Still stuck in Forum 40
Still doesn't make sense.
I think he was referring from 1 championship team to another with the same franchise, but with a different core. More of a history lesson (such as Avs and Blues) than a true rebuild from scratch... I rather go by the time line of a 5 year plan that BA originally put out.

Show me the data.
I can do a more detailed example later, but look at Chicago, Washington, St Louis, Tampa Bay, Pittsburgh, Las Angeles, and Boston. None of those teams took 3-5 years from the start of their rebuild to winning a cup, the fastest was 8 years. All have won 1 or more cups in the Cap Era, our current Era.

So, two teams each winning a championship every 5.5-7 yrs.?

Chicago drafted Toews in 06 and Kane in 07, won the cup in 2010, 2013 and 2015. Pittsburgh drafted Crosby in 05, Malkin in 04 and won the cup 2009. This is foolish anyway because you can't say the rebuild takes how ever long until you win a cup. A rebuild should be 3-5 yrs. and then tweak for another 1-2 yrs. Even after these 5-7 yrs. there will be tweaking for a number of reasons, but you run with the majority of that team for the next number of years hoping to be in the playoffs for a number of years, and pray you will be so lucky to win the SC. Now, if BA means 11-14 yrs. between rebuilds then I understand.

Heavy disagree here. I have Carlsson 2nd over Fantilli right now. And only behind Bedard because Bedard is well, Bedard. I'm a huge Fantilli fan but he has some red flags (mostly IQ related) and I'd much rather go with Carlsson. Many will say that he doesn't have as much upside, or that his floor is higher but his ceiling is lower, but honestly I couldn't disagree more. He's going to be an elite two way, selke level center in the league. His game is simple and refined and should work more than fine in the NHL. As he puts on weight and strength he could turn into a Jagr esque skater, the only thing I think he needs to work on is his shot but even then it's not bad and he's more of a playmaker I think anyways. Lots of questions about Bedard and Fantilli, but Carlsson has none. Yeah, his floor is high, but so is his ceiling. His hockey IQ is off the charts, his vision and passing is great, his skating is amazing.

I'd love Bedard because he has the highest potential and highest chance to reach that potential, but Carlsson has a higher shot at reaching his potential than Fantilli does, I think. Not that I wouldn't be happy with any of those 3.

5. Everyone else
Better update this to a Top 10 list. It would be interesting to see your original top 10 list in this post alongside a Top 10 list you update the beginning of each month to see how it changes. We could then take our place in the standings the start of each month +/- 2 draft spots to see which 5 players on your list we'd be selecting from pending the lottery results. Currently we're picking 4-8 since we've played less games than Philly.

Please and Thank You.

That's a joke post from before this season (or close to the start at least) but if you look through the thread you'll see plenty of rankings, tierlists, whatever that have been updated. After this WJC they'll probably be a lot more, I know I plan to put one out as well after this is done.

You have picked the 2 teams that have managed to go from bottom to top in the quickest time and they took 6 or 7 years. How can this not show you where the 11 to 14 comes from? Pitt drafted Fluery 1st overall in 03 as well.

Not every rebuild results in a SC. If that was the case it's taking TO half a century and still counting.

There are 32 teams. In an optimally competitive league, each team would only win once every 32 years. This logic would dictate if your only criteria for success was winning the cup, them most teams are failures most of the time. I would love to see the Coyotes win the cup, but that is not the only gauge of a successful rebuild to me.

16 teams make the playoffs. That works out to making the playoffs only half the time. If we came out of the rebuild and made the playoffs 7 or 8 years in a row, and were in serious contention for the cup, i.e. making the final 4 two or three times, I would consider that a successful rebuild. Winning the cup is just a bonus and very difficult to do. Have I set my expectations too low? Am I the true definition of a Coyote fan LOL?

I just keep seeing people debating anywhere from 3-14 years from start of teardown to next cup but that seems like an unrealistic criteria to me just looking at the number of teams in the league.

Haha. This list was sarcastic. I have an illogical love for Yager. And Livanavage is a guy I wanted to see taken last draft.

Fantilli plays with fire. Carlsson is a little sleepy. That’s what tips the scales for me. Urgency and pace.

@Vinny Bombatz I like your tiers. I moved Michkov, Smith, Sale and Dragicevic up. I dropped some of your guys out of the "Coyotes Tier", not because I know better, just because I'm not yet convinced they belong that high.

Very Special

I love the big rig. Not sure he’s got the ceiling of Geekie but I think his floor is a lot higher. Stramel has a fantastic floor, imo.
Hoping it's hardwood, can't stand tile flooring for the most part.

Plenty of players are like that in junior, I don't think it means much. Carlsson isn't a floater, he goes hard to the middle and is in the right place at the right time, he isn't afraid of going to the net. Neither is Fantilli.
