Suter is a serviceable center. He aint gonna win you much but he can be plugged in and contribute 20-30 points on your 3rd line. Id be okay bringing him back for another year to ease some pressure for Kasper.

What about this Jake Livingstone kid out of Minnesota State. 6'3 Right shot D would be a solid add. Seems like he is coveted and is definitely an Yzerman type of Dman. Plays in all situations and put up some decent numbers this season.

Depends on which team gives him the most bonus money as all should be promising an NHL roster spot.

I have a feeling Kasper may get a year in Grand Rapids or a good chunk of the year anyways. Think Suter is fine at 2.5ish for another year, anything more or long term no thanks. O'Reilly would be nice but I think he is in win now mode in his career and grew up a Leaf fan.

That's an interesting one. I haven't had a chance to see him play but I'm going to start digging up some info on the guy. Are there any rumors on if he's looking to sign elsewhere now?

I haven't seen anything specific but it sounds like he is ready to pro. Id think we'd be able to offer him a roster spot which should at least put us in the mix for his rights.

It is interesting on predictions where UFA;s will end up in 2023. Some predicting Ryan O'Reilly will end up in Detroit,
I don’t mind this at all if the price tag makes sense. Good veteran guy who can add extra leadership in the locker room. Also fills the void of 2C.

He’s looked real good in Toronto since he’s been moved from STL, that’s before his injury of course…

Suter and Kasper > ROR
Larkin
ROR
Kasper
Suter

Provided Kasper can hold a 3rd line C spot right off the hop, that's some good centre depth. Which is a big area of need on this team. Doubtful Kasper can hold down a top 6 C position in a teenage rookie season barring a Seider-like development curve, and Suter won't ever be up to it. I like O'Reilly on a deal for 3 years or less. And he comes free as well, the only cost is cap hit. So all assets are still available to plug another hole on the roster whether via draft or trade.

I think once the upswing happens it's going to be a lot quicker than many might expect. Add in 2-3 big names through FA or trade and suddenly this is a playoff team. Then the Edvinssons and Kaspers reach their developmental peaks and now suddenly they're a contender. I guess what I'm saying is this team hasn't even begun to peak.

My opinion of ROR is roughly equal to the Wings' opinion of Vrana. I want him nowhere near our young players.

That and you've skipped Copp who is also > ROR.

Copp makes a better winger than centre. And if Kasper isn't ready, plug him into that 3C spot. He's definitely not a better centre than ROR either way.

Is there something I'm not aware of with him that makes you want him nowhere near the youngsters?

How many teams has this consummate paragon of virtuous competitiveness completely quit on so far in his career? 3 and counting...

eh, RoR is better than Copp but he is likely to also be way more expensive, and that's cap I am not sure I would be thrilled investing in a player of RoR's age. He's not going to put us over the top into contention, his contract will probably keep him from being a trade asset unless we either eat a chunk or he prices himself out of his market and he has to take a short term deal somewhere.

I think we're still in the roll the dice stage where we should take some chances on guys who should be buy low candidates. A guy like Puljujarvi. At center...take a flier on Sean Monahan. He's only 28, he was having a good year, he's a natural center, and recent injury issues should knock his price tag down. Get him for a couple of years, if he works out, great, if not...it's just a two year investment.

It's going to be an interesting summer, for all the bellyaching about O'Reilly, Suter, Domi and any other suboptimal UFA we will see an active summer from Yzerman.

On paper this team needs a top 6 LW, Top 6 Center, a 2nd pair RHD and 1B/Backup goalie. Yzerman needs to spend 9 million to hit the cap floor and should actually be aiming to be about 5-6 Million above the floor to create in season flexibility.

That would mean Yzerman should be targeting approximately 15 million in new AAVs coming into Detroit

We'll either see a somewhat significant trade this summer or another flurry of signings on July 1st. It will interesting to see who Yzerman targets.

Sorry if this is the wrong thread, but would the Wings have interest in D. Toews from Colorado at the draft? He has 1 year left at $4.1 and is a top pairing defenseman who will likely be looking for something around what Weegar got for his next contract.

We need righties not lefties. But he’s in the gud to realgud territory. I don’t think he’s in the realgud territory in Detroit though.

Graves, Severson and Parayko are veteran-ish RD I’m more interested in.
