Dom is a good fielder which is a lot more than I can say for JD Davis.
Well, he's a good fielder at first. He sucks everywhere else. Is a 1B that can't hit but fields well worth that much? Even Doug Mientkiewicz was an average hitter. If he's a DH who can't hit, well... JD isn't a very good fielder anywhere on the diamond but his bat isn't in question, and that's why he's been a 4.1 fWAR guy over 1100 PA and Dom has been worth 1 fWAR over 1250 PA.

Are you guys legitimately not concerned about Dominic? I love the guy, I really do, but I see real reasons for concern. There's a very legitimate chance that last season was not the outlier in his career. Plus with the rumors about him maybe not wanting to be here if he's playing a part-time role, it just seems like a situation that might not get better at all.

I would have traded both Dom and JD (and Nimmo and Conforto but that ship has sailed) but what were you going to get for them? Maybe you can get something for them at the deadline. I'd trade those guys for prospects.

I still don't get Nimmo in CF and Marte in RF. Marte is a CF but has played more games as a LF. And we stick him in right to keep Nimmo in CF? I don't get it. He's a decent top of the lineup guy but he is not a CF. Mets still have too many guys who don't field their position well. At least Alonso makes up for it.

Not gonna win many games hitting .176 with risp Yankees.Monte deserved so much better today

Marte has regressed in CF. How is Nimmo not a CF? He's fast, athletic, and has long strides. He's also a decent top-of-the-lineup guy. He's an elite top-of-the-order guy. .400 OBP players don't grow on trees. Marte's arm is stronger too. No issues with what the Mets or Buck want to do so far.

He has not graded out particularly well in CF. I think last year was the first year where most metrics considered him above-average in CF--previously he had graded out poorly. His speed is okay, but it's also about getting good jumps and good reads, and he's just okay there. In the corners he's pretty good, but CF is a bit of a stretch. I do love his bat, though.

What I had read about Marte is the Mets feel that RF is particularly hard to play at Citi, and so they wanted their strongest fielder out there. That the combo of Marte in right with Nimmo being average in center was better than the other way around. I'm not totally sure I buy that logic but I did read it somewhere.

King has become a big time weapon out of the bullpen.3 innings tonight with 8 strikeouts. Cashman hit a HR stealing him from the Marlins

Metsies are playing good ball.
The Mets are essentially a lock to be a playoff team IF the "Mets injury luck" doesn't rear it's ugly head anymore than usual. For them to be successful this year they needed progression from McGill and Peterson, and for one of the big three if not two to remain healthy. So far Corasco and Scherzer are healthy. I don't expect it to last a full season.

It seems like they've finally gotten back to being a Mets team for the first time in 20+ years and relying on small ball and pitching to win. Before anyone goes "well actually..." about the 2015-16 versions, those teams were built on bashing the ball and struck out a lot. I would not call the Randolph and Manual Era Mets small ball wiz's and the pitching was never consistently great.

They still need to improve fielding..they have improved analytics.

I told my friends it would take 3-5 years to essentially pull a Queen Mary U-Turn. This is good progress.
