I'm not complaining that Philly lost, but I hate that the Diamondbacks are in the World Series. The layout has to change. Go back to a single Wild Card, have the DS and CS's and let the chips fall where they may. The current layout yields bullshit like a .500 team in the World Series.

I think it's a pretty cool WS matchup, tbh

Playoff format had nothing to do with the Phillies and Dodgers blowing their respective series. Diamondbacks have every right to be in the WS at this point, regular season record be damned.

The reason they have an expanded playoff is to draw more eyes. If only 8 out of 30 teams make the playoffs, too many teams are out in July, and they sell their players. That means fans stop showing and less money for the league. If more teams have a chance to win, more fans tune in and more fans go to games. It’s business.

Also, those teams should have easily dispensed with the Dbacks if they were that bad

Yeah I'm not exactly a fan of baseball's format, but as @jerseyjinx94 said, it's all about the $$$. More revenues in the regular season with more teams in it, more revenues from the expanded postseason. Once that genie is out of the bottle there's no going back. I don't know how much additional revenue we're talking but even if it was "just" $200 million, you're not going to get owners walking away from that. Maybe someone like Cohen who doesn't really care about his relatively small slice of the pie, but pretty much everyone else is going to be an automatic yes on keeping the increased revenue streams.

The bolded is really it right there.

Mediocre teams that just squeezed in have gotten hot and won the world series long before the new playoff format. I think that it f***s teams who get the bye in the DS as having the additional time off probably hurts more than it helps.

Diamondbacks are kind of sneaky deep.

I don't know about sneaky deep but they steal bags and are phenomenal defensively. Very easy to underestimate them.

All that said Texas should win. They were legitimately great during the RS which was diminished by the fact that they had a rough 5 weeks towards the end of the season. Now they're playing like the team that existed for most of the season. Lots of respect for how aggressive their FO has been in building that team.

Baseball is the only sport where anything can truly happen if you get into the playoffs and where its entirely possible to buy your way into contention.

They don't strike out and they keep the line moving. Very much like the Astros in that way when they're at their best. And Carroll seems like he's got the clutch gene.

The Rangers bullpen was trash all season.
They should have won that division by 10 games. Best hitting team in baseball.
The shame is its a tuff sell for baseball.
These are two good teams that were widely overlooked all season.
"small" markets have that luxury.

Wouldn't be surprised if this WS turns out to be one of the lowest in TV ratings

Hell yeah

Dbacks' RLISP was greater than the population of NYC. They blew it.
