Interesting how smith, Perrault and Leonard aren’t getting close to the same hype that the 2019 US kids got, despite all having some dominant point totals

I would be pleasantly pleased if we can leave this draft with Reinbacher and Honzek
I’d be good with that.

Wood at 27 & Heidt at 28? His list is very bad
After watching the WHL behind the scenes draft series, I started thinking about Yager with our pick and Heidt with Ottawas (assuming both teams win too many games). Both I see both as C/W hybrids. One as a sniper and the other a playmaker. Two BFFs who have a lot to like in their games. I’m not hoping for it. But it would be kinda cool. Even if I don’t personally rank them so highly.

Hey, I wouldn't complain about two good ol' Sasky boys suiting up for the Yotes. We breed them different up here! Yager seems like a good kid based on that video also. Seems like he has good character.

Man I'd be very happy with two players in that 6-16 range
I’m trying to make a ranking and it’s really impossible.

1. Bedard
2. Fantilli
3. Michkov
4. Benson
5. Carlsson
6. Smith
7. Reinbacher
8. Barlow
9. Honzek
10. Yager
11. Moore
12. Ritchie
13. Leonard
14. Dvorsky
15. Wood
16. Dragicevic
17. Sale
18. Heidt
19. Danielson
20. Stramel

Between 9-19 I may end up completely scrambling that order entirely in the next few weeks.

I just don't see Barlow having top 10 upside...too many guys behind him have higher ceilings than Barlow. I like him, just not in the top 10.
Middle ceiling range is Edmonton Hyman, while middle floor is Toronto Hyman? Haha. :)

He’s above average at all things but seems to be very intelligent on the ice, has a shot that is a difference maker, and has all the hallmarks of being a character contributor.

I had Cutter Gauthier 5th or 6th overall in the last draft. Barlow is pretty much a winger version of that, right? More or less?

That’s 17 kids in those five classes. Barlow would rank 2nd among them in goals.

On average, those 17 profile as a 5th overall pick (5.47th overall - lol), who had 57gp and 34g.

What does that mean? Well nothing. Because it’s just goal scoring. But among top 10 picks in the NHL draft, he’s one of the most prolific goal scorers in recent history.

I think he definitely does fit the typical profile of a Top 10 pick. Exceeds it really. Given he doesn’t have mobility or size or character or nationality concerns and his goal scoring is so much higher than typical. He grades out on these VERY narrow parameters as more like a Top 5 pick in an average top five (at least recently).

and if we were just looking at stats, I'd agree w/you...but he doesn't have a great shot, not a plus stick-handler, not a plus-skater, not a plus passer...

The one thing is is that he seems to always be at the right place at the right time, so again, when he starts to play with the big boys, not sure his offense is going to translate. Which is why he's still inside my top 15, just not in the top 10.

I think he’s become a plus-skater and a plus-stick handler. It’s extremely hard to protect the puck and go inside, to the net, and get a shot off mid-stride, with a guy on you. And he does it a lot. That’s coming with progress to his feet and his puck handling and his overall strength.

I also believe his shot is improve quite a bit. His catch and release, the way it’s coming off of his stick and how he’s added a mid-stride wrister. He was all about hanging out in and ripping one timers. That and mop up. But he’s really bringing some deceptive shot selections to the table these days. And he’s deadly as the bumper on the PP, too. Handling in a hurry, turning and firing.

There was a lot of Hoffman in there. But there’s a lot more Horvat, now.

And I’m talking offense only. He’s also very good defensively, great compete, and kills penalties well. Not like a Hoffman, at all.

Another factor is that he’s doing it on a minus team with a below league average offense, little depth, and two 5’10 linemates without NHL futures (one undrafted and the other a late round pick). Owen Sound ain’t Winnipeg.

My point isn’t that you should have him ranked 8th like I do. I’m not saying he’s a perfect player or that I would argue to much if you told me you had him 13th or whatever.

My point is that he’s a pretty standard issue 5-10th overall pick in almost any draft. That is honestly the only simple little point I was trying to make with my 3,000 word manifesto, here. Haha. :)
