It’s a move that has to be made. Hate to give up King and Thorpe but they have many more arms coming. Will also replenish some pitching when Torres is moved.

why not just sign bellinger instead of giving up that haul for soto?

I don't know that its a "haul" but theres a pretty sizable gap between Soto and Bellinger, plus all of the spooky ness that comes with Bellingers seasons prior to the last one.

I wish SD insisted on a bat instead of Thorpe as I would have easily given up Jones ahead of him but this is still a move that had to be made. It's a reliever, a top 100 prospect (who is underrated on said list) a back up catcher and a few scrubs for a top 10 hitter in the game.

Kind of a no brainer. They still have other bullets in the chamber that they can fire if they need to make a trade for an arm or 2. Hopefully they can sign Yamamoto so that they don't have to move as many.

Why do you think Torres is being moved? He was arguably their second best hitter last season.

Great trade, I liked King like everyone else, but he’s not even a young guy with years of control left, he’s a UFA in two years.

Feel like outside of Thorpe the Yankees pumped and dumped these guys.

if the huge gap that you're referring to is based on bellinger's last 3 seasons with the dodgers ok yeah it's a real good point. and the season he just had with the cubs was a one year audition before becoming a free agent. thus one could say that was a "fluke" year and whatever else.

bellinger is a gold glover who can play the outfield and 1st base. and if you take away his last 3 sucky seasons with the dodgers his numbers are right up there with soto's. and who did soto lose to in the mvp race in 2019?

When Soto was 20?

Belli has 1 season where he’s been 5 or higher in WAR.

Soto has 4. Would have smoked that number in 2020 if not for Covid.

His numbers aren’t really close. Even in his bounce back season he was a full win less valuable than Soto who had a “good” year by his standards. Bellinger is a very good player. Soto is elite.

We also can’t ignore the 3 years before his most recent one. The injuries are a concern.

I don’t know what the plan is with all of these outfielders though.

Soto is going to put up some absurdly stupid numbers in Yankee Stadium

Judge,Verdugo,Rizzo,Torres,Soto,Stanton,Wells,Dj,Volpe is just a silly lineup

I just hope something close to that lineup is what we have and not what we had much of last season.

It’s better but really hinges on improvements from some people
Play them in the outfield I guess?

Verdugo in LF, Judge CF, Soto RF. Grisham floats around as the 4th outfielder.

Stanton will miss half the season. Cabrera sucks. That's....it?

There's no glut of outfielders on this roster.

Dominguez won’t be out forever.

If he comes back this year, just float the DH spot between Verdugo, Dominguez, Judge, and Soto.

Stanton is pretty much a non-factor at this point, and Grisham can't hit, so coming off the bench full-time is probably his long-term role.

forgive me then if i don't share the same amount of enthusiasm as you and perhaps many regarding soto. i'm just not feeling it. i certainly do not feel that he is elite by any stretch of the imagination. to be considered elite your name is acuna, betts or ohtani.

i don't know of any back stories if soto requested a trade for somewhere else. if that wasn't the case then i find it hard to believe the padres would trade away a player that many may consider as elite and keep machado and the junior juicer. if anything i would rather have gone for a trade for machado and sign bellinger since the yankees have decided to go on this xmas shopping spree. another year of dj at 3rd base?

They’re moving him because they’re bleeding money. They have 9000 big contracts already, they can’t afford another one.

He’s absolutely elite unless you think the pool of elite players is limited to 5 players league wide.

The Padres started throwing money around like they're the Mets or the Yankees and they have the 15th highest revenue (and value) in MLB.

The bills are coming due.
