Nimmo is super important. I disagree whole heartedly with you. Guy is always on base, works counts, and his defense is superb. I would absolutely re-sign him.
My thing is that he's going to want $25M a season. He's a Boras client. Cohen can spend all he wants, but is he going to spend 300M? Probably not.

Ship out McCann however you need to. Upgrading the offense from catcher is the biggest thing they need to do.

I'd explore the trade market for a corner outfielder. Maybe Bryan Reynolds and he can play center too. The Pirates are a feeder team for everyone, he'd be a great add.

Nimmo had the same OBP as Canha. His defense as a CF has improved to about average and has no arm. IMO he should only play LF as Marte is better in CF and is all around the better player. I agree with the notion that he will cost more than he is worth to replace since he somehow has a 5.5 WAR .But unless the Mets make a trade or sign Judge I don't see any one out there to replace him.
His defensive metrics went way above average. He was superb defensively, I think you’re under valuing that. And his OBP is the same as Canha’s is a bit disingenuous, he had 53 XBH, 71 BB, and 66 RBI this year. That’s really valuable.

I am pissed on many different levels. Losing out to Atlanta was one thing, but now obviously detrimental. The beginning of the end. Getting "out Mets" by the Padres doing everything much better than what WE were known for throughout the season.
Who knew?
Gonna be fun for them on the West Coast, should have been the Mets. Now, I cannot talk shit with my cousin the Dodgers fan.

Gonna be very interesting on who stays and who goes. Incoming....
JUDGE and Juerys. (Familia)
Oh nooooo! Not again!

Canha and Nimmo had same OBP which was the stat you referred to. Nimmo had a 130 OPS+ as a leadoff hitter while Canha had a 122 OPS+ hitting 7th. I don't know if OPS+ takes that into account.

Regarding defense he was 10th out of 22 centerfielders with 200+ attempts in outs above average which IMO is average. What metrics are you referrng to?

Say what you will about Scherzer, it's a one-start sample. It is what it is. The guy has been in and won the World Series.

In my outside opinion, the Mets need more offense. All year, I felt like they needed to score more. It's not a bad lineup, but it's a bit unimpressive and there's too many games where they go completely limp like last night.

They were 8th in slugging and 15th in homers. That's too much pressure on Alonso to be ALL of their power.

They need another big bat behind Alonso.

The lineup never really impressed me beyond the top to middle of the order.

Someone's gotta protect Alonso.

I miss the days where we had Alfonso-Olerud-Piazza-Ventura or Beltran-Wright-Delgado, a real murderer's row 3-4-5.

Next year the Mets lineup is Lindor Marte Canha Baty/Escobar McCann/Alvarez Alonso McNeill are set. So either resign Nimmo or trade for a high end corner OF and sign a real DH. Can make some bigger moves but the pitching staff needs a lot of attention too. Probably have to resign degrom Diaz and a replacement for cookie.

Canha doesn't scare anyone. I'd rather have McNeill in the 3 hole. Or he hits 2nd and Lindor 3rd or 5th. They need another legit big power bat. Maybe Judge is just a wet dream, but no one is afraid enough of the batting order to have to pitch to Alonso. Hopefully Alvarez develops quickly to provide additional power and Baty becomes another McNeill.

Alonso is basically a real DH.

They could find a good 1b and just DH Alonso because hes a terrible defender though I suppose they can try to coax Ohtani out of the Angels to off set the impact of losing DeGrom while adding a power bat.

It's going to be a tough road for the Mets in that division for the next decade no matter what though, the Braves are young and pretty fantastic.

You think the Mets would have upper the entertainment value?

They would have gotten slaughtered by LA much like San Diego is likely to be.

The Padres have no entertainment value

The Braves had one fluke October last year and now they're 'pretty fantastic'

My opinion? Alonso should slim down a bit. That might actually help him hit for more power, especially opposite field power. He's become too bulky.

Mets need to sign Alonso long term and telling him he's a sucky defender by signing an expensive first baseman isn't going to help with the negotiations.

Too many WC teams for me. I'd like to see the first round eliminated. The Mets would have still have made the playoffs in this plan.

If they land ohtani then dont you think he becomes an almost everyday dh with what he will get paid and then pete is married to 1b long term? i honestly dont know what they do bc this roster is horribly flawed and is going to get worse but cost more money very quickly. i just dont like how this is setup to move forward

Yes. They're a dynasty in the making.

If they don't win 3 or 4 of the f***ing things, it'll be a massive letdown just like one title was a massive letdown in the 90's.

I loved it. I felt like six was the perfect number of actually deserving teams, baseball every day, all on the line. More please.

I don't disagree with you but you don't need 162 games to separate the top 12 of 30 teams. It's the same for NHL and NBA - the regular season is too long.

I don't disagree. Again, baseball every day is very much my jam, but I can't disagree.

I also like the fact that the NFL and MLB playoffs last a month so the games feel more intense. Playng a 6 month regular season to get an extra home game isn't a very good incentive, especially when home advantage isn't very important to NHL and MLB playoff series.

They should have just done what soccer did from the beginning which is make regular season titles a thing. The ship has sailed on that now.

They used to have that until they created divisions. I like a lot of the way soccer works - top team wins the title, top 4-5 are invited to champions league and even my hammers earned a Euro invite. I liked it better when FA cup winners also got a champions league invite (at least I think they did). Winning the lower leagues is a nice piece of hardware but the top 2 auto-promote so there can sometimes be shenanigans. I like promotion/relegation but that'll never happen here and probably a good thing for me as the mets jets knicks and rangers would have been in the 3rd division.

I wouldn't be surprised to see divisions in the EPL. I think they already have divisions in the lower levels in England.

Home advantage isn’t important in the NHL? Last change is a big deal, as evidenced by the Rangers-Hurricanes series last year.

In the MLB though, yeah I agree.
