Yeah i know its early but 2022 draft discussion started pretty quickly too last year.
So far its #1 Bedard and #2 Mitchkov but after that what are players you are interested in for the Ducks ?
I don't see Bedard falling like Wright did at all. Who will be this years Slaf and Cooley ?

Blanket warning to everyone - the season is over, the active tanking is over, and everyone needs to remember how to get along.

Polite discussions of different viewpoints is fine. Assertions as to who is a good fan, who is a bad fan, and most particularly trolling behavior is going to result in thread bans and warnings. The vast majority of posters here are great about this. There are a few of you, on both sides of this issue, who are trying to start things, and I would advise you to carefully consider if that snarky comment you just made is worth being your last post in a thread. I would advise the folks who think that making an even snarkier response to make that same assessment. Neither of your posts will be seen by anyone else for long regardless.

It is perfectly fine to not understand how anyone could root for the team to lose. It is perfectly fine to not understand how losing has strong benefits to the franchise king term. There are gaping holes in BOTH positions, that may be discussed and debated…POLITELY.

We are all Ducks fans. Time to remember that and stop being at each other’s throats.

Even if we do end up with a double-worst scenario now (climbing to 3rd odds and dropping max in lotto), the odds are not huge for that. It can happen but it seems we're picking in top4 unless we really really get unlucky:

It’s possible there ends up a 4 way tie at the bottom of the standings and the ducks take it on tie breaker

How big do all those regulation losses look now?

Said it before but I think it's about time to use a 2nd/3rd on a high upside goalie again with Clang/Alexander getting to the pro level. Who do you guys like?

It seems like a great year to be targetting goalies, there are enough intriguing names that one can safely expect at least a couple good starters to emerge from the crop.

I really like Carson Bjarnason in that 2nd/3rd round range. Big and athletic, competes hard to keep a crappy team in games.

Adam Gajan made a believer of me with his play at the WJC. Love to see a huge goalie that battles the way he does.

Looking a bit deeper into the draft, Zachary Bowen also intrigues. An OHL rookie coming out of "junior B" hockey, and once he found his footing he went on an absolute tear for London. Decent size and extremely quick legs.

I’m sure it’s been discussed plenty, but if we land at 2, is there a majority consensus between Fant and Carl around here?

This is tough. Their games changes throughout the season and post season. They looked even before the WJC. At the WJC, Carlsson looked a lot better and a better team player. After the WJC, Fantilli upped his game and his production skyrocketed. In the SHL playoffs, Carlsson is off the charts as he's 2nd on team scoring with 9 points (1g, 8a) in 13 gmes and 3rd in the league overall. Also, his playoff plus/minus rating is +8, 2nd on the team and 2nd in the league.

With Fantilli, you get a fast skating, goal scorer that still needs to refine his team game part. With Carlsson, you get a well rounded playmaker who's thriving at a men's league. Carlsson is an inch taller and 7 lbs heavier than 6'2 and 187 lbs Fantilli.

well, I'm stuck. It might be because I just focused a lot on Will Smith b/c I thought we would be in the 5-6 range in the draft. If we win the draft, then I wouldn't be stuck because we all know who the #1 pick is.

They could use another goal scorer like that. Zegras and Terry the playmakers, Fantili and McTavish the goal scorers.
I feel like because of his size and speed that Fantilli will play in the NHL next year, he's got the speed and size advantage over McTavish who needed more time to develop.

Fantilli has elite skating, elite skill, physicality, leadership, 6'2" and the drive and determination to succeed.

Carlsson has elite hockey iq, elite skill, playmaking, speed, excellent compete, 6'3" and can play wing or center.

Both are fantastic if we get to pick one. I think the deciding factor will be if Verbeek thinks we need more leadership and fire in the team. If that is the case then we go Fantilli.

We also cant forget about Michkov. He is the #2 talent in the draft and will only drop because of the Russia situation. Verbeek has said he isnt scared of drafting Russians and having a generational talent on Zegras wing would be orgasmic.

If Anaheim can't get Bedard I want Fantili, Give me a big talented center to rebuild this around, who does that remind you of?
If you’re talking about Getzlaf then Carlsson is way more in Getzlaf’s mold in terms of play. He is kind of a Malkin/Getzlaf mold IMO.

If we end up at 2 then I expect Fantilli and I have no problem with that.

It is a can't miss choice between Fantilli and Carlsson. I would be inclined towards Carlsson only because he is playing on the wing and we have two top centers already in Zegras and McTavish.

I would take Carlsson over Fantilli but it’s so close. I would be happy with either or

I really like Carlsson's team game better than Fantilli's team game. There are plenty of little, subtle things that Carlsson does on the ice that doesn't show up on the scoreboard kinda like how McTavish does a lot of little, subtle things on the ice that often goes unnoticed such as holding the opponent to the board to let another teammate scoop up the puck, anticipates pass route to create turnovers, or to win the puck, he would use his body as a screen first to secure he gets to the puck first. Carlsson's packing high hockey IQ.

Fantilli is tenacious and uses his physical abilities very well to get to his end goals. His game reminds of Kent Johnson with far better results and bite. Both start off being better individual players (hero puck) than team players. The WJC for Fantilli reveals that. I dunno if Fantilli has developed that team game connection or was just pissed at the hockey world b/c of the WJC outing that he took it out on the NCAA afterwards. Looking at the Big-10 Finals as well as the Frozen Four 2nd and 3rd stages, I was expecting Fantilli to shine respective to his offensive onslaught after the WJC. Instead, his game felt a bit muted to me.

I think if we're at #2, then Verbeek takes Fantilli because of his goal scoring, tenacity, and speed.

Agreed on Carlsson's IQ, he definitely looks like more than a big brute with skill. Not quite as prolific in his draft year, but I don't think a Barkov comparison is out of line.

Carlsson ranks tied at 10th in points, with 25 pts, for U19 in the SHL history this year, D+0. He's tied for 6th overall in points, with 9 pts, for U19 in the SHL playoffs. Third in goal scoring in the WJC-20 with 3 goals and tied for third in scoring with 6 points for team Sweden. He's the only non-drafted player in the top-10 scoring for team Sweden at the WJC-20.

I don't know what you mean when you say his draft year wasn't prolific?

Not as prolific as Barkov's is what I was saying, he was just a hair under a point per game in SM Liiga. Slightly more impressive numbers than Carlsson but overall I find them quite comparable.
