Shame they couldn't pawn off Clarke Schmidt on them but that was always wishful thinking.
Not even Schmidt (which was wishful thinking as you said) but even someone like Hampton who is pretty good.

Hopefully they can compromise by including King, they can keep Thorpe. Makes me think they could be very confident with Yamamoto by including King now.Not even Schmidt (which was wishful thinking as you said) but even someone like Hampton who is pretty good.
With all the outfield injuries they have had they could view him as insurance as well as a needed left handed bat. It's an absolute negative if the Yankees brass expects him to be a starter for most of the season and it keeps them from making a better move that would actually help the team compete. ...and that is exactly what I expect of this front office.
A mediocre defensive OF with a 103 OPS+ over the past three seasons is a nice 4th OF. That's what he should be on a team that wants to contend.
Giving up King and Thorpe is fine
Soto apparently really wants to taste free agency so I'm doubtful we are able to extend him
I don't love Soto as much as others, but he's a real superstar and the Yanks' should do everything to get him and sign him
Again don't love giving up on Thorpe but it had to happen.
What don't you like about him?
His "down" seasons are career seasons for 99.9% of the league.
He’s 25 not 31 like Giambi and other mistakesHe's a butcher in the outfield and I think we've seen the best from him. I fear like Giambi and Tex he's going to go from a nearly .300 hitter 420 OBP guy to a 250 400 OBP guy with more cheapie right field homers. But you are right he's among the best in the game offensively.

I do like he doesn't strike out. Agree Giambi is an underrated yankee in many respects.Tex's issues were tied into the shift. He could have (should have) adjusted but he didn't. I'd argue that Giambi was actually a pretty strong investment.
The defense is a fair point but as far as hitters go, Soto is a unicorn. How many guys put up the numbers that he puts up while walking more than striking out in today's game? I disagree that we've seen the best we're going to see from him, hes 25 and is heading into a contract year. If he stays healthy he's going to put up some stupid numbers this year.
The Yankees are willing to raise their payroll to more than $300 million for the first time in order to add Juan Soto and Yoshinobu Yamamoto, according to sources familiar with owner Hal Steinbrenner’s thinking.
"Absolutely," one source said. "One has absolutely nothing to do with the other."
Cohen should be ripped if he doesn’t get Yamamoto. I don’t want to trade for Soto. He’s hitting free agency 100%. The Mets can sign him then.I've seen people ripping Cohen for this.
I enjoy to LOL at the Mets as much as anyone but there are few things that say "Hey, we want you" more than taking that long ass flight and personally wining and dining the dude.
Whether or not it works is a different story but it won't be for a lack of effort.

Yeah but the Mets and Yankees obviously play in the same city. If he goes to the Yankees over the Mets, that’s on Cohen. He shouldn’t be ripped if he doesn’t get him. The player has to decide that he wants to play there too.
