This thread is truly insane. It’s FIVE years old and look how many names on the first page alone were correctly called as future first round candidates. They’ve listed at least 10-15 thirteen year olds as future top prospects.

Yeah, that does suck. But for my family, it’s okay. My boys play house league only. And I’ve got no interest in letting them play on the travel teams. Hockey won’t dominate our lives like that. It’s a fun hobby. And house league is like beer league for kids. It’s healthy and wholesome and we all have a great time with it. And there’s really just no reason at all to ruin it by taking it so seriously. That's super impressive.
Something else that comes to mind is that I think that highlights how inaccessible the game is becoming. Getting the right coaching and development programs at an early age is super important, but man, that's such an early age you need to put a crapton of money into your kids sports. Feels like it's only going to get worse.

Shhhhh….no! Haha.Wait.You may have no interest, but if your kid has the love and talent for the game he will have many pulling his coat strings to play for a travel team.
That's how the kids and families in Canada have been doing it for decades. It's getting crazy expensive, but you meet many great families. It can get political, but that's all part of it, unfortunately.Shhhhh….no! Haha.
I’ve got a buddy who played for Little Caesar’s who gave me a bit of a different perspective on it. That while it did dominate a season of the lives of the family, it also created some of their fondest memories and bonding time. He helped me wrap my mind around the concept of the time investment, at least. That's how the kids and families in Canada have been doing it for decades. As someone who grew up in similar footsteps as your friend I wholeheartedly agree. By the time I got to 15 I was sponsored and money wasn’t an issue anymore. I’m sure a lot of them are in similar situations depending on talent level but It’s not a sport most can afford that’s for sure. A lot of that can be experienced on a smaller scale. Quit at 17 because of burnout. Was tired of missing out on hanging with friend and dances etc. Everyone telling me to get better all the time and my body felt like shit despite my age. It’s a grind for sure and a lot of teammates I would say were forced into it because of talent or their parents wishes.I’ve got a buddy who played for Little Caesar’s who gave me a bit of a different perspective on it. To your point, nobody is going to help me understand the $$$ aspect, though. Haha.
$700 twice a year for each boy for House League is enough for me. Haha. Especially with outgrowing equipment and extra coaching sessions for cash.As someone who grew up in similar footsteps as your friend I wholeheartedly agree. Give them the TJ Oshie treatment and get them into roller hockey as well. It will cut cost and they still get to play hockey.$700 twice a year for each boy for House League is enough for me. Haha. Especially with outgrowing equipment and extra coaching sessions for cash.

Dvo, have you seen this kid?
Red flag
Getting paid KHL money to do squats? Nice!Michkov hasn't played because his coach refuses to play him or send him back down. So he's sitting. Has said that he doesn't think he's physically mature enough and that his legs aren't thick enough and he should have the legs of MSL or Jagr. Says he's learned all he can at the Jr level but isn't ready for mens league.
Which is uh...something.
He absolutely could, the coach just doesn't want to send him down. He is supposedly playing tonight for the first time in (I think?) 8 games.Getting paid KHL money to do squats? Nice!
J/K - can’t he go to the VHL? Or nah?
He played in the VHL today (first game back), no points. Prospect Ilya Fedotov scored in the K against Brandon Gormley’s team Sochi. Brandon’s head coach is ex-Coyote Andrei Nazarov.Getting paid KHL money to do squats? Nice!

I get where you're coming from but he might be a Bedard level player. All this does is make me want our team to stay the hell away from Michkov no matter what.
