Everyone is entitled to their opinion and Nyquist is far from the perfect addition but it is worth noting that the UFA market is extremely thin, especially for players that can add some offence.

7 pending UFAs have scored more than 40 points and 2 of those guys are 37 year olds that will be retired or staying in Boston. So functionally 5 pending UFAs have scored more than 40 points. A few others will definitely get there but it is not a good looking Free agent class.

Understood and I'm fine with that. I'm of the opinion that Nyquist's softness/whining would more than offset whatever offense he helps with. He's not the type of player I think helps build a winner.

To be fair, at 33, he wouldn't be a long term piece. I see hem as a Kubalik/Perron type of replacement. A guy that can be play on the 3rd line but can be plugged into the top 6/PP after Perron is traded away at the 2024 TDL

The answer to that is to just not sign any UFA forwards.

Barbashev was such an under the radar trade this year, had 60 pts last year and now has 5 pts in 5 games with the Knights playing 19-20 mins a game. I'd be thrilled if the Wings signed him
I am located in St Louis, so I get to see him play fairly often. I'd take Barbashev on this team instantly.

Sign RD Mayfield/Severson to replace Hronek
Sign C Domi to replace Suter
Sign Killorn & Tarasenko to replace Vrana/Bert

Tarasenko - Larkin - Raymond
Killorn - Domi - Perron
Rasmussen - Copp - Berggren
Soderblom - Veleno/Kasper - Kubalik

Walman - Seider
Edvinsson - Mayfield
Maatta - Chiarot
I love this. Ice an actual NHL team over borderline NHL/AHL crap like Oesterle, Erne, Lindstrom, Hagg, etc.

Why would anyone say no to Domi? How many forwards do we have that are better than Domi?

Domi is an empty points guy and bad team scorer AND piss poor defensively. Same as Athanasiou. He's also a hothead that puts his teams at a disadvantage at the worst times. There's a reason this dude has bounced around so much.

I don't think that is going to be Yzerman's path, nor would it be mine.

Signing guys like Kubalik, Perron, & Copp enabled the Hronek and Bertuzzi trades from a cap perspective. We could not have acquired those extra 1sts if we were a cap floor team. We need to be above the floor so we can legally trade away guys like Perron and Kubalik for additional prospects and/or picks.

Killorn will be 34 by the start of next season. Coming off 2 pretty good statistical years in a row, so I don’t think he will be interested in a short/cheap contract. I see some risk with that one, but I like the player and fit.

Domi? Nyquist? Monahan?! Gross.

This isn’t 2019 dude. Those guys suck now. Do you want this team to get better or not? Because those guys don’t make the team better.
Yet Domi & Nyquist are good enough for playoff teams. Monahan got injured but also would have been on a playoff team.

Nobody is saying they're a long term solution but on a short deal they'd certainly be an upgrade to the team depth, insulate the youngsters and would give some assets to trade deadline assets to deal.

Here's Max Domi's playoff stats. 9 points in 24 games. What a warrior.

Let's also not forget about clutch postseason performer Nyquist with...*checks*...

65 games played (more than I thought!) and...5 goals...21 points.

Yikes.

Latest specualtion is that if Winnipeg continues its downfall and misses the playoffs , both Scheifele and Dubois will be traded

I think Marchand and Bertuzzi are highly unlikely, nearing 0%, but the other two are the type of players I'd like to see, if not specifically them.
Marchand uses Detroit as his go to example for a shitty, boring city.

0% chance he comes here - he would go to essentially any other team over Detroit.

Anyone have interest if STL were interested in trading Buchnevich? Maybe the cost wouldn't be too high, adds a scoring player which we need and he is signed for 2 more years after this one at reasonable money.

Would never ever ever ever EVER want Marchand. Even if he was scoring 120 pts a season, as I can't stand him and have no respect for how he plays the game.

Very cocky demeanour despite not being that good. He is the kind of player who will get his pts in games where you lose 4-2, 5-3 and he scores one for you,. much the way AA got a lot of his pts. He also has a lot of PIMS for a guy who doesn't play physically which suggests to me he takes a lot of bad penalties.

I'd add Killorn also

I like Killorn, but he is 34 and I don't think he is taking a massive pay cut. Not sure we need another player in the Perron level and age group. I am not opposed to trading Perron though, as he to me has been a dud after the first 20-25 games, where he was great. His play since then he has been pretty invisible, and he seems to just be going through the motions most games.

F*** Max Domi, but also, those playoff numbers don't really mean a lot. Lots of guys have their scoring subdued the first several times they're in the playoffs. Heck, Pavel Datsyuk's first 4 playoff appearances? 42 games, 3 goals, 12 assists. (in the regular season for those years he scored 241 points in 284 games)

Domi will never be half of a Datsyuk, but he's also not doomed to never produce in the playoffs.

Lastly, f*** you for making me defend Max Domi.

f*** me? f*** you for DEFENDING Max Domi! Sometimes a guy's playoff numbers are bad because they're bad playoff players. That's Domi. Empty points guy. The guy actually has a higher points per game in losses than in wins. And almost 1/3 of his points have come against the Pacific!

Let him play on the Arizonas and Chicagos of the world. Keep him out of a Wings uniform.
