Apologies if I missed this earlier, but what exactly has happened to Severson's game. Has it really fallen off or did he just reach his peak early and plateau from there?

Nedelkovic most likely gone , yzerman going to get other goaltender, could be just Cossa. Edvinsson going to be with Red Wings , so don't see any new on Defense .

Not most likely. Guaranteed! If they had any visions of him being back, they would have called him back up after he played good for GR.

This roster has more than enough middle of the lineup guys. Empty a bunch of those stockpiled draft picks and go after a fish big enough to push nearly every forward down the lineup.

Pry Lindholm out of Calgary. Or better still, steal Rob Thomas from the Blues. Really shake things up to add some punch to this offense.

Then add Edvinsson and a BTL* defenseman and you're in pretty good shape.

*Better Than Lindstrom
No. Lindholm is a UFA after next year and even with him the Wings still only be a borderline playoff team.

I doubt Thomas is available. Id be interested in Lindholm if an extension could be worked out.

Wings are still 2 if not 3 years away from being a good team.

Unless a bargain deal on a long term UFA or a steal of a trade for a 2nd line or top2/3Dman with many years of term left falls into their laps they should be focused on adding short term depth, saving long term cap space and accumulating picks and prospects.

The Wings should look to take on some cap dumps to gain even more future picks and prospects.

They should also be looking at 1 or 2 year stop gaps who can mentor and insulate the youngsters and be dealt for additional picks. Similar to Perron, Kubalik, and Maataa signings.

Deal for short term cap dumps such as Myers, Reilly, etc.

Sign 2 forwards such as Compher, Domi, Monahan, Nyquist, Brown, etc.

Sign 1 or 2 Dmen such as Kulikov, Holl, Gudas.

We should go for Gudas, we'll have to get rid of someone I would imagine if that was the case since we expect Edvinsson to be up full time next year.

A compher addition just to have more center depth would be helpful, kicks out veleno probably, as long as kasper can make the jump up and everything. Would be helpful to trade some wingers int he offseason if need be to make sure soderblom is up next year, really want him to stay up.

Would also LOVE for Hanas to make the team. I am sure it could be a one off, but for multiple games in the preseason, he was making very crisp threw the slot passes, tape to tape, and had a really good shot. Not sure what has happened since then since I don't watch the Griffins. But didn't Yzerman just come out and say he saw good things from him, among others??

Part of me would be super shocked if Detroit was scraping the cap floor next year.

Another part of me would not be. I hope we're closer to the ceiling than the floor because you get what you pay for in this league. I can't think of any examples of a team being 15% or more below the cap ceiling that have gone on to the postseason.
I don't see any reason to spend more than maybe around 65m in salary next year. UFA is barren as hell this year. Resign Maata for like 3-3.5, and sign a winger maybe if they have history of scoring 20 goals and that's about it. It would be much better to save the cap space for taking on dumps for picks in the 24 and 25 drafts then spend it on bums for the most part.

This is already done.

Sign Riley Piercey to an ELC. Let him play with Lombardi in GR!

Monahan is not long for the ice. I like the idea of Domi and Compher though to replace Erne and Sundquist.

Stop signing soft players and get some bigger bodies on the team.

Younger kids need some more protection.

This team is currently one of the softest teams in the league. Only Chiarot and Seider are bigger bodied players who are willing to throw their weight and knuckles around.

Gudas is having an “off” season. He intrigues me the most to fill the void. Would also knock Lindstrom/Hagg out of the line up too which alone is addition by subtraction…

Domi? Nyquist? Monahan?! Gross.

This isn’t 2019 dude. Those guys suck now. Do you want this team to get better or not? Because those guys don’t make the team better.

I'm in the "tougher/meaner" crowd. In my ideal world next season's 3rd and 4th lines will have Sundqvist, Erne, and Zadina swapped out for physical, irritating, intimidating players.

No more Drew Miller/Riley Sheahan cupcakes on the bottom lines, please.

That’s why I want Barbashev, Killorn and Woods.

Noel Accari would be a great add. Physical, Right shot center that is winning 54% of his faceoffs. He'd be a real useful 3rd/4th liner. Freddy Gaudreau could be an alternate option here.

Domi? Nyquist? Monahan?! Gross.

I wouldn't mind a reunion with Gus. On a points/game basis he'd be our 4th most productive player. This team needs some offence. Killorn would probably be a better fit but you need back up options.

Ras Larkin Raymond
Berggren Copp Perron
Killorn/Nyquist Veleno Kasper
Fabbri Accari Zadina/Kubalik

No to Nyquist. I don't care what his PPG is, his whining to the refs at every offside, icing, and penalty against was embarrassing, and he's soft as charmin.

I'd be as thrilled to see Nyquist back as I was for Jason Willaims 2.0.

Why would anyone say no to Domi? How many forwards do we have that are better than Domi?

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and Nyquist is far from the perfect addition but it is worth noting that the UFA market is extremely thin, especially for players that can add some offence.

7 pending UFAs have scored more than 40 points and 2 of those guys are 37 year olds that will be retired or staying in Boston. So functionally 5 pending UFAs have scored more than 40 points. A few others will definitely get there but it is not a good looking Free agent class.
