Yeah i know its early but 2022 draft discussion started pretty quickly too last year.
So far its #1 Bedard and #2 Mitchkov but after that what are players you are interested in for the Ducks ?
I don't see Bedard falling like Wright did at all. Who will be this years Slaf and Cooley ?

Blanket warning to everyone - the season is over, the active tanking is over, and everyone needs to remember how to get along.

Polite discussions of different viewpoints is fine. Assertions as to who is a good fan, who is a bad fan, and most particularly trolling behavior is going to result in thread bans and warnings. The vast majority of posters here are great about this. There are a few of you, on both sides of this issue, who are trying to start things, and I would advise you to carefully consider if that snarky comment you just made is worth being your last post in a thread. I would advise the folks who think that making an even snarkier response to make that same assessment. Neither of your posts will be seen by anyone else for long regardless.

It is perfectly fine to not understand how anyone could root for the team to lose. It is perfectly fine to not understand how losing has strong benefits to the franchise king term. There are gaping holes in BOTH positions, that may be discussed and debated…POLITELY.

We are all Ducks fans. Time to remember that and stop being at each other’s throats.

Seeing the big 4 dominate their leagues is making me depressed
Me watching highlights of those 4 guys while simultaneously thinking about our potential draft position:

Michkov in his second game in MHL has another 2 goals 1 assist... 6 pts in 2 games.

I hope the philosophy for this draft is to go forward-heavy, then sprinkle defense and goalie on the last couple rounds.

Verbeek in his TDL interview makes it known (again) that he wants as many darts on the board as he can.. maybe a Henrique deal at the draft for more picks? He also values high character players (whether that means more to him vs a skill guy is up for debate)

He loves our defensive prospects so far. Guess that’s a good sign of things to come. It will just be a real long time before we see any progress

Whoever doesn’t get #1 out of Chicago/columbus, I have a feeling they will go michkov.

I think he’s too good to pass up and better than the other options at 2/3/4.

I agree I have a tough time seeing pv go michkov…. Im okay as long as we come out with bedard, fantilli, benson or carlsson

At 8 you’re prob hoping sale or smith stil there… if we end up 8th after this season that would be extremely disappointing.
Extremely

For your viewing pleasure. Feel free to rip it apart, or post your own top 32. Also there's a post with an overview of each player here if you want to read it:

This is a good list.

Chiming in as a Columbus fan going around the boards for the other bottom feeders to see their fans' perspectives now post-deadline. I don't think there's much chance at all Columbus goes for Michkov. The organization's number one need is a solid top-shelf center, and the top of this draft has at least three if not five of them if you add Benson and Smith as well. Drafting for need is generally foolish, but I think it's more likely Columbus drafts fifth or sixth and Jarmo's choice is essentially made for him (much like last season with Chicago's pick being sixth overall and Jiricek falling into his lap). Future Columbus Blue Jacket Zach Benson is the most likely outcome.

thanks for the insight. Been saying it for a while now that I hope if we don't win the lottery, you guys do. Cannot stand the thought of him going to Chicago and being gifted another player for them to build another dynasty around. Just don't want SJ simply because they're in our division. Arizona doesn't even deserve a team, let alone a talent like Bedard.

I was pretty ambivalent up til about New Years on where I hoped he'd end up, but I've definitely come around that if not us, then you guys. Zegras is so much fun. When the Ducks were here in Columbus earlier this year, I loved that during warmups, he took the time to interact with fans and do puck tricks for them by the glass, plus he's a blast to watch. I have a good friend who was a Ducks STH when she lived in SoCal, though she's back east now, and she's still a fan. I can be a good friend and be happy for her if her teams wins Bedard, lol. I'm also a longtime Shark hater, and I agree about Chicago. The whole concept of Arizona just makes me sad. Someone on a Jackets blog described that whole franchise as Paddy's Pub from It's Always Sunny and that's just so apt.

Michkov's stock is rising. The THW youtube channel both have Michkov over Carlsson, but both below Bedard and Fantilli. I dunno, I think many teams and scouts will want to get their hands on tapes with Sochi. There could be a chance that Michkov goes 2nd overall.

Since I'm set that our earliest date to start to compete for the playoffs is the 2025-26 season, then Michkov can come over on a more complete team at 2026-27 season. Unless the Ducks can buy out Michkov's KHL contract so he can come sooner, that'll be the wait time.

I'm indifferent on which top-4 we get b/c the drop off in talent is significant to 5/6 (Benson/Smith). And then another drop off after those two.

Saw a thing on Twitter saying michkov makes the most sense for Arizona pretty comfortably. They don't have to pay him or worry about him until their stadium is done in four years and michkov probably stays in russia for at least that long.

Do you guys see a big enough difference between #2-#3 to trade up? Say the Ducks end up with the #3 pick, and the team at 2 is willing to move back a spot, is Fantilli/Carlsson worth more than the other or are they a pretty similar tier?

Wouldn't give up much. Fantilli seems like a slam dunk pick if he's available but Calrsson may end up better.

If we're talking Fantilli/Carlsson then no both guys seem to have pretty similar ceilings/floors

No, because if a team is willing to give up the #2 to drop just one spot, that means they weren’t taking that player to begin with. No one would willingly give up their guy barring a massive overpayment, which wouldn’t be called for in this instance.

If were drafting like 5-8... then ya id for sure want to move up to the 2/3/4 slot.

Trading from 3rd to 2nd.... would prob cost more than its worth... i feel like up to 2-6 your getting a really good player.

I view getting a top-3 pick as icing on the cake b/c we've already got a potentially great forward group already with Terry, Zegras, and McTavish in our top-6. Our deficiency at the NHL and AHL levels are a lack of talent on the blue line, but we'll be getting a lot of talent within the next two seasons at the pro level (AHL and NHL).

Both Fantilli and Carlsson have high floors, but play the games differently. Fantilli has more speed and is tenacious with scoring. Carlsson plays more of the team game and has lots of subtlety in hockey plays, kinda like McTavish. Either player will fit into our top-6. If either one can displace Z at center, then that would be a huge bonus b/c Z is still struggling to play the 200-ft game. And since both Fantilli and Carlsson are huge, they can do the heavy lifting at center.

I think Z-Fantilli would be a great match with their tenacity to score and score often. Also, Carlsson-McTavish would be a great match too as they probably would control play for all 200 ft sheet of ice, and reminds me of McTavish-Winterton chemistry with the Hamilton Bulldogs.

I don't think it's worth it moving up between 2/3 in this draft. We didn't try to trade up in 2021 from #3 to #2. There were a lot of talk of wanting Beniers, but he surely was going to go #2 overall. Then there was a drop off in talent tier after Power and Beniers. #3 was a free for all, to which many despised McTavish being in any conversation for #3. Murray drafted McTavish to troll the masses. Two years later, McTavish is second in rookie scoring behind Beniers and is the Ducks' best all around center as a rookie.

If we walk away from the draft with one of bedard, michov or fantilli I will be pumped. I need someone to talk me into Carlsson as my guy tells me that’s who we end up with.
