I think before Yzerman decides to sign a defenceman Chiarot should be moved to 3rd pair and see if Lindstrom, Oesterle or Hagg can get something going with him.
Walman and Oesterle played well together and were both +14 .

So the Larkin extension leaves yzerman 25 million To improve this team. Of course he’ll need to extend/replace Bert, Suter and a couple depth pieces but overall he still has a ton of flexibility to upgrade this roster.

The downside is the free agent class doesn’t offer much baring a guy like Pasta (or to a lesser extent, Kane) becoming available.

Despite the cap space it’s hard to see an “upgrade” coming to Detroit

Detroit to DC
Hammering the table for Bunting as a guy I think can do the sort of job that Bertuzzi does next to Larkin and Raymond.

It’s not a great class to be honest.

Might have been mentioned idk: David Pastrnak off the market... Gonna be a lame signing season this summer. Never was going to happen but at least was fun to speculate.

I know he’s a tweener, but I wouldn’t mind Miles Wood if we’re moving on from Erne and Sunny.

Yeah, he strikes me as a more expensive Hronek at best.
He won’t be more expensive than Hronek’s next contract. Klingberg has been rough this year and the market wasn’t fond of him last year either. I’ll be shocked if he gets $6M or more next year, and he likely won’t get term either. Assuming Hronek hits 50 points this year, and has a similar year next, he will be a $6M+ player with term. Weegar contract at least.

I wouldn’t be entirely opposed to Klingberg, but only if the org has him firmly in a bottom-pairing role as a PP specialist and the deal is no longer than 2 years.

Myers has another year at $6M. Hard pass.
That was the general idea, trade for a guy with one year remaining on his deal since there ain't much in the upcoming UFA crop. We are not going to be up against the cap so salary shouldn't be an issue and if you like you can trade him the following season before the trade deadline.

Was looking at RFAs, do we ask WPG to talk to PLD? I know he told WPG he was interested in term with them. Is he a Habs or bust guy?

I fully understand Yzerman's desire for Horvat now. This team has big problems with big skilled centers, Horvat could match up with the Thompsons and Tkachuks of our division.

Sucks we can't get him as a UFA now.

Where does this come from?

Those other 3 aren't coming back so what does it matter if they finish ok? I would cry if any of them are back here next year. I doubt Lindstrom will even be qualified.

PLD is a definite do not want.

Nedelkovic most likely gone , yzerman going to get other goaltender, could be just Cossa. Edvinsson going to be with Red Wings , so don't see any new on Defense .

I think they need 2 RHD. Justin Holl, Damon Severson, Trevor van Riemsdyk and Connor Clifton all have various degrees of interesting statistical profiles and two of them could be useful depending on contract length and cost. Mark Pysyk was signed by Detroit last year but missed all season, so he could be brought back as well depending on his recovery.

Walman-Seider
Maatta- Holl/Severson
Edvinsson-van Riemsdyk/Clifton/Pysyk

Chiarot is traded or bought out.

For forwards, I could see signing two to play in the top 9, but it all depends on cost. Tatar and Bunting could be interesting depending on length and cost. Killorn could be a Perron-type signing. I think Evan Rodrigues is intriguing, as well, and I was hoping they would have signed him last year and he's had a good year for Colorado. I'm thinking the Wings will re-sign Suter since they did not trade him away at the deadline and he would have had pretty decent value considering how good he is on the PK.

I think they'll probably only want to add $15 million to $20 million this offseason on multi-year deals either via FA or trades because they'll have Seider, Raymond, Rasmussen and Berggren all up as RFA's after the 23-24 season. As of now, they have about $50 million in cap space for the 24-25 season, but that can start going away quickly, plus you'll want some money to spend on UFA's next offseason as well. I think you'd want $15 million available for next offseason just in case one of the big fishes enters UFA.
