Yeah i know its early but 2022 draft discussion started pretty quickly too last year.
So far its #1 Bedard and #2 Mitchkov but after that what are players you are interested in for the Ducks ?
I don't see Bedard falling like Wright did at all. Who will be this years Slaf and Cooley ?

Blanket warning to everyone - the season is over, the active tanking is over, and everyone needs to remember how to get along.

Polite discussions of different viewpoints is fine. Assertions as to who is a good fan, who is a bad fan, and most particularly trolling behavior is going to result in thread bans and warnings. The vast majority of posters here are great about this. There are a few of you, on both sides of this issue, who are trying to start things, and I would advise you to carefully consider if that snarky comment you just made is worth being your last post in a thread. I would advise the folks who think that making an even snarkier response to make that same assessment. Neither of your posts will be seen by anyone else for long regardless.

It is perfectly fine to not understand how anyone could root for the team to lose. It is perfectly fine to not understand how losing has strong benefits to the franchise king term. There are gaping holes in BOTH positions, that may be discussed and debated…POLITELY.

We are all Ducks fans. Time to remember that and stop being at each other’s throats.

Leo Carlsson's thread has some random tape (on Tw) from his playoff run. His skating looked day and night from earlier in the season. He looks incredible, he is money on the boards, he consistently plays on the inside, and I think he has an excellent IQ. I still haven't seen much of his defensive play, but he looks good.

He had a nagging LBI before WJC and played through it. Which is why he was slowly brought back into the lineup before the playoffs. If the Ducks don't get #1 I'm kind of hoping they pick third to get him.

Looking at CSB's Final Rankings to see who might be available with 2nd and 3rd round picks. I still want Halttunen with our first pick in the second round, but I think we can grab F Danny Nelson as a long term project with our later 2nd rd pick or early third. A 6'3 and 203 lbs, Nelson is a defenseman turned forward who does a lot of gritty work down low. He's a an August baby and still 17 years old. To work on his defense as a forward and body, Nelson is heading to Notre Dame in the 2024-25 season.

Thanks for the detailed thoughts on Stramel. I could totally see PV and company taking him at 33. If his offense comes around (a big if) then he could be a great pick. That said, I was not surprised to see that he dropped from 21 to 30 on the final NHL Central Scouting list for N/A players.
Adding to @heusy_79 . A lot of scouts before the season started expected Stramel to play his way into a top 15 or even top 10 pick. He has been described as an incredible physical specimen by many scouts and has a number of well developed skills in his game. His season has been very disappointing, but it is not unlikely it has more to do with environment rather than himself. Wisconsin woefully under performed this season, perhaps next year with new coaching the team will perk up, and it will be a better environment to evaluate his play.

Also he has had pretty rough injury luck in the last two years. This was the first full season he’s had in the last three years after missing large chunks of the last two.

He also joined this list of players who played in the U20 WJC for the states in their D-1 year.

Stramel has some risk of busting or maybe just being a bottom sixer but the team that picks him is likely betting on him being a victim of circumstance and they might not be wrong. And if they aren’t they could have a rather talented power winger in their top 6.

I mean that's my understanding of the ranking as well. Just strikes me as interesting.
They say this, so it's just hockey pedigree:
Matvei Michkov (5-10, 172), a right wing with Sochi in the Kontinental Hockey League, is the No. 2-ranked skater. The 18-year-old forward had 20 points (nine goals, 11 assists) in 30 games. He was No. 2 in the midterm ranking.

"We feel Carlsson is a bit more mature and more of an NHL type of player as he is bigger and stronger," Stubb said. "Carlsson is also a better two-way player with a good knowledge of his defensive responsibilities. Both are very special players, excellent prospects and have the tools needed to be stars in the NHL in the future.

"Both played big roles on their club teams this season against seniors. It won't be easy to say who will be better in 3-5 seasons."
But then they say this, so...no it isn't?
Whichever NHL team decides to select Michkov in the draft will do so with the understanding that his KHL contract with SKA St. Petersburg runs through 2025-26, so patience will be needed. Additionally, Michkov was unable to play in the 2023 WJC since Russia has been banned from international tournaments because of its invasion of Ukraine.

"If you're strictly evaluating the on-ice play, then Michkov is one of the elite players in this draft class," NHL Central Scouting vice president Dan Marr said. "He has the potential to be in the conversation as of one of the elite players of this decade, same as Connor Bedard. If you factor in a healthy and stronger player, Michkov will be able to influence games and have a similar impact on the scoreboard as Bedard. They both have their own unique styles of attack when they have the puck, they are offensive threats and they're both exciting players to watch."

I'de be happy with either of the two. But I'm pretty sure the Ducks will have a clear cut favorite between Fantilli and Carlsson. And I do wonder, after the lotto, how much the third pick team might give to move up to 2? That would be a fun conversation. And to be clear, I'm only talking about the possibility of moving back from 2 to 3 if the price was right.

Fantilli does remind me a bit of MacKinnon though hard to imagine that he'd reach Nate's peak - and that's not a knock on him as a prospect, it's just that MacK is really not too far off from Crosby IMO.

but I do see the similarities, MacKinnon might be a little more on the passing/playmaking side of the ledger and Fantilli just opposite of him. but both are adept at really all offensive aspects of the game.

I'm expecting the lottery to screw us again and we drop, but assuming both Fantilli and Carlsson both are similar level players, I kind of want Carlsson. Mainly because if my girlfriend and I have a kid and it's a boy, she'd let me name him Lionel (after Messi), but I would try to get the spelling changed to Leonel so we could call him Leo after a Ducks player (she shot down Teemu or hyphenated Teemu-Selanne as names for a potential kid, still going to try to push for it though).:laugh::laugh:

I've watched basically zero highlights of Bedard and I refuse to until after the lottery. But I am geeking out on Fantilli and Carlsson.
Bedard highlights are essentially the same as you turning on nhl 23 and playing vs the computer on easy.

As far as the Fantilli vs Carlsson debate... i think they are very close.... so my reasoning for putting Fantilli ahead of carlson is simple.

I like the name Fantilli better than Carlsson, and he went to michigan(and im a Michigan fanboy in all college sports)

It's incredible the amount of blue-chip NHL talent Michigan has churned out the past few years.

Here's an article where he touches on where he might next year. tough to know for sure but seems like where and who he's drafted by might impact that decision.

We’ve watched Kucherov do what he does in the playoffs for years and guys are ready to pass on the second coming of him for dollar store Nik Backstrom

calling him Dollar Store Nik Backstrom seems like a bit much, he had pretty much identical draft year production to Backstrom, if anything he's the "Second coming of Backstrom" in the same way Michkov is the "Second coming of Kucherov", and if he ends up having the same career as Backstrom stat wise I'd be more than happy with that pick.

I don't doubt Michkov is the better player of the two and will likely have the better career but I also understand 100% why both fans and management would rather go with Carlsson given the circumstances.

I’ll take a 100% chance at Backstrom over 75% chance of Kucherov.

Also not to be rude but you’re on the Ducks board as a non-Ducks fan. You can always leave if our opinions are upsetting you.

The ideal use of this pick is to have the player on the ice with Terry before Terry is 29. Or 35. Or potentially, retired.

Lundestrom is Dollar Store Backstrom. Carlsson is more like Backstrom 2.0.
