carlsson and McTavish, for example? I guess what I'm asking is, how much more excited should I be over those guys versus Mac (if at all)?

I get the sense that most feel like Fantili/Carlsson are closer to eichel level while McTavish is closer to PLD. Though I feel like a lot of folks feel McTavish doesn't have a high ceiling as far as production goes. People were saying we didn't have any franchise altering players this year. To me that suggested that while a good player he wouldn't change the course I'd the team.

As for what I think, from the way people have talked about this draft as I have not delved deeply I would think the top 3 all have higher upside than McTavish.

Ah, but are we allowed to talk about the political angle. I think that we have been warned about talking politics, and yet that is an integral part of the evaluation regarding the draft of any of the Russian players. Do we/any team draft a Russian player given the political environment, which causes more concern over whether they will come to North American to play hockey? If the draft is a team's future, it can't afford to waste high draft choices for any reason, be it the political environment or a history of questionable maturity.
