The trick is that I give so many opinions about everything all the time, so that nobody can ever keep them straight. Then, whenever anything happens, I can just say “told ya so” and how can anyone ever argue? Too many posts to sift through.
You hit the nail on the head.

They probably wouldn't have signed Bjugstad if Hayton did his job last year. Hayton will probably end up a poor man's DVO. I thought for sure Hayton would get at least 40pts. this year. At least he is doing better than Stepan.

Lol you will never not give Stepan a little bit of hell when you can.

Hayton's still very young. Maybe he becomes a 40 point guy when he is 24 in two more seasons. That's fine by me in the end.

At this point with our picks and prospects if Hayton becomes a solid 3C I'm happy. If he eventually can get to a Backlund or Dvo level even better. Got bigger prospects and picks to worry about panning out now haha.
He’ll practically be a veteran when Cooley arrives and literally will be a vet when Geekie does. Nice to have a young, middling center to take tough matchups away from the younger, better centers we’re breaking in.

A solid 3C with the 5OA pick makes you happy? Makes me pissed off.

Do you want to track down Chayka and fire him again? Nobody responsible for that pick is working for the team. You can’t get the pick back. Might as well enjoy whatever utility you can get from it.
No I will not. I know Hayton has more than what he is showing, I just don't understand why we don't get more from him. Maybe I'm wrong.

This has always been a missing piece of the puzzle for our roster development. Strome had nobody in front of him. Dvorak had nobody in front of him. Now Hayton. Even going back to Turris we didn't have great center depth until we acquired the very much aging Vermette. Seems like many of our GM's hoped the prospect would come out of camp ready to take a top 6 center spot before they were 21. Tons of proper development wrecked because of this.

Yeah there's no way to get around that taking Hayton 5OA isn't looking good, and very disappointing considering some of the players who were available after him (dodged the Zadina bullet at least). At this point all I can do is hope for the best. He is still young and missed lots of playing time.

Still could be worse. Could have won a lotto, moved up 10 spots and took Nolan Patrick over Makar or Pettersson. NYR fans can't be thrilled about Kakko and Laf relative to draft position right now.

What matters is that we get the picks from 2021 and on right.

So you're saying we should trade for Reinhart? For Hayton's development?

Hayton is an old regime pick. I do not think BA and co care that much about Hayton. They're just hoping he can pan out as a bottom 6 energy guy.

I'm not blaming Hayton, he is what he is at this point, I'm blaming management. You can't keep on picking that high and not get much in return. That can kill ya. Hayton, Kakko and Laf are all still young and still might surprise. Onward and upward.

I think AT really likes him. He's good in the dot, good defensively, in fact he is pretty good in most areas except the stat sheet where a 5OA pick should shine. He is not hurting the team with his play on that third or fourth line.

Hayton in the pre-season looked like what we want and expect him to be.

Hayton in the regular season has been trending the wrong way. Slipping further into a funk.

I really want to see
Ritchie - Hayton - Maccelli
and maybe then he'll start getting comfortable using his shot and holding on to the puck again.

I know we want the top 3 guys, and no other franchise deserves it more than us quite frankly. Not even close, as in a million miles apart on deserving franchise to win the top spot. Anyway, this year looks to be the best year if we happen to screw ourselves (which is the Coyote way) and finish out of the top 3.

Best crop of forwards to come out in a very long time.

Bedard
Fantilli
Carlsson
Michkov
Benson
Yager
Sale
Barlow
Dvorsky
Smith
Wood
Ritchie

Other noteables:
Ethan Gauthier, Nate Danielson, Riley Heidt, Andrew Cristall, Koehn Ziemmer

I suspect we'll get 1 of the last 4 on your list, but still hoping for lottery win.

If they count how many balls from teams that never won. We would by a great amount, have the most balls.

BA should have hung on to RT for another two seasons to start the rebuild. It seems like we're too well coached. If there was ever a season to tank for a good draft pick it's this one, and we're discussing who to take in the 5-10 range. Now with Schmaltz and Chychrun back, where will we actually end up drafting? 10-15? Lol

If we held onto RT we'd be talking about what we'll need to attach to trade Keller next summer while he's on a 40 point pace

We can trade our way out of this mess.

Vejmelka can be dealt in case of any real emergencies, like another win streak.
